View Full Version : Gaijin Smash T-Shirt Design Poll

UPDATE: The poll seems pretty spread so I just decided to make all of them. They will all be available. The only thing keeping you from your shirt is Az approving of the use of 'outpostnine.com' on the shirt. As soon as he approves you can get your shirt!

I remade the hammer shirt & it looks evil!

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Ok here are some designs for the front of the shirt. The back is going to have 'outpostnine.com' written across the shoulders. Here they are not super high quality nor big enough, but they are on my HD & at the maximum DPI that the printing machines can do.

One is just a concept (has a war hammer on it), but I'm almost done remaking it.

Also, the sizing is messed up here, but they are all the same size in reality.

I really like that hammer one. I'd totally buy it, but perhaps you should offer more colours. (I know it's only a concept design, but other colours like black, perhaps blue, and like...I dunno, pink for the girly-girls that like this site, or something.)

I'd buy one if Tojo and/or Az were featured.

I'm still partial to my Hadoken punch against Tojo idea.

I'd guess I'd pick #2 if those are the only options though.

Take the fist design, remove the english, and move the bottom katakana line down some. You've got a winner.

I don't think that would fly in Japan.

That's certainly true, I'm stateside so I didn't think about marketability in Japan (still love to see the art for it though). I'll be likely be buying a fist one when it comes available.

I would so get the hammer one if the english and japanese was seperated.

I would go with the fist only because it shows a North American like style with handling these kancho situations and such.

^ That's cool. Now make it at 300 DPI (do not just resize, you have to make it from scartch at 300 DPI) and 10in x 10in. make sure to save it as .psd

Also, if that is clip art (read: copyrighted) it cannot be used. You have to draw it yourself.

.zero
08-15-2005, 04:54 AM
i drew it myself of course, i know well enough lol
i vectorized everything (im going into graphic arts, so its good practice for me anyway) so i can just resize without losing quality anyway. I knew that if i had to put it into tshirt production, id hafta resize sooner or later :D
edit: can i get the gaijin smash in jwriting, cuz i wanna try it out on the same shirt design

Henjin

Probably too late, but I made one myself:
http://secret.agent.home.comcast.net/images/remote/gaijinsmash.jpg

Went for a graphic style like those construction signs. It says something like "Beware of the Gaijin Smash!"

I'm pretty sure the guy is royalty free. It's a photo of a construction sign, and was given away for free from a source image site.

Those are really cool!

I can add more designs and stuff. just e-mail me your designs and I'll put them up.

Also, be sure the Japanese is correct. It would suck if someone read them and made fun of us for wearing it. :(

qualifications:

PNG
JPG - slightly "distorts" the image to compress the file size.
PSD
TIFF
BMP
EPS - note:Vector form is not acceptable.

10 in. x 10 in.
300 DPI

Be aware that any white in your image will show as the color of the fabric.

When creating graphics, try to reduce as much white space around the image as you can. Creating extra white space around the image will prevent the image to print its maximum size.

Also, for extra Japanophile points, make the text entirely japanese.

Mine is about 10'square @ 200DPI... I might have to vectorize the guy to get it at 300. But I don't want to go through that trouble if no one wants it... If anyone wants the design I made, say so. I'm open to suggestions as well. I was thinking of making it look more like a sign...

you just edit the shirts so they have a back & then move it up to the shoulders (as in above the middle of the back. I didn't really type in clearly the first time).

Also. It would be cool if 'gaijin smash' was in Japanese.

Henjin
08-15-2005, 08:45 PM
外人 - Gaijin (Kanji)
がいじん - Gaijin (Hiragana)
ガイジン - Gaijin (Katakana)
すまっしゅ - Smash (Hiragana)
スマッシュ - Smash (Katakana)

I wouldn't use anything other than the kanji 'gaijin' and the katakana 'smash,' but there's everything.

Alright, I've made a store and set all of the prices to the lowest so I won't get any profit. I wasn't sure if Az said we could put the URL on the shrits so I didn't. I know the images aren't tha good but that's cuz all I have is Paint and Flash so I had to draw them in flash and paste them into paint. I tried to make the one with Az stepping on the Japanese guy bigger but it was all pixilated (its in the other thread and if you could make it bigger while staying smooth I'd really appreciate it). I ended up redoing it but I don't think it looks as good.

That's what I was wondering too, all those interested in making designs should "get together" with Az and discuss a few different models and stuff. If he has any kind of interest in having a store and such... It is still his intellectual property!!

But the sale of T-Shirts could improve hosting services, marketing, web design and a lot more, I dont think there is place for getting rich, but if Az could make a few bucks of his editorials and give his "fans" something to chew on, why not!!! He is getting quite a few followers...

Stuff like this is assinine.

I suggest holding off until someone either gets valid legal permission directly from Az to use his website/catch phrases, in which case, only the person who was given permission can legally make the shirts, or until he turns the idea down, in which case, nobody can legally the the shirts

Although, judging from what he told Kass, Meneer, and myself, nobody will be getting permission.

Intellectual property laws, get used to them.

I wasn't worried about the people making designs. I have no problem with that at all. I was talking about the people talking about making stores(and in some cases actually making them) and talking about selling shirts when Az hasn't approved it yet, as though they were all in charge. Especially when it's probably not going to happen anyways.

I'm not the one who needs to relax in this thread. The people contemplating making their own merchandise are the ones that need to step back.

...Okay.

I'm pleased and somewhat surprised that people actually want to make and buy OP9 merchandise. That's kind of cool.

But at the moment I have to ask you all to please hold on it. There are some potential copyright/legality issues that have to be dealt with. I can't say much about it now, but there are certain things that may not be available for use at all, especially "Gaijin Smash".

Once I understand everything better, and if possible, give me your designs and I will set something up on the site. And please do feel free to continue coming up with designs. But as for something to actually be made and sold, please hold off on that at the moment. Thanks.

One of my friends came up with it, actually.

We were talking about something, I completely forgot the context, but at one point he said something like "Then I'll just get up on the tables and be like 'Gaijin Smash!'", complete with arm-gesture movements and everything. We thought it was hilarious (I play fighting games, so picking up on the "Hulk Smash!" reference was especially funny for me), and we'd use Gaijin Smash from time to time in our conversations.

The thing about it now is...ah, I really can't explain. I'm not quite sure of how it works myself at this point. But there could possibly be some copyright issues involved. I'll find out hopefully soon.

Well, you piqued my interest, if that counts for anything. Heh.

Thanks for explaining... When you say 'Hulk smash,' it makes more sense... I think everyone here's been using it like a noun or verb, but it's really a sentence fragment... Interesting. I'm spending way too much time analyzing this.

Yeah, you need genuine Japanese fonts, not English ones w/ kana replacing the letters.
