ok, so we're going back to tokyo again as some of you may know.

i have looked this up before many places and i know about the whole "pay months in advance rent" thing when you rent an apartment in tokyo.

however, he absolutely will not believe that you have to pay a month or so in advance for rent for apartments unless he sees people responding to this with the fact that yes, this is true.

the reason i bring this up is that he wants to stay in an apartment while we're here, that says for 2 weeks it will be 1,935 dollars for 3 people.

i got one question myself though: it's in suginami-ku, how far is that from shinjuku, and how far is 3-5-6 suginami-ku from the train station, and i'm guessing it's not on the main JR line so you need to take two trains just to get to shinjuku, right?

You're going to show your dad a thread on a message board telling him he's "fucking stupid"?

This is the dad that (I assume) is PAYING FOR YOU TO GO TO TOKYO?

What is this? Ungrateful spoiled brat month on OP9?

the reason i bring this up is that he wants to stay in an apartment while we're here, that says for 2 weeks it will be 1,935 dollars for 3 people.

He is right and you are wrong. Dumbass kids. Seriously you don't know shit and you won't know shit until you grow up. Which will probably take a while.

A corporate apartment is exactly what I did my first trip to Tokyo and it was awesome. The only difference was ours was that price for one week and in the middle of Azabu Juban which is a short walk to Roppongi.

i got one question myself though: it's in suginami-ku, how far is that from shinjuku, and how far is 3-5-6 suginami-ku from the train station, and i'm guessing it's not on the main JR line so you need to take two trains just to get to shinjuku, right?

That address is right here. (http://maps.google.co.jp/maps?f=q&hl=ja&q=%E6%9D%89%E4%B8%A6%E5%8C%BA%EF%BC%93%EF%BC%8D%EF %BC%95%EF%BC%8D%EF%BC%96&ie=UTF8&z=13&ll=35.676542,139.644127&spn=0.102352,0.188484&om=1&iwloc=addr)

Looks like you are a 1 or 2 minute walk from that train station there. You can't really get much closer.

One station away you switch trains and hit Shinjuku. Or if you stayed on that line you'd hit Shibuya which I personally find superior to Shinjuku, but that's just an opinion.

Also, you could walk to either one in about an hour. I've done longer walks so its really not that bad, but that's just me. (Walking for an hour isn't bad when you pass a conbini every 10 minutes.)

Oh, one more thing I just noticed. If you take the train the other way you can get to kichijouji which I think is a pretty cool place. There's this really awesome meat ball thing selling place there. It's easy to find because of the line.

The only better place to stay would be to stay inside of the Yamanote loop, but that would be twice as expensive and not necessarily twice as fun. So really shut the fuck up. You dad is taking you to Japan which is pretty fucking awesome.

you are how old? i'm 21. thanks for assuming.

A corporate apartment

i'm not talking about a corporate one. this one is independently owned.

The only better place to stay would be to stay inside of the Yamanote loop, but that would be twice as expensive and not necessarily twice as fun. So really shut the fuck up.

how about not trying to sound hard on a message board? btw, you're wrong again. :D

www.google.com
search "shinjuku new city hotel"

3 people rate on 3 beds for 2 weeks at this hotel, right in the middle of shinjuku, extremely good quality hotel, is: 680 or so dollars per person

3 people rate on 1 bed and 1 couch for 2 weeks at this apartment, at the adress I listed, is: 650 dollars per person

damn, that's twice as expensive huh?

You dad is taking you to Japan which is pretty fucking awesome.

This is the dad that (I assume) is PAYING FOR YOU TO GO TO TOKYO?

wrong, i'm paying for the flight, hotel, food, arcades, commodities 100% myself. thanks for assuming :D

i forgot, if you don't know japanese fluently and if you aren't elitist, you just get treated like shit on these boards by the mass majority of posters since they assume everything about you to be whatever they stereotype.

anyways, thanks for the help (i guess?)

I did search. What's your math?

Triple room @ 18 500 yen per night, times 21 days of stay, equals 388 500 yen, or roughly $3300 USD.

Not twice as expensive, but just about 150%. And farther away from the station, too. The apartment is looking good if you're on the cheap, plus if there's a kitchen (which there obviously is, right?) you save on food.

Perhaps a link to the apartment owner's page, if there is one, would have helped.

Edit: I fucked up on my math, as it's 2 weeks, not 3.

i said *most*. i met one of my best friends on this forum, so i know there are nice people, and you seem to be one of them.

but you can't ignore how extremely flame-prone the majority of people here are.

considering my dad pretty much refuses to believe anything but what he "knows", and i'd been arguing with him all morning, yeah, i was pissed off, we get into fights and get out of them within about 5 minutes after the argument's over (i.e. forgotten about and are happy again).

21 is a kid.

Wrong. If you come on these boards and called your dad fucking stupid over a disagreement, generally have a piss-poor attitude, and act like a stuck up cock...

do you know my family? no. you don't. so don't assume.

as i said above, me and my dad cuss each other out like crazy for an hour straght, but then after the argument's resolved, we're fine and happy again, and have no ill will towards each other within minutes.

sorry that you can't understand that :(

and stuck up? i do believe you were the first to throw insults towards me without any reason to do so, and assume that i was not paying for my trip. pot calling the kettle black there much? yeah.

oh and by the way: 21 isn't a kid. Young by some definitions maybe, but not "a kid". learn english thanks :D

just to talk shit, oh, right.

