Russian scientists managed to graft a puppy head onto an adult dog, then fully transplant a monkey head onto another monkey's body (leaving it a quadrapolegic).
:eyepop:
This is an article on a National Geographic channel show. I dunno if it's gonna air in America or not (though I don't get National Geographic channel anyway, as far as I know, so it's a moot point for me >_>), but it'll air sometime this month in Britian, apparently.

A film from the 1940's on the same medical experiments. This one seems ever more messed up. :box: It's also disputed to whether it's real or not. Since the points of these experiments was to compete with the West in medical advances (similar to the space race), this might have been faked.

I feel uneasy about all this stuff, but I just wanted to say...
Poor dogs. :gloomy:

That's slightly disconcerning.
Even if it isn't real, kinda creepy.
And yes, poor doggies! Oh my.

This is actualy about 7-8 years old - when they first tired it(recently). They seem to be closer to success, though.
OTOH, it does raise the possiblity of jsut replacing the defenctive body you have someday with a cloned one or a donor once they figure out how to deal with reattaching nerves properly.
Oh - one more interesting thing. In Philosophy, there is the whole argument about person/self/mind. It's pretty clear from this that your brain is you and your body is just a support mechanism for it.
P.S. Yes, it's 110% real. Welcome to the future! Cybernetic implants and bionic replacements are only a decade or two away
P.P.S. I can imagine someone like Castro dong this. His body is failing. New body - still around for another 20-30 years. Take THAT capatalist dogs! ;)

Do you mean the documentary, the experiments, or the movie from the second post? >_>
The movie is from the 40's, the experiments were during the early cold war (50's), and the National Geographic channel documentary hasn't even debuted on TV yet.
Yes, poor doggies. :( I can't possibly imagine how even the most detached scientist could do those sorts of experiments. Sure, there might be a good reason in seeing if you could transplant a head from one body to another, but considering doing so would require the barbaric mutilation of all those research animals (I consider sawing off a puppy's head and surgically attaching it to the neck of an adult dog barbaric :meh:)....
Hey dogs are just meat. Just like cats, monkeys, or some people* for that matter.
If you are squeamish, and don't 'ave the guts, that's your problem.
*generally those either brown, black, or of different religion

Don't have the guts to do what? Decapitate a dog? Ooooooh, how brave!
That means people who do this to humans have even MORE guts?
And nothing is "just meat" when it's alive. Dead...maybe.

How about Tinkerbell's head on Paris' body? At least it would make her smarter...
