Do people here in OP9 use AIM or MSN more often?

MSN... and sometimes, Yahoo, because I have a really good friend who only uses it.

Both. Although I just recently got an MSN account (used only once) and I'm logged onto AIM quite often.

iChat does both - I use it for Gtalk mostly. Have to use FIRE to see my yahoo peeps though.

MSN. I have an AIM, but it's not for you.

I use AIM most of the time next to google.talks, then yahoo, and them MSN. But I use the program Trillian which allows you to connect to any IM service at one.

I'm not one to use any online messengers. But when the occasion warrants it, I use AIM.

pidgin ftw. but MSN for file transfers when pidgin prefers to be stupid about such things. er. pidgin is another multiple protocol messenger, but I mainly use it for AIM.

MSN, not as annoying as AIM.

My Miranda can handle all except of Skype.
And I can use it for the IRC!

Msn

MNJetter

MSN, always. Though technically now it's Windows Live messenger, and not MSN.

Jay
07-20-2007, 11:15 AM
Why?

MNJetter
07-20-2007, 11:16 AM
Cuz that's what it said when I downloaded the newest version. :P

Though I still call it MSN, anyway. Shorter to say than either "Windows Live" or "WL" :D

Jay
07-20-2007, 11:19 AM
"WL"

...by ONE SYLLABLE, Alyson. :P For a linguist, you're lazy. :D

MNJetter
07-20-2007, 11:21 AM
Yes. Yes I am.

And don't call me Alyson. Only my grandma calls me that. :P

Jay
07-20-2007, 11:22 AM
And don't call me Alyson.

Or what?

MNJetter
07-20-2007, 11:30 AM
Or I'll start calling you Grandma. :D

So, everyone else......Why don't you use the messenger(s) that you don't use? Are your friends just not on it?

Personally, I use MSN instead of AIM because I like the way the screenname system works better, and the general way the messenger system works. And it seems to be more secure. I've had the occassional screenname stolen on AIM. But I do wish that MSN would let you change to italics or bold in the middle of the post, instead of having the entire post look exactly the same.

MSN has plugins for that, but you're right, it IS annoying it's not standard. That's *why* you HAVE to use emphasis. ;)

To me, AIM just looks like a cobbled-together high-school project, it looks very unclean.

I don't really like IM clients on the whole.

Not really.

I got pissed at AIM when it started hosting ads that made noise.

Also, I just call it Windows Messenger, screw the live part.

I use AIM, because having to close a dozen or more little "add to your chat list" every time I open the MSN annoys the heck out of me.

Really, really.

Yahoo, MSN and AIM, in that order.

I use MSN, but only because it was already on my computer when I got it and I happen to have a hotmail account.

SoulPlay
07-20-2007, 02:42 PM
I don't think you even need a hotmail email for msn, you can just go to passport.net and register your email address for use with everything msn...

I use MSN because of the emotes. My life is exciting.

MSN, Jabber (gTalk), AIM.
My client connects to all of them and I don't know which one I'm using; I have meta-contacts so if a friend has MSN and AIM, they both count as one profile and it'l use whichever is online at the time.

I use Jabber because it's free and open source; I can run my own server and I can talk to people using google talk.
I use MSN because frankly most people use it, and the majority of my contacts are on it.
I use AIM because a fair few people use it, same with MSN.

Individual differences between clients and capabilities are moot to me; all three networks operate almost exactly the same from my point of view.

Here's a stupid question. Do you have to pay for MSN?

Duke Luke of Juke

Nope. Oh, not for MSN Messenger.

Is Windows Live the same as MSN messenger?

Jay
07-21-2007, 03:14 AM
Live is just the new incarnation of MSN. Say Dodge bring out the Caliber, and then a new model Caliber comes along in 2 years.

Here's a stupid question. Do you have to pay for MSN?

You're right, that is a stupid question. http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

Either you have a very unimaginative email address, or you're way more popular than me. :P

I get one of those maybe once every couple of months, and nearly always from people I know.

I use trillian since it connects me to Aim / Yahoo / MSN. If I had to vote based on all of them being seperate...

AIM would be my favorite of the 3 (pre-6.0) since it was fairly simple.

Yahoo feels kinda bloated and crappy, but it gets the job done.

MSN is super bloated and crappy. I don't like the way the creepy smiles look or how it sounds in general. The very very rare times I load up msn on my computer makes me kinda mentally gag.

MNJetter
07-21-2007, 06:14 AM
Heh.....I use MSN exclusively, and I haven't actually used the creepy smilies regularly in a long time. You can use your own custom smilies, and I use a set that I downloaded from some free downloads website, and made one set of my own. And you can swipe custom emotes from your friends. I have no idea if you can do that on other systems, but I don't know if I could operate without it....Trillian's the one that annoys me sometimes. I can't use my custom emotes with my brother or ex-boyfriend because they can't see them on Trillian, even if I'm on MSN. I get so used to using them with other people that I feel like I can't express myself normally with them. :P

I use Adium--hurray for IM consolidators. I'm generally signed on to MSN, AIM, Yahoo and GoogleTalk, but the primary people I talk to online use MSN.

...Of course, I don't usually pay attention to which one I'm using, which is why I like the consolidator so much. Far fewer windows, and only one contact list.

I concur. I turn smilies off. It's so annoying (I don't care about them on forums, just IM's...weird, I know). People think they are doing a favor by having custom ones and telling me about them. They never make it through. Muahahaa.

But if I didn't have a hotmail address, I doubt the MSN client from my computer would have gotten my e-mail address, and filled out the sign in form, so that I can sign in easily.

In other words, I care so little about MSN that I would not have exerted the slight effort of registering an e-mail address to use on it. But since all I have to do is right-click on the icon and select "Sign in," I use it, because, what the hell, it's there.

I use Jabber .. to connect to three different Jabber servers and an ICQ transport, so I can talk to less-enlightened people who still insist on communicating over a proprietary protocol.... (thankfully, none of them use
Mirabilis ICQ. Mere thoughts of ad-supported clients forever flashing advertisments for things I'll never pay for makes me sick)...

Back to work..