I did search. What's your math?

ummmmm

3 people rate on 3 beds for [b]2 weeks

14 days, is probably where your math went wrong. not trying to be an asshole but yeah, check the post i did again, there is only less than 50 dollars difference for 2 weeks stay at either place.

and farther from the station? uhhhh... the apartment where i'd be staying is 15 minutes from the yamanote line, shinjuku new city hotel is 5, at most. i know i didn't give the adress of the apartment but yeah.. don't follow the example set by others on this board by assuming :-/

with that, hope you guys learn to read my post more instead of assuming and being an asshole the second you get the chance :D (not directed to everyone i quoted obviously, only some)

your dad does sound like a fucking idiot. You should introduce him to Crowley, they have alot in common.

My parents visited here last year and we rented them a weekly apartment for 3 weeks near where we lived. We had to book then pay in advance. It makes abit of common sense that you would be expected to pay in advance or make a deposit because of the length of your stay should you cancel and they lose out by turning away other customers.

You should also maybe introduce your dad to Mikem who sounds like an equally stupid fuck to make a comparison with corporate housing vs publicly available accommodation.

While I'll agree you're a kid to many of us - at 21 you don't want to come across as needy and uncooperative. Many of us enjoyed your videos.

I think you can get a better deal if you do a more thorough search. Why 3 people? Either way you can make a better deal at the Kimi Hotel:

This has long been a Tokyo favorite for inexpensive Japanese-style lodging. Spotlessly clean and with such Japanese touches as sliding screens, flower arrangements in public spaces, and traditional Japanese music playing softly in the hallways, it caters almost exclusively to foreigners (mostly 20-somethings) and is so popular there's sometimes a waiting list. A bulletin board lists rental apartments and job opportunities (primarily teaching English); a lounge with cable TV is a favorite hangout and a good place to network with other travelers. Rooms are Japanese style, with singles and the cheapest doubles the size of 4 1/2 tatami mats, and the larger doubles the size of six tatami mats (a single tatami measures 1m by 1.8m/3 ft. by 6 ft.). Note that there's a 1am curfew.

Fax them if they can accomodate three of you.

To agree a bit with the OP, I don't post a lot in All Things Japan as much as I'd like to (I'm studying Japanese and always have questions!) because you guys seem to be pretty mean/harsh around here. So I mostly just lurk here =/. I won't name names as to who is mean (I think you can guess), but so far, the only people that really seem cool/nice over here are 羽之助 and Japanat (and a few others... maybe...) I don't count Neko because she hangs around the other forums too and she's crazy/cool everywhere.

I dunno, despite agreeing with what most of you said about the OP, y'all just seem so...mean

A couple of comments on this thread:

!) DeepBlue and Aargon, you do know what corporate housing means, don't you? It doesn't mean corporately-owned, nor that all clients are corporate. It means short-term rentals w/o excessive deposits which contain all the living necessities such as dishes, pots & pans, sheets and towels, such as traveling businesspeople would need for stays of more than a few days.

2) Be careful of costs. I haven't researched this, so I freely admit I may be wrong, but make sure the prices you're looking at are per unit day or per person. Most prices for hotels, etc, quoted in Japan are per person, not per party.

3) Everyone take a chill pill! Shit, if you think he's being lazy and not researching, tell him so. But in his first post he said he had researched it and just wanted some confirmation to show his father.

4) Check out this site: http://fudosan.yoursnet.com/rosen.htm

Good luck

This poses an interesting question. Why are people so mean here?

Maybe because there is no law and order or good role models or even rules of etiquette in this forum for people to behave (or they are there, but they`re not enforced very well?)

Or maybe because there is no censorship. You can say fuck fuck fuck to someone and not get censored. You can bitch slap someone and not get censored. Its democracy/freedom of speech at its worst.

Or maybe its the age group of people that post here. From the juvenile delinquents and Japanophiles who have no social graces to the burnt out, angry, have a grudge against everyone ex/current english teachers.

Or maybe people are trying to outsmart or outwit each other or just take out their frustrations on daily life here (touch wood)

Or maybe its just society as a whole?

Anyone read the book lord of the files?

yes, you have greater power as a mod. But with great power comes great responsibilty.

you cant possibly think that you can behave and act as free as a bird as a mod as you would a regular member do you? like i said, you should be restricted in what you say and do simply because of this power which you can abuse.

Take the police for example, if they used the law to enforce or influence their opinions, everyone would want to be a copper. But they cant because they are restricted in what they say and do. They just uphold the rules of society and keep everyone in check.

A 2 week stay will run you from 40,000 yen to 170,000 yen, depending on the quality and location of the apartment.

In Shibuya, there are 5 available apartments. They are all 1K (1 room apartments with a kitchen) which will run you 91,000+ for 2 weeks (that's roughly $800 US, give or take).

Many better options in Shinjuku, ranging from 80,000 yen, to 98,000 yen for a 1DK (2 rooms, a dining/kitchen, and a bedroom).

Depends on what you're looking for I s'pose.
