This car was bought new when I was 11. When I was 14, my dad took me to the church parking lot and taught me how to drive this car. After I got my driver's license, my dad bought a new car and this car became mine.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b87/elliejayk/caddylack2.jpg
Then, in August, my parents decided it was time for me to have a new car, one that got better gas mileage than my 10 year old gas guzzler. So, I got a 2005 Subaru Forrester in August. In October, I wrecked it. This is what it looked like after I wrecked it. It wasn't totalled, but I told my parents I never ever would drive that car again.
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b87/elliejayk/100506_104711-1.jpg
Luckily, my old car was still around. My parents live in a pretty fancy neighborhood, and they have gotten snide remarks from the neighbors about how our driveway looks like a "used car lot," because my parents have so many cars (and most of them are fairly new, but my Caddilac is 10 years old and my little sister's car is about that old, too). But anyway, my beloved old Caddilac had not been sold, so I am back to driving my baby. This car definitely has its problems, as it is now 12 years old, but it's a pretty nice ride, the interior is in pristine condition, the exterior is pretty nice except for a small ding in the rear passenger door, and a large dent in the front bumper. I'll prolly be driving this car for another few years, but I love her!

This is me. 2005 Sentra.
My parents bought it for me after I provided the $1,000 down payment and agreed to pay the insurance.
Within the first week of driving it I promptly got in two wrecks. One during a left turn (my fault, but I believe she didn't have her lights on) and one where I tried to make a difficult parking spot, but ended up taking someone's mirror off. In the end I paid over $1,000 for all repairs--Luckily, we have a mechanic next door!
Now I keep wondering if I should trade it up for the 2006 Sentra..

It looks a lot like this, but with much less shine to it and its actually a year older (1988). Damn thing is older than I am, but it's such a great vehicle.

We have...
1. '89 Honda Civic (Red) -- supposedly my car, but I'm not allowed to drive it.
2. '93 Ford Ranger (Purple) -- my dad's truck. It also has a red light, lol.
3. '02 Honda Passport (Black & Tan) -- my mother's SUV. It's ninety degree days and no A/C. Bah.
4. '92 Dodge Caravan (Greyish Blue) -- my grandmother's van. It needs a new radiator.
5. '04 Kia Optima (Green) -- my aunt's car and probably the best of the lot.
6. Early 90s Chevy S-10 (White) -- my grandmother's old truck. It up and died some time ago and we just parked it in the shed and use it for storage.
7. Late 80s/early 90s Oldsmobile Something (Maroonish Red) -- another old car of ours that died. We're trying to get it hauled off.

Roof rack, bike carry, navi and reverse camera with DVD/MD/MP3 slot and rear screen, keyless locks, glascoat and some nice speakers. The guy was working under a quota, was dumb enough to tell me that, and I ended up getting 30% off sticker, plus most of the above was either heavily discounted or gratis.
Now, if I'd wanted the sports edition, they wouldn't have given an inch. Those things are just too popular, and people are dumb enough to pay sticker on them.

Current vehicle: 1987 4-Runner. Modified for off-roading. Beat up, white, and indestructible. The throwout bearing and clutch are noisier than the engine - I love it because it's a perfect yuppie repeller(tm). No sane guy with a new Mercedes or Porsche will even *drive* within 20 feet of it. Lol. I love taking it to fancy places like Beverly hills - the locals and police look for a way to tow it/ticket it, but it's legal and the tags are up to date ;)
Now, to be fair, my last vehicle before this was a 1967 Mercedes 230S. Emerald green and looked every bit the show car inside and out. I loved it to death but the engine died - and it would have cost more than the car was worth to get it replaced.(yes, LOADS of money - like 4-5K)

Okay, here's the 91' 350 Camaro. Yeh, it needs a paint job and maybe cooler rims, since under the hood is good for me. The Neon doesn't need pics. Look out the window to view any Neon with damage and you got my other car. Before these two, I had a 91 Honda CRX, but some ditzy blond pulled in front of me and I punched her back end resulting in a totalled vehicle (her car was a Buick, so you can imagine).

