Hi everyone, I would just like to share my story and ask for some feedback or ideas. About two years ago I got interested in Japanese and bought some books to start studying on my own. But I soon decided to take a full time course at university (at another university than the one I'm on my fourth year to my engineering physics masters, thankfully it's free to study at uni. here in Sweden). I managed to get a scholarship to study Japanese for one year at Tokyo Gakugei daigaku and will leave in about two weeks (Oct 2). I will stay at a dormitory with other Japanese and forreign students.
Any thoughts on what I should think of to bring or things I should make sure to do? There has been so many helpful answers about shorter trips in other threads that I thought I should ask!

to avoid the mindless repetitive comments (ahem), try taking a look at the other threads in the All Things Japan thread, there are many other threads like this.

Whoa!! Tokyo Gakugei!? I studied there during 2002-2003. I bet I know several people from your university in Sweden, too. What a weird coincidence. If you have any questions about the area, professors at the University, classes, ect., then feel free to PM me. :) Actually, I'll even be making a visit there during early October (around the 10th) to see my old friends who are grad students there.

Bring plenty of over-the-counter drugs (cold medicine, pain medicine, etc.) as they are not readily available here. Bring toiletries (shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream, toothpaste) that you are particularly attached to. Plenty of American brands but probably you'll never find any Swedish brands...
Gifts of food from sweden (sil salad? Spelling?) if you need to give any gifts to anyone. My sister used to bring this great tea with her back from Sweden (married to a Swede, went to college at Uppsala (spelling?)). They might like it here. Some berry flavor in it.
