I don't think I've mentioned this here, but I am a total freak for Hong Kong action movies. So, here's the HK movie thread. If you like them feel free to post.
I will soon have China Strike Force. Saw a preview, seemed pretty good. Stars the same guy that was in The Storm Riders, the huge blockbuster of '97.

I've been steadily losing interest in recent HK films lately, I check out things that catch my interest and lately it been the Classic Shaw Brothers films that have me intrigued.
Also my new found love for rare Classic Japanese films has kinda drawn my Attention away from HK for the moment.

I like almost any movie with Chow Yun Fat or Donnie Yen. Though Donnie Yen movies are really hard to find.

Chow Yun Fat is always good (The Killer is my favorite John Woo film). Donnie Yen is sometimes hit and miss, his action choreography is usually great, but alot of the time the script stinks, poor guy.
Infernal Affairs is pretty damn good. It's also being remade in Hollywood with Martin Scorcese and Leo DiCaprio, which I could care less. I haven't seen the sequels though, but did hear some positive words about the third one. It's only the first and the third that has Andy Lau and Tony Leung.

Have you ever seen Ballistic Kiss? If so, is it any good? For some reason I really want to see it.

I haven't seen it, but like I said, I have been caught up in the recent releases of the old Shaw Bros. films and classic Japanese films, not to mention my anime collection. So I'm pretty behind on the more recent stuff
I'm a big fan of Oldboy, which is a Korean film, I know, and that is being remade too. With the guy who directed Better Luck Tomorrow. I liked the movie, but it wasn't nothing spectacular, so I'm rather miffed about that one too. Hollywood is slacking off instead of making good movies- but December will be good once King Kong and Narnia opens.

Another King Kong is pointless, I'd much rather see the original. And as Bright and shiney as the new Chronicles of Narnia films will look, I still think the BBC ones are definative.
Anyway, Now I have the urge to watch my Shaw Brothers films tommorrow, and maybe The Killer too

Loved Internal Affairs, don't know about the seqeuls or about the remake. But i loved the movie great ending
Infernal Affairs is definitely one of the best Hong Kong movies of the past few years. It's not like the typical Hollywood action flick either.
On the side, I have a soft spot for Steve Chow movies- earlier stuff he did before Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. SS and KFH are cool, but his earlier stuff has its own brand of zaniness.

The Greatest Steven Chow movies?
God of Cookery will always be my favorite. it's just so hilarious.
Love on Delivery cracked me up too. I cannot find it on DVD, which angers me, but I know it will come. I saw it on the international channel way back when and I just could not stop laughing.

I saw this movie called "Fulltime Killer" starring Andy Lau and Takashi Sorimachi of GTO live action tv. Both were hit men and Sorimachi's character was "O" and he was THE hitman with Lau being his rival for #1. Was pretty kick ass.

I just watched Sha Po Lang (SPL) and I must say I was quite impressed. It was a gritty crime action/drama were they didn't pull any punches to make it a nice movie. Contrary to many HK action movies I've seen recently, the story was pretty good, no exactly original, but I can't get tired of the badass cop genre.
It stars one of my favourite action actors of all time, Donny Yen and he once again just exhudes coolness. The fight scenes (directed by Yen) were very fast paced and enjoyable with a minimum of wirework or any fancy tricks. Sammo Hung also starred and I must say he can still move in his advanced age.

Andy Lau's my favourite actor and Infernal Affairs is one of my favourite movies. I havn't been able to see many new HK films lately, but the ones I do watch usually have Andy Lau in them. There was this really touching movie, I think it was called 'Togather' about a boy who plays violin, but I'm not sure if it was Mandarin or Chinese (if it even matters). Well its a good drama and the kid in it is hella talented.
I don't really like foreign films being remade for different audiences, more specifically asian movies being remade for Hollywood, because they usually end up lack lustre and not as good as the originals, but I guess it works both ways
