(1) Job application time. When potential employers look for ways to distinguish between prospects, one of the first things most HR people do is google your name and look on MySpace and Facebook. They look at your picture and anything else they can get from your sites. Having your face plastered all over the internet with not-so-flattering photos or ill-mannered quotes from forums is a quick way to lose a job application.

(2) To avoid possible stalkers. If people wanted to find out information about you, most likely they could get your name, picture, and any assortment of personal id numbers you use within minutes. It's not that hard.

(3) To avoid data mining bots used for advertising. If you don't mind all the spam and online advertising, by all means advertise yourself to the world. If you find it annoying, here's the cause.

There are many more. It only takes a second of impulse thought to upload your picture and other personal information while it takes years to remove your digital fingerprint on the world.

(Of course I recognize that even natives don't always write correct language. The colloquialisms they use are pretty logical and entrenched though, rarely if ever something that is obviously grammatically wrong.)

Not to say that he still doesn't try to post them, but the beauty of the Moveable Type system is that no comment gets published before I get the chance to read it first. Anyway, whatever, annoying little bastard, nothing too bad.

A few days ago, I notice he's on Mixi. He sends me a message. Whatever, I delete it, I don't care. I randomly check Mixi today, and find that the fucktard has viewed my profile. I don't know why, but something just told me to log into my girlfriend's page and check (we both use the same computer - her login info is saved in Firefox). Sure enough, he'd sent one of his racist and ignorant messages to her.

And now I'm fucking pissed.

For those who read Gaijin Smash, you may remember there was a commenter named ViolentAJ who basically started shit in this entry here. (http://www.gaijinsmash.net/archives/akai_kutsu_diaries_sachi.phtml) I dunno what his deal is, but he claims to be a black guy married to a Japanese girl, and will NOT SHUT UP about how "Japanese people hate blacks."

It wasn't just the one entry, he started showing up in every entry with his racist shit. People got really tired of him, especially me, and I got to the point where I just stopped approving his comments. Not to say that he still doesn't try to post them, but the beauty of the Moveable Type system is that no comment gets published before I get the chance to read it first. Anyway, whatever, annoying little bastard, nothing too bad.

A few days ago, I notice he's on Mixi. He sends me a message. Whatever, I delete it, I don't care. I randomly check Mixi today, and find that the fucktard has viewed my profile. I don't know why, but something just told me to log into my girlfriend's page and check (we both use the same computer - her login info is saved in Firefox). Sure enough, he'd sent one of his racist and ignorant messages to her.

And now I'm fucking pissed.

It's one thing to annoy the shit out of me, but to harass my girlfriend? HELL FUCKING NO. I reported the message as offensive spam and deleted it, but I ask you guys, is there anything else I can do? I am really genuinely pissed off about this, and I'm not about to let this twat get away with this shit. I don't care what it takes.

Most of the Japanese women I've encountered in my short time in country look exclusively for black guys. I was eating lunch with a local lady and the question came up about what her type was and who she preferred to date. Without even skipping a beat she said black men - white men were a close second, and Japanese men a last resort if she couldn't date an American. Just the other day I spotted a Japanese girl with a "Black is Beautiful" baby-tee on. On the weekends, I never see a black dude walking alone from bars or clubs...there's always a Japanese girl somewhere in tow. With all this being said, I'm not quite sure what the heck this guy's problem is unless he's a nerdcore high school punk, which from what I've been able to read of him so far, I'm pretty sure that's what he is. Otherwise, a black man in Japan should be able to rope in a Japanese woman if all the love I'm seeing for black people where I'm living is universal across the country.

starbeach works off of ads so it really is free. However, you'll need to sign up for a sub email account from your keitai provider. You do not want to use your real keitai email address.

It's also kind of flash in the pan. You'll get a bunch of replies in the first 15 minutes and then that's all!

I used starbeach exactly once. I had to change my keitai mail address the next day due to spam. I was just kind of goofing around so I didn't actually keep it touch with any of the people. However, one of the girls was interested in meeting that very night! (I think she was curious about me being a gaijin. Apparently I don't really come across as a foreigner through mail.)

I checked my bill pretty careful and I didn't get charged for anything, so I think it was truely free. All of the response mails have ads attached to them.

It was an interesting experience. I'll probably try it again sometime and actually meet up with some of the people. It could only lead to interesting stories. :clap:
