If you've seen a video game-related story on network television, chances are it wasn't exactly peachy. Despite rising revenue that makes film executives green with envy, the video game industry is often portrayed as conventional entertainment's raucous, hyperactive kid brother. The list of gaming's negative side-effects is seemingly inexhaustible: games are addictive, games ruin relationships, games make kids fat, and of course, games train mass murderers. Pretty scary stuff for a pastime who's most enduring mascot is a jovial plumber.

To point out the factual inaccuracies of such grim claims is a tempting proposition, but rather than simply fan the fires of the argument, we'd like to present a new one altogether.

I'll cut if off at this point. If you wanna know what the supposed good effects of video games are, go through the rest of the article yourselves...

I will definitely agree with the fixing up your eyesight.
I used to play Battlefield 2142 on a maximum HD resolution, and my eyesight started to improve and i wouldnt have to start squinting at stuff.

No wonder its gone worse now that im playing guild wars ><

Old news. :P There have been reports on the effect of gaming on hand-eye coordination, reaction times, and eyesight since the early 90's. :3

Well that stuff was old, but the parts about losing weight, being good for your eyesight, and good for ADD kids is new. The ADD one sounds wrong, though. I really think video games do the opposite. A kid with ADD can spend hours playing a video game and will do that rather than their homework or sit still in class.

Damn right

Who do you play with?

I'm just starting to really get into Guilty Gear.I'm playing with Johnny, who is not a reccomended starter character, but I feel that my experience with other fighting games will make up for that.

GOOD for eyesight? Weird I would have thought the opposite. Feels like I have to strain my eyes when I play games. And people tend to play games for hours, would think that would be bad for the eyes. Ah well. I want undeniable medical proof :].

fighting games especially when you kick them up to the hardest difficulty it will rape you till your ass bleeds like niagra but if you become better you can make it so that your ass only bleeds like a ketchup bottle when theres a bit left.

The boss characters on Guilty Gear rape me at any level.

Street Fighter 2 Super Turbo had problems.Any time you have to struggle and use advanced tactics to make it pass the first guy,you have problems, and this is on the default difficulty setting mind you.

I play 3rd Strike so much now that it gives me no problems on the highest difficulty.Only thing different is the enemy's stamina is cranked up,and they are stronger.

Strap yourself into a chair, clockwork orange style, and force feed yourself unending amounts of videogaming. :O You'll have some sort of medical issue, one way or another.

That was the first time I've ever referenced it. Are you experiencing a Groundhog Day-esque phenomenon, blackfist?

might be because for some reason it felt like this whole day you kept bringing up clockwork orange.

I might believe the ADHD one, but I definitly disagree with the improvement of eyesight, because when I started to game, my eyesight started to heavily deteriorate where at this point I am down to -4.00 on both eyes, and 6 years ago I didn't need glasses. And I can't say my eyes are good at locating small details because I simply can't see them without my glasses, and when I can, I still don't notice the things that are right infront of me.

I doubt that was the fault of the game. If your eyesight has deteriorated that much, it's got to be just a genetic eye condition.

But I agree with you that gaming doesn't make your eyes better, either. Don't have anything to back it up with, but when I was growing up, I was told all sorts of old wives' tales about what would make your eyesight worse or better. The video game thing doesn't seem any more likely to help your eyes than bathing them in various food products.

I swear my years of gaming and computer use has increased and helped improved my short range vision, but its been making my long range vision fall too shit.

Any muscle, including the ones in your irises, will grow stronger and better able to perform if exercised more intensely than normal. So in that sense, video games would probably at least contributing to your eyesight. But it's not something unique to video games.

It's not unique, but it certainly is one hell of an eye workout compared to most other things.

I use ABA (I think as my main, used her in the last tournament I went to anyway), Order-sol (second?) and Jam (third)

I can use most of the cast casually, those three are my competitive characters. I'm getting a feeling of deja vu.

ABA is something else.Your health could all be gone in like 3 seconds

Video games did something good for me. My brother and I won $25 at a Command a Conquer tournament a couple weeks ago. :)
