Have you seen the poles?

The "restraining" poles. A long pole with a U shape at the end. Theoretically to be used in the event of some out of control teacher or violent intruder. I think they are hilarious. It was some months ago when they were brought in and the little training session with the police went down. I just had a thought about them as I sit here reminiscing on this final day of AET bullshit.

What are your thoughts?

Oh yeah, they have those at all my schools. They're called "sasumata" and apparently they were installed after the Osaka stabbing incident when a guy broke into the school and stabbed a few people to death.

This reminds me of the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where some sword-wielding person is shot by Indiana Jones. I'd like to hear of a situation where someone tries to use this pole and ends up getting shot at (but not hurt, I'm not wishing that on anybody). I mean, there ARE guns here, when there was a bad winter and all the bears headed to local villages, everyone and his brother had a rifle...
