What are some fine examples of hypocrisy you've witnessed or experienced.
Here's one from Reuters.
"NEW DELHI (Reuters) - An Israeli couple was fined 1,000 rupees after an Indian court found them guilty of obscenity for kissing during their marriage ceremony in a Hindu pilgrim town, newspapers reported Wednesday.
The couple had decided to have a traditional Hindu marriage while visiting Pushkar town earlier this month in the temple-studded desert state of Rajasthan, The Times of India reported.
But they infuriated the priest as they started to kiss and embrace while he was chanting vedic hymns.
The priest, along with other Hindu holy men, complained to police, who filed charges against the couple. The court in Pushkar gave its verdict Tuesday.
The Asian Age newspaper said Hindu priests were outraged.
"We will not tolerate any cultural pollution of this sort," Ladoo Ram Sharma, president of an organization of Hindu priests in Pushkar, was quoted as saying.
Pushkar has a famous temple dedicated to Brahma -- the Hindu god of creation -- and is popular with foreign tourists who come for its desert ambience, camel safaris and annual camel fair."

Perhaps I'm missing the fine print, but this seems more "assinine" than "hypocritical." Care to explain?

I concur. This is more of "They were being jackasses" than "They were being hypocrites."

I'm not even clear on which ones were supposed to have been the hypocrites?

I think the hypocrisy comes from that fact that on one hand, they said they wanted a traditional Hindu marriage(which means no kissing during the ceremony), but then decided to kiss anyways. Saying they wanted a traditional marriage is, in a way, implying that they believe it's how weddings should be done, so going against it does technically make them hypocrites. Although it is a sketchy example.
My favorite example of hypocrisy of how many Native Americans view land. It belongs to nobody....until you try to take it from them. Then it's theirs, and they want it back...so it can belong to nobody again....because it would belong to them. Yeah.

I agree that you can't really claim to want something traditional and then try to incorporate non-traditional elements into the ceremony; especially when you are dealing with an orthodoxy. The couple were being hypocritical and deserve their fine because they obviously didn't understand the nature of their own requests.

I think it's mostly them not enjoying being shoved onto tiny plots of land and having their children brainwashed and customs/society utterly reemed by white people. Damn crackers.

Ah... I see. I was thinking that the other people involved were the targets.
I began thinking too hard... I even got to the point of thinking, "Maybe the hypocrisy is in the fact that it's a thread about hypocrisy, but contains none!"
<- Going a little crazy. Too much work.

Which song? National Brotherhood Week?
Oh the white folks, hate the black folks,
And the black folks, hate the white folks,
All of my folks hate all of your folks, it's an old established rule
But during naaaaational brotherhood week,
naaaaational brotherhood week,
New Yorkers love the Puerto Ricans ('cuz it's very chic),
Go on and shake the hand of, someone you can't stand,
as long as they don't let them in your school...

All the Catholics hate the Protestants,
And the Protestants hate the Catholics.
And the Hindus hate the Muslims
And everybody hates the Jews.
But during National Brotherhood Week, Natioanl Brotherhood Week
Natioanl everyone smile at one-another-hood week
Be nice to people who are inferior to you
It's only for a week so have no fear
I love that song.

hrmm... that seems kinda surprising to me...
I'm in India at the moment (cohin, or cochi, or kochi, however its spelled, since its different on every sign) It seems odd to me that it is that much of a big deal, but I guess there is a lot about this country I do not understand.
On another note, we took some Indian Navy guys onboard our ship to go fish one of their airplanes out of the water and partway through the trip one of our chief's found two of their guys in one rack together... hrmm...
We also threw away all matresses and linnens for the racks the Indian's slept in after they left. They smelled funny...
I'm rambling now... but have a few other good stories of adventures in India...

Pretty well sums it up, really. The reason they said that the land belonged to nobody was because the way the land was used was in a community property fashion. It was an example of communism actually working on a small scale, in the end.
That said, once you introduce ownership into the picture, someone has to own the land, even if it's to be shared with someone else.
