View Full Version : All sorts of updates and such...
Hi everyone! I've missed y'all but work and real life have conspired to virtually eliminate my play time.
The good news is that I've gotten a major promotion at work. It completely changes my career path, puts me in a much more important role on the project, triples the critical-path work I do and comes with a five-figure-before-the-decimal pay raise. I'm really psyched about this since I had topped out in my other position. I couldn't get promoted any higher because I was the top of the heap and I'd capped out on salary for this area. People in my job didn't make more than what I was making. Now, I've got room to move up again.
I'm coming in to this job at a crucial point in our project. We're starting system testing for the payroll system we're about to launch. There aren't enough hours in the day and not enough days in the week right now and if ruaidhri is one of our retirees, he would probably be most pleased if we didn't bugger this deployment up.
The bad news is I just can't keep up with OP9 anymore. I rarely get to log in and when I do, I can't read everything I've missed. I've let PMs go unanswered for too long because I just couldn't get here to log in. That isn't fair to Azrael or you guys, so I'm leaving the OP9 staff so that he can put someone in place who has the time to do the job.
I'm not leaving the board, though I don't foresee a point in the near future when I have more time than I do now, so I will continue to be a rare visitor. :(
I've had a blast on staff and posting here and hopefully, I'll manage to work in more regular time to visit at some point.
I miss everyone, but in particular I'd like to thank Azrael for his writings and creating this place, Citizen and Meener for being great guys to work with and ruaidhri for all the great debates. They were fun and educational. :)
Take care all and hopefully I'll be back more often at some point.
*hugs*

Good to hear from you Kass and I'm glad things are going well on the job!
I knew I was going to leave a bunch of people out that I wanted to say someting to, so here's another I thought of. Pierrot le Fou, you crack me up and make people think! Keep it up. :)

Nice to hear you're doing well. The average assumption when someone disappears from a forum is they just got bored of the joint. :P

Congratulations Kass. It is a shame that OP9 has to lose you to the chains of mammon but from your description of the promotion it looks to me like you have made the right choice.
Good Luck in your endeavours and I hope you find the time to visit more often than you have recently. Little tip, good management = delegating the right tasks to the right people (and thus finding you can spend your own time 'researching' on the internet)..
..not that I would ever do that myself of course. :liar:

For shame..
Congrats on the promotion though =D

:watson: I asked someone, I forgot who, if they'd seen you post sometime recently cuz I was wondering where you were. ANYWAY. Have fun, and good luck with your new job/career thingamabob. Hopefully more success comes your way in the future.

Grats, on your promotion and thank you for you the dedication you have put into these forums.

...Wow, the Kass shows signs of femininity. And here I thought it... sorry, SHE, I have to remember that now... was just an Autobot programmed to respond in a long and informative way to our posts. The mind boggles! :boggled:
:D
On a serious note, I'm happy to see you're doing well in your life, Kass. I miss throwing ideas and theories around with you and I hope we get to earbash eachother again on a regular basis sometime.
Best wishes. ;)

Sorry to be insincere but who going to be the new moderators because I remember when we had 3 mods we were discussing getting a new one because the mods have odd online time and occasionally spam will stay up for a while and threads that deserve locking stay up longer than most would like.
On a good note Happy Job advancement
That's being discussed atm. When Az decides, he'll let you know.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the surprisingly quick reply. Once good luck to you on the new job.
I am actually trying to pay attention to this thread and I just got done breaking things in systest, so I have a few minutes to breathe.

Congratulations on the promotion, and good luck moving up through its ranks, as well.

I've been missing you.
I'm happy you've been recognized with a meaningful promotion and the dollars to back it up. I will miss reading your frequent comments on issues and will look forward to your occasional contribution. I've always valued your opinion.
Don't forget to take time out of your busy day for your daughter. She's far more important than OP9.
Congratulations! You did an excellent job as moderator and are a person with whom I've always enjoyed discussing issues especially when we didn't agree.

Why am I not surprised these events occured? ;)

It's what I get paid to do! :p Find out what users really need (as opposed to want), tell programmers what the system needs to do, let them figure out how, test it, break it, make them fix it, test it again.
...please tell me you'll use your position to humiliate lusers... and, well, everyone within earshot. :)

Moving' on up.
It'll still be nice for you to pop in every once in a while, kind of like what Felix does when his police work isn't totally heaping on him (which is pretty much never, but that's cool).
Congratulations on the raise and career upgrade; that's always something to be very proud of, and like-wise, I'll miss your thorough insights and zero-tolerance for litigious ignorance. It'll be harder to keep the pool clean, but I guess we'll all try and do our part in your absence.

I've definitely missed you too. :) Discussions with you have always been one of my favorite parts of the BBS. I wish I had more spare time, but I don't. :( I'm peeking in in between running test scripts.
I always make time for my daughter. That's why my time at home is so limited. She turns 14 on Monday. She's not my baby anymore. LOL *Note to self: boys are sniffing around. Buy gun and shovel.*

My pal trained his l'il girl to be a black belt. It seemed to work. They won't let me have Satomi in until she's 3.