Oh, trust me, I'd love to drive it, but I can't. It's a stickshift, and no one's gotten around to teaching me how to drive an automatic, let alone a stickshift... Yes, I'm twenty-years-old and do not have my license. I realize that's rather pathetic when I live in the country and you have to driver everywhere.
Also, my dad won't let me. He says it won't pass inspection any more. *shrugs* He won't let me sell it or drive it, and when I try to get him to check out cars in the classifieds, he gets mad at me. I need a car, so I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I can't call these places on my own, because I have no clue what to say or ask about, and when I ask him, again, he gets mad for some reason and doesn't answer me.

Crazyace86 I feel your pain there. Not having a car does suck, especially if you need one to get to work every day. Learning stick isn't really all that hard. A quick search yielded a pretty good website teaching you the finer points of manual trans. Learn to drive manual transmission (http://www.whtc.com/Shared/Auto/tutorials/learnstick.html)
My Dad (Ruaidhri) taught me how to drive with a 2000 VW Jetta TDI. It certainly was a fun car to drive, and to a teenager, knowing how to drive a manual- something only a handful of kids my age in my class could handle was pretty cool. With a little patience I got pretty good at it, and I was able to shift smoother than automatic.
My advice to you would be to try to find out what the car needs to pass emissions and work to get the money to have it fixed.

Don't feel too bad, I work for GM and we had some tester 'Vettes come through the other day. I bet an intern from Purdue, who cannot drive stick to save his life, two cases of beer and a few other things that my '92 Saturn SL2 could smoke him while he was driving a 2008 Z06 Corvette. I neglected to mention all the Corvettes were sticks. I not only smoked him on the 1/4 mile straightaway of the track I kept going and lapped him. The boss black flagged us before he completely trashed the transmission on the car. This kid a whole new level of bad on the stick, but I have worse stories. Don't even get me started on the hybrid trucks who drain the cranking battery.
He was to wear Michigan gear for the next month of his internship and write a 500 word essay on why Michigan is superior to Purdue. Plus I got another week's worth of beer.

Nice mustang, those new gt's are quick. and kudos to whoever had the Rx7/3rd or 4th gen celica.

Ha ha, a DeLorean! I would love to have one of those... Although my dream car is this little baby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_Pacer).
Or maybe this thing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Pajero), which is about the only SUV I'd ever drive.
Or this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Brat), because it's classicly offbeat, or better yet, one of its American cousins, such as this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Ranchero) or this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_El_Camino).
Or, hell, why not go for the completely quirky (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_buggy)?
I like weird cars. My mother is trying to get me an old Chevy Nova, though, so we'll see how that goes. If I do get a new car (one that I'll hopefully be allowed to learn how to drive), I'll post it.

Most cars in this thread are not "expensive" cars . You haven't seen Audis or BMWs or Mercedes or anything close to that. Those companies can be high class enough. Don't tell me a Supra, especially one of the later gens, an 07 WRX, or a Shelby Mustang isn't a "nice car"
Not everything has to be a a premium brand to preform well and still be nice. Shit, put that WRX in a drag and it'll only be a little above a second behind a brand new Corvette. Thats alot of time, sure, but not too bad for a car thats under 40,000.

Jealous of what? That you need a car to define you? Fuck an "expensive" car unless it's something that a person chooses because they love it, not because of the price. You sound ridiculous. I know many people with cars under 20k that will smoke any piece of crap, overpriced "better than a shoebox" car you have in mind.
FYI: A brand new Alphard is over 40k.

Nothing is wrong with getting a Toyota. I never said there was anything wrong with a Toyota. I just said a Toyota is not an expensive brand of car and simply pricewise, is one of the cheapest brands of car. I think Toyota makes good cars and would not fault anyone for getting one.
I didn't see an 07 WRX, did you? I posted an 03 WRX which cost $25 total new. It isn't one of the new $30k+ models, it isn't tricked out, and that isn't expensive when you look at the car industry. If you can find a cheaper car that offers even remotely close performance or features, let me know please! Vic asked how people could afford these cars making it seem like the cars were expensive, but really if you can afford any new car most of the cars on this thread would be within reach.
If you all really knew cars you'd know there are classes of car. Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Subaru, etc are all low end. Acura, Infiniti, Lincoln, etc start to move up in class, I'd say lower middle class cars. Audi, BMW, Cadillac, etc are into the Upper middle class. Then you get to Porches, etc Jags, at the beginning of the high end. There is overlap based on car model and other considerations, but in general that is how cars are classified. You don't have to buy an expensive car to get a good car though and I respect that. It is exactly what I did. That was my point and you all just completely missed it when you wanted to believe I was insulting people. I could have phrased it better, and I'm sorry for that, but people need to calm down jeez.

Actually the new Shelby isn't a very good car since all they did was tweek the engine but left everything else alone, so handling and suspension is pretty rubbish. However, the Rausch Mustang is phenomenal, they changed everything so that it all works properly. It the suspension is miles ahead of the shelby's and the handling is much much better. The engine isn't as powerful as the Shelby's but with the improved handling it will waste the shelby around the track.
The Shelby does look fantastic though, I freely admit that.
As for my car? I don't have one, I don't drive. If I did I'd love to own a 2007 Jaguar XKR or an Aston Martin DB9, but even if I could drive, they are way way way out of my reach. Perhaps I could settle for a Mercedes SLK.
That was my point and you all just completely missed it when you wanted to believe I was insulting people. I could have phrased it better, and I'm sorry for that, but people need to calm down jeez.
LOL! You should have quoted Vic or something if you were responding to him... What do you expect?
Besides, strictly speaking of prices, I actually found driving a lower end car much more enjoyable than a Mercedes ML500 and an Infiniti G35 coupe. My Honda Civic (I posted it earlier) just preforms so much better overall. I know, crazy! And I avoid the Mercedes ML500 like the plague. Hate driving that car! But you have to drive it because if it sits idle for like... three fucking days... the battery dies. It's more junky than my civic despite being very pretty looking and sounding cool when speeding up. Same goes for the Infiniti. It's sad... because it's such a sexy looking car!
I'm not saying you were ever saying expensive cars were better... just stating my opinion on those things since you like talking prices.

If you knew anything about cars, you'd know that today the concerns of the average consumer have nothing to do with over paying for power they don't need. Why do you think the Chrysler 300C did so well? Class lines are becoming more and more blurred every year. And you talk of "low end"? Please. Acura....overpriced Honda. Infiniti....overpriced Nissan. You get the picture...
But I better understand what you were responding to now. Thanks for clearing that up.

I love looking at cars.
Currently my car is a 2005 Chrysler 300C, with the HEMI engine and all the options. I love the car. It's fun to drive but it does gulp gas; it averages 14.3 mpg. Sadly, I have decided that the fun and comfort is not worth all the extra gas so I will shortly trade the 300C in on a Mini Cooper with, of course, a manual transmission and 40 mpg. They are also fun to drive.
Back when I was 16 years old I owned two cars. One was a 1953 Ford, which was a lemon. On hot days during the Summer months it had vapor locks which could only be corrected by pouring cold water over the fuel line to the carburetor.
I also had a 1957 Triumph TR3 sports car, which was my favorite all time car. That car was fun, especially for a teenager. It was so low that you could stick your hand outside the door and touch the ground. Notice that it did not have windows. You attached side curtains.
Here's a picture of a TR3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_TR3

Neat little car! I must say though, I do like to sit up while I drive. I'm not sure how people can drive while reclining as many cars have you sitting. The extra visibility for sitting up higher is really nice too.
Man, I wish mine got 40mpg. I think I'm doing fairly well at 26-27 on the highway though. My WRX does take premium though, but worked it out and that only costs ~ $200 - $250 extra a year. I figured I can do that to drive a car I really enjoy. I love the sound when the turbo spins up! =)
