How much would a one 1 trip to Japan cost?

Been thinking about doing some traveling to different parts of the world relatively soon. Now that I'm getting deeper into photography (Canon Digital Rebel SLR camera), I want to snap exotic locations, famous architectures, and different cultures.

For those that have visited there, how much would it cost to travel to Japan for a week including plane, food, and lodging?

I flew from Raleigh to Nagoya for around 600 dollars round trip. Got a killer deal. We stayed in hostels for 10 days, got a week long rail pass. Went to Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, Sendai, Matsushima Bay and a couple smaller places. Stayed in hostels. Whole thing cost no more than US1500. If you want to party in Tokyo it will cost more, as I found out. So I didn't party in Tokyo. Next time.
