Az, from my experience at a campus gym in the US, there is a certain age you hit (I think they are Professors?!) where you just don't give a damn about American shyness in the private region in the locker rooms. This is still no comparison to Japan, are there younger guys there who are shy or is this born into their blood?

My friend and I also wonder how old you have to be in the US to just not give a fuck anymore. These are the guys that come to play racquetball, must be 60+ *shudders*

I dunno if I make it in Japan, especially with my redheaded shyness...

My Japanese family took me to an onsen Sunday somewhere on the Mount Aso Caldera (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Aso) - and all the while the wee wifey is hollering "Darling - you need a towel" - I ended up having my nephew scrounge up a hankerchief sized one. But damn - those obasans get to see everything.

This brings me to ask a relevant question of Az about Japanese gyms, as if I ever make it over, I will certainly have to find one to suit my needs. I rather like recreational powerlifting. This means that while I don't lift the freakishly heavy weights you see for pros or even dedicated amateurs, I do heft double+ bodyweight amounts on the big lifts (and I'm not significantly lighter than you, to give you perspective). It's been implied to me that this may not even be feasible with the equipment in most gyms, and even if it is, one will get looks akin to those cast upon Gigantus as he knocks the earth from its orbit. Do you have any perspective on this?

In the meantime, I'll have to work on my "gym mix" in preparation for the musical Prozac. ;)

Chrome, I did a six week program one summer and one of the kids on the trip was into power lifting. He used the school gym that had barbell free weights, don't know about dumbbells. He also brought is own whey with him. But the university actually had a power lifting club and he became good friends with them, even traveling with them to watch a meet. the gym i go to here in sin-urayasu (tiba-ken) is small, with cute chicks as staff, and they play some crazy ass music, mostly rap. one time they were strait up playing Kim by eminem, haha it was wild cuz they probably have clue what that song means

I dunno, I just for some reason imagine Martin Luther King Jr. preaching about the advantages of an authentic negro cock amid a croud of 100,000.

That's why that seemed funny to me. I have an overactive imagination. :gloomy:

We need to find a script or something in which we can replace all instances of a common word with Authentic Negro Cock in order for hillarity to ensue. Like replacing wand in the harry potter movies, for anyone who's seen that joke.

Hmm.. interestingly, At least here in Finland there is a safety welding gas manufacturer AGA which specialty is which stinks and thus tells you that there is a gas leak. Their product logo is a skunk. I always wondered what AGA stands for.

Azrael, do the Japanese who gaze upon your warrior of love compare (out loud I mean) it to other imported penises they have seen? I have gathered from your column that Japanese aren't that shy when it comes to comparing bodies.

Thanks, YN. It's good to know there's some outlet for that sort of thing. (Though I worry about importing whey, it's expensive enough!)]

It's probable that I'll end up in a "regular" gym, at least on my info right now. I don't know if there's anything equivalent to the "muscle culture" in the U.S. or certain European countries; I'm curious if someone sitting up and down with eight plates on their back is going to look as weird as, say, someone doing sumo drills in a Seattle Gold's. ;)
