Hey all. It's pretty funny. I got a phone call from this random person who keeps calling me(long story) yesterday warning me about the typhoon. He only speaks in Japanese so it makes talking on the telephone somewhat hard. He warned me about the approaching typhoon. I said

"台風が来る?!そうですか。知らなかった。どもうありがとう。"
"A typhoon is coming? Oh, I didn't know, thank you."

He then told me to watch the news. I can't do that at the moment. I wish I knew how to make my tv work, but even if I could get it to work, the room the tv's in is not really accessible at the moment.

Today almost all my classes at work were canceled except my worst-behaved class. However, I was very lucky because only one of the kids showed up and he was completely manageable on his own.

The fun really was riding home during the typhoon. hehe. I rode my bike to work(just 15 mins) when it was just raining in the morning. I came home at night during the hard rain and wind. My bike drifted quite a bit. It was very fun but very dangerous. And I can't hang my wet clothes out to dry right now : (. I hope this typhoon doesn't stay for long. I can't find very much info about it in English. I only found this article in the asahi about it that's in Japanese- http://www.asahi.com/national/update/0906/TKY200709060388.html

I've never experienced a hurricane before, despite visiting florida multiple times during hurricane season, and here I am riding my bike in the middle of a typhoon :p. Good times. I wonder if it will be the same weather tomorrow.

Here (http://www.jma.go.jp/en/typh/) is the page that has up to date informations about typhoons in the region.
It looks as if it's moved on by tomorrow (http://www.jma.go.jp/en/typh/070924l.html). No warrany that there isn't any rain in its wake though :-)

Here (http://weather.yahoo.co.jp/weather/), you can click where you live and will get weather-information for the next few days.

Oh lovely! Thank you for the links : ). *bookmarked them*. I guess it'll be sunny by the weekend, but rainy tomorrow in my area.

At some point my son and I were watching TV, and they were showing scenes in Tokyo filmed during and after previous typhoons. People slogging through the streets up to their chests in water. Bicycles under the surface.

I was listening to NHK for practice and they talked about it pretty much during the whole segment. Although, all I could pick up was about 台風! and かんと, it sounded like they were making huge deal out of it.

Why don't the japanese name their Typhoons, like the rest of the world does with Hurricanes. Numbers are so boring. I'm going to call this one Typhoon Taro. Its got a kind of ring to it....

Pfft, here we had Two Type-1 Hurricanes go through the country from the Atlantic and the Pacific (Felix and Henriette), so I'm not really amazed.

It does have a name. Fitow (http://tsr.mssl.ucl.ac.uk/tracker/dynamic/main.html) in this case.

This website is also awesome (http://www.gdacs.org/reports.asp?eventType=TC&ID=FITOW-07&system=asgard&alertlevel=Green&glide_no=&location=).

That is an awesome website. Much more aesthetically pleasing than JMA. Thanks, PLF.

Like naming their schools after famous people instead of just "Inaka High School #2"?

And that hurricane just went through my former city. I hope it saw some action.

I'm currently in the eye of it. Pretty strange to think that for 360 degrees around me, there are 80-100 mph winds or however fast they're going now. It's perfectly still here, though the wind was pretty cool a couple hours ago. I'm all jazzed about experiencing my first tropical storm. (^_^)

Judging by the speed of the winds, sounds like a great opportunity to go fly a kite.

Yeah, the second half of it was disappointing...I assume, since I was asleep at the time and the storm didn't wake me up even once.
