Japander.com has some great exploits of Hollywood celebrities- anything with Ahnuld is hilarious to me, and that Ewan McGregor commerical pitching AEON English programs singlehandedly shattered my sister's fantasy about him.

Look up Tokyo Breakfast, it's not really a commercial- more of a TV pilot, but check it out anyway. It's quite hilarious... It's like how Tokyo will be in the future when MTV is done with it.

Maybe I can do something to upload it somewhere...

I've reviewed Tokyo Breakfast and concluded that it was staged.

Over the last weekend, I spent hours tediously encoding all of them and putting them on DVD for my Japanese club to see. The process of putting a video file on DVD isn't very long, but when you repeat it over 500 times, it just gets annoying.

My favorite of all of them is either the 4-second しょいんの本 commercial in pack 6 (shoin.avi) or the Nissin Kimchi commercial in pack 1 (Kimchi.avi). I swear I recognize the voice in the Kimchi commercial from some anime.

2 of my favorite Japanese commercials:

One is just a commercial for Coolish, with this guy running through a desert, i just found it amusing seeing as my Coolishes lasted all of like 10 minutes this summer in the city (Tokyo, etc.).

and another, i forget what it was for, but it had Shaq carrying a motorcycle over his head and saying in a terrible accent "Hai, hai!" And that was it.

That jingle may be forever burned itno the innerworkings of my mind, but you forgot the "rekuto kara" at the end. I think in the states someone should really bring back the commercial jingle, it would at least make whatever it advertised stuck in peoples heads.

I remember in Japanese class one time we watched a tape of a ton of commercials and (I don't remember that well but I'm pretty sure) one had like a bunch of pugs at a bar and this lady bent over to play pool and you could see down her shirt. The camera shot to the dogs and their ears all stood straght up. The whole class laughed at that one...

Ah yeah, I could figure 'rekuruto' out. Heh.
I still have my copy of Town Work... I liked reading all the pitches. "New staff! Everyone's starting at the same time, so no pressure!" "Very fun! Looking for bright, vibrant people!" "I've only been on the job for 10months and I'm already a store manager!"

Well that and the pictures... Nice pictures. Small, but nice.

I remember 3 distinct commercials:
1) there's a giant tree, and it says "fushigi na ki" or something. I love how that looks really peaceful. Forgot what it was advertising though.
2) the house on the ship one. The girl is sailing while fishing while doing laundry... it gets really complicated, but that's a cool lifestyle. Just drifting in the ocean...
3) the kuroneko yamato one. If your friend invited you to a party, but you can't go, what's the fastest way to inform your friend? A. by phone. B. by plane. C. by walking to your friend's house. The answer is C just because the song says so.

I'd say it's WAY better than the Japanese commercials they show in US though. I've been seeing the SAME ones for seven years now... in the SAME order...
