Default Uesugi Clan - Modern Era

Anybody know of the history of this name and the modern family's current standing? I recently met someone who claims the name and tradition here in Canada. Just wondering what a great story one can make.

The name is from a great samurai family in the history of Shingen Takeda vs Kenshin Uesugi.

Thanks

From my dictionary, the Daijirin ~

UESUGI (uhesugi) 上杉
A family name. From the Fujiwara Kanju Temple line. The majority of them took their name from Tanba Province's Uesugi Village, which they controlled. After marrying into the Ashikaga family, from the Kamakura Period onwards they enjoyed good fortune in eastern Japan, ascending to the position of Lord of the Eastern Regions under the Shogun's authority in the military government. The family divided into the Yamauchi and Ougigayatsu branches, but afterwards Uesugi Norimasa transferred the family name to one Nagao Kagetora from Echigo Province. Under the 'Grand Adopted Child', the family became centred in Aidzu in the northern province of Mutsu. After the Battle of Sekigahara, the family moved to Yonezawa in present-day southern Yamagata Prefecture.

I remember when I was about 7 or 8 I got the game Nobunaga's Ambition for Nintendo from my parents. I thought "wtf is this?" (or however you think when you're 8) but it was actually pretty fun. In that game I believe the Uesugi clan started somewhere in Central to Eastern Honshu and they were pretty badass. Not quite Tokugawa or Oda, but close.
