Well, I'm gonna be on TV again. Same bat-time, same bat-channel.
The last shoot I did, there were three skits I was in. Last week only the first one aired. So this week (er, tomorrow) the other two are going to air. Tune in if you have access to Japanese TV.
In one of the skits I don't actually have lines. ...I was supposed to have lines, but I didn't get to say them. Everyone sorta got carried away, and it wasn't a skit where you could go back and re-do it. Oh well. Gives me a chance to work on my Barry White baritone voice for the next time. If there is a next time.
Oh, and if you are reading this, thanks for finding your way back here!

Looks like you`r a regular now :D
:)
What are those lines they have you saying in the two skits in this video?
http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMTI1NDA2MDcy.html
I can't quite understand enough Japanese to figure out what you're saying, but I guess I get the joke that it's a very... useful... phrase.
P.S. Gaijinsmash.net is working again.
Glad to hear you are making your way up on TV!
Anyway, I thought I'd let you know that it automatically redirects to this website when you type www.gaijinsmash.net so its all good :)
Someone's got to keep up with this show online and post links whenever possible.
We'll see if there's any progress with Az's baritone training ^^
I whole heartedly wish you good luck, Ive got the same problem.
"Daiso de utteru deshou!"
=D
Record this too!
'You should be able to buy it on Daiso'? What's Daiso?
Az, you can become the David Hasselhoff of the music industry. Hasselhoff has a huge music career in Europe but absolutely nothing in the US.
ah, I am finally living in Japan, and I definitely want to check this out! life really does have weird twists...
remember, just have fun! if you can get rid of fame, while keeping the money, you will do fine :)
thanks for the blog post - i've always enjoyed reading your blog.
No, Az was in two skits. In the first one they have him say:
いったん持ち帰りますわ
Whatever that means...
Can someone on the outpost nine message board approve of my account? I've waited for like a week now. The member accounts name is Canuk.
SMASH THEM !!!! On live !
Baritone is mid range between bass and tenor. If I'm not mistaken, Barry White was renowned for his low range. Making him a bass. If you want a manly voice, aim for bass. Though, I saw your clip and your voice sounded fine to me. Not too high, not too low.
you're living the japanophile dream that so many of us try to reach for (you're a famous gaijin!). we salute you, sir.
I think いったん持ち帰りますわ means something like "I will take it back(back home?) with me."
Another classic Az performance tonight.
They even gave you a focus shot as you tried to pour beer on that reporter. You should have aimed for the chest more.
It's funny this time you were the token black guy who hit's homeruns for a championship team.
Just saw you in tonight's episode. I'm tempted to believe that was actual beer in that skit.
Too bad there were no lines, but I think I heard a couple of your "Yeah"s and "Whoo"s.
Someone needs to start approving of new members for the outpost nine message board. Having to wait for approval to have accounts activated is just stupid and stunts the growth of the message board. Admins need to start approving of accounts on the forum.
Canuk
Dude, you're like a bigger and more dignified Chris Rock! Too bad I won't be going to Japan anymore.
Not sure how to email directly without posting a comment via this boards comments, but I can explain how to either convert your recordings to something YouTube will accept, or explain how to upload it to a large file service like rapidshare, if you'd like.
Wow, you got to work with Itao!
Odd not seeing him with Downtown.
hey az, have you ever considered twitter? it'll be so much easier to follow your moves (being obsessed stalkers as we are) and have some sort of update on your life while we wait for new blogs? :) just a suggestion.
hope everything's ok with you though

Apparently Daiso is the Japanese equivalent of a dollar store: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daiso
does anyone have a link to the new skit?
...I know who you're talking about, but that wasn't Itao. Different guy. They do look a little alike though.
Ittan mochikaerimasu means "I'll return it presently." Add the "wa" on the end, and they're playing a naughty joke on male foreigners, because it makes them sound effeminate. Have a large black man saying that, and you can just see the yucks, right? (The general purpose sentence ending particle would be yo, or, for a guy trying to sound extra assertive, zo.)
But I did think it was funny when they ended the skit by having Az walk off with the girl. "I'll return her presently." Heh. ^^
Actually, "You should be able to sell that in the Daisō." I don't understand enough Japanese to be able to tell how that is funny in the skit, though. The finale, where Az hits the drum, daiko style, and exclaims, "You should be able to sell that in the Daisō!" is particularly mystifying. Oh well. Yoku dekimashita!
FINALLY! It's been awhile since I've read any new postings here. I was beginning to go through withdrawl...
Congrats on the gigs! Hopefully, they will keep giving you spots and maybe give you something a little more permanent. If you do come across a link to your performance, please post it!
So has Az's skits been posted on youtube?
Nope. Mochikaeru means to take it home(back) with you. When you order take out, you tell them mochikaeri desu.
Also, the "wa" is Kansai-ben for "yo" and is used by males. Az lives in Kansai.
Nope, it means "They sell that(those) at Daiso(the dollar store)."
Also, it's a "taiko".
Don't forget to get your rss feed up again.
I plan on uploading this to YouTube with time-corrected sound and added subtitles (via YouTube Annotations, probably). Would someone be kind enough to translate the Japanese in Az's sketch (not the phrase he constantly repeats, but rather the entire sketch)? My Nihongo is chou warui. d:
Az, I'll get you a copy of the video uploaded when it's done. E-mail me.
>
Cool! I didn't know that. I suppose that's part of the reason why Kansai Japanese dialect is supposed to sound funny to folks who're not from there?
Hey, Azh. Just wanted to let you know that several embedded pics on your blogs aren't, well, embedded anymore. I hope it gets addressed as you spruce up this blog.
@ Ihmhi
Sorry dude, cant help you out there. But its cool your going to do it. A few of us cant watch the video so we're waiting on another source. Thanks alot man.
I have a feeling this stint is gonna grow on you and you're gonna be a regular very soon. Hey it's a good opportunity though and maybe you can break the celebrity stereotype by staying normal (or as normal as you can be after years of living in Japan).
Hey, I saw this article about the McRib coming back and I thought of you, because... I THINK you're the blogger I read who really liked it.
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/booster_shots/2009/11/the-mcrib-is-almost-back-now-lets-read-the-fine-print.html
If not, I'm really sorry for spamming your blog.
Could this be Az's twitter? Anyone know for sure??
http://twitter.com/search/users?q=gaijinsmash&category=people&source=users
Looks like an account squatter to me...
OMG u're gonna be famous how cool is that!! Whats the craziest fame experience you've been through so far?!! OMG
Don't have a Twitter, don't plan on ever having one.
I am a little confused. You help translate products on a web-shopping sites yes? How did you manage to get a tv skit? I don't recall you ever doing one when I read your gaijin smash blogs.
sorry to correct you. I am from europe and Hasselhoff had!!! had!!!! a career in europe. but that is long gone, thank god.
"いったん持ち帰りますわ"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLQI1c2XFOg
first hit on google! WTG!
Az, can you add an RSS or Atom feed to this blog please?
b0mb3r, you obviously haven't been following very closely or else you'd know Az left the "ran by a prick shopping network".
Another FYI, For a while Az's kept us a few months behind on his life. Now we're current ... finally.
I wonder what the management of Samurai Chuto are gonna think when they see all this foreign web hits.
http://www.mbs.jp/samurai/
Write them guys and let them know we want more Az :)
@b0mb3r
LOL! He quit that job ages ago!! I can tell you haven't been reading all of the entries, lol! Anyways Az it will be interesting to see if you get any calls back from those guys to do more skits.
