I'm sick as hell (probably due to the germ-incubating kids at my job) and I lucked out in getting today and tomorrow off from work, but I work Wednesday and calling out sick is not an option if I wish to keep my job, especially since I'm gunning for a promotion.

So any tips on getting me close to full function by Wednesday?

Goddamn, everything hurts.:knockout:

- Less internet, lots of sleep
- Drink a lot of fluids; try to drink some juice for the vitamins
- Take vitamins

(I also have friends who swear that drinking hot water with lemon juice gets rid of colds, but I haven't tried this "remedy" myself)

Have you ever tried that "Airborne" stuff? It's advertised as something to take in order to prevent colds, but it helps you get over them too. It's like alka seltzer - just drop a tablet into a glass of water. It doesn't taste too bad, either.

there's really nothing work that fast...

I used to swear by nyquil. But after a while my body seems to have gotten used to nyquil's effects and it doesn't work as well on me anymore. If you don't usually use nyquil, maybe give it a try?

otherwise really just lots of liquid and lots of bed rest. That is still the best and proven way to get rid of a cold fast. Perhaps look for a daytime symptom suppressent for Wednesday so you can still function at work without hacking out a lung at co-workers.

If it's the flu, you can get Tamiflu from your doctor, and symptoms go away in 3-4 days. You have to get it within 48 hrs to have any appreciable effect, though.

Many people swear on zinc for heavy colds, because it seems to suppress the symptoms, such as coughs and runny nose.

Most doctors recommend large doses of vitamins C & E, up to 1000mg each, when a cold comes on. It seems to kickstart the immune system.

Lots of Japanese drink tamagozake. Take a small glass of warm sake, and crack a raw egg into it. Stir it up and choke it down!

Whatever you do, listen to your body, and don't push too hard.

I was going to recommend zinc and vitamin C, but japanat beat me to it.

One thing that works well on sore joints and congestion is warm humidity. And I don't mean like Tokyo in July kind of warm humidity. I mean like going to a sauna or something. Especially the Japanese kind where you can go in and just lay down while the heat and moisture does its stuff.
Though if you have a fever, I wouldn't recommend something quite as hot as a real sauna. You can usually get the relaxing effect on your joints if you go into your shower, turn up the hot water all the way, and aim it somewhere where it won't actually touch you. (that's how I "iron" my clothes too :innocent:)

Also, warm salt water helps clear out sinus ways and soathes sore throats.

get a neti pot or someting like it or just drip the water down your nose.

Peppermint, lemon, tea, and ginger..
