This band from Australia kinda reminds of MGMT (whom I find incredibly overrated), Empire of the Sun, and similar artists, but they do a much better job than most of their electropop indie dance rock peers because they wield a great melody. Their new album is definitely worth checking out.

Listening to Raditude, Weezer's new album, and I definitely have mixed thoughts on it.

When I first heard the clips on iTunes, I feared the worst and had no idea what they were thinking. Now, after a few listens, my impression is certainly more positive, with a few exceptions. If I had to describe it in one word I would say it's fun, more similar to Blue and Green than something like Pinkerton, but I'll just go through the main tracks.

If You're Wondering If I want You To (I Want You To)- This is the first single, and I definitely think its one of their better tracks on the album. Some think its too poppy, but I think its got the sort of characteristic Weezer quirkiness and hooks to make it a lot of fun. One of my favorites on the album.

I'm Your Daddy- First time I heard this I hated it, cause it was a live version of poor quality. Hearing the album version, it's a lot crunchier, and when the chorus kicks in it hits heavier. Not particularly deep (not much on this album is), but it's still just a fun song about a guy trying to impress a girl.

The Girl Got Hot- Another fun one about a girl that nobody cared about back in middle school but now she's, well, hot. Again, not that deep, but its fun. There just really isn't a better word to describe most of this album.

Can't Stop Partying- I loved this song when Rivers released a version that was basically just an acoustic version, I think the album is waaaay too overproduced. The core of it is still a good song, but it doesn't sound anything like Weezer. Not even sure if there's a guitar in the whole song. It's one of those songs where the music gives the lyrics a bit of a different meaning, a little darker. Also, Lil Wayne shows up and sings one of the verses. It's not bad, but it is just not at all like Weezer and feels out of place. I heard a live version where they did it with just the band and distorted crunchy guitars and it sounded way better, kind of wish they just went with that version, but it's not a bad song.

Put Me Back Together- Rivers cowrote this one with the guy from All-American Rejects and you can definitely see the influence, but it's a really solid song. It starts off pretty simple, but it really builds up as it goes on and the band kicks in. You can also hear the emotion in his voice in this song to a much greater extent than I've heard from most of Weezer's recent work.

Tripping Down the Freeway - IMO this is the best track on the album. A good one to play loud, fun as hell to play and sing, and it stylistically I think it's the song that most resembles what Weezer's known for.

Love is the Answer- Possibly one of the worst songs they've ever done. Apparently they wrote it for Sugar Ray (they still make music?), but good lord is it uninspired. They lyrics are insanely generic, but then they have all sorts of Indian string instruments and stuff playing, some chick singing in Hindi, again none of the crunchy guitars that Weezer used to be all about. It sounds like a bad Disney song, and overall it's just a total mess.

Let It All Hang Out- A solid song, not bad but not great. Not much to say about it, has a fun attitude to it and a good chorus. Basically a party song, but it's not bad.

In The Mall- Pretty monotonous and too grungy and repetitive. Not a fan.

I Don't Want to Let You Go- This was another one that used to be on Rivers' solo album. It's simple, but pretty and extremely relatable. I think it's just as good as the acoustic version, not a bad closer.

And that's that. I'm not sure how many Weezer fans we have around these parts, but those are my thoughts on it. In closing, the title of the album seems incredibly fitting after finally hearing the whole album.

Mostly revisiting music from my library right now, so nothing particularly new for me, but I am excited about the Deluxe Edition of one of my two favorite albums being released in November (Pinkerton). Stumbled upon this unreleased track that's gonna be on it, and I'm loving it so far. Definitely not going to be for everyone, but Pinkerton never was. Got that same kind of bluntly honest feel that I loved about the album in the first place, so it's good to hear even a few new tracks from that period. This one has a really nice melodic feel to it with just enough frustrated screaming and fuzzy guitars.

I-Exist - Findings

An Indianapolis band we've played with a few times. They got a slot on the Saw 3D soundtrack and the only unsigned band to do so. They are a bunch of cool guys, so it's good they get this kind of exposure.

recently i've been listening to a lot of krautrock, droney psych, ambient drone, and noise music. stuff like Les Rallizes Denudes, Cluster, Harmonia, Stars of the Lid, Popul Vuh, etc. Plus a lot of My Bloody Valentine and Beach Boys for some reason. The only new stuff i've listened to much recently is the new Radiohead and Hype Williams. Just now i was listening to an r'n'b club mix by Brenmar cause i might go see him dj later this week.

Been listening to a lot of Tokyo Jihen recently. Mainly 大人(Adult), my personal favorite of theirs, but also a couple of their newer singles I stumbled across. Definitely one of my favorite bands, I would say atm they are my favorite active Japanese band.

Here's the newer ones I was talking about, seems like the alternative English titles of the songs are "The Reverberation" and "Fly Me to Heaven" according to itunes, even if that's not exactly how they translate. Good stuff though.

Also been listening to the new Company of Thieves album Running from a Gamble. Loving it so far, with Never Come Back probably being my favorite. Such an amazing buildup throughout. Check it out streaming for free here (http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/spinner#/12), at least for today anyway

Don't quite know what to think of this song, but I like it.

I still need to listen to the new Fleet Foxes, their first one was great.

Recently i've been listening to lots of Felt (check them out if you like 80s/90s indie pop). also Caetano Veloso and other brazilian artists are getting more play as summer's arriving.
