Since none of my teams are in it this year and I live in Dallas, I'll just go with the Cowboys (even though I think they kinda suck and I'm not a huge fan of T.O.)...though the only Dallas team I really cheer for are the Mavericks and that's only because I know some of the guys on the team (Dirk is the tallest man I've ever stood next to in my life :eyepop: ).
So yeah...go Cowboys!

You should be here in Dallas Fufu.
No one likes T.O. here. Sometimes I feel kinda bad for him, then I remember he's pretty much an ass and that feeling goes away very quickly.
I'd like to see the Cowboys win, even though I'm a big Packers and Steelers fan (<3 Brett Favre, even if he is getting old) and the past few games they have been sucking big time (they lost to Detroit? WTF?)

He is an ass. I always thought it was weird when I heard he refused to train with the team, opting to train alone with his trainer. Yeah nice start, big shot.
The Cowboys have a chance. They're not doing too bad this year, but these last games just boggled this here mind. The game against the Eagles was dreadful; T.O scored the only damn touchdown, and then he just seemed to fuck up for the rest of the game.

Ah, the Super Bowl last year... I was opening windows and chucking rocks at people-- just so they would stop partying! My god, I kid you not, some classes were actually cancelled!
I went to school around Pittsburgh, obviously. That above incident? That took place a week after they won. >_< I like the Steelers, sure, but those hardcore fans are SCARY. I do find it amusing that they have a guy named Jeff Reed, which is my uncle's name. I think I like the player better.
At least I didn't have it as bad as a friend of mine-- she was an Eagles fan and everybody knew it, too. Talk about a hellish life.
Aaaanyhow, back to the present.
Heh, I voted for the Saints. I dunno why, I just like 'em. I don't watch football that often, but I think it would be cool if the Saints won. Because, really, can you imagine?
"Yeah, our city and stadium were destroyed, but we still kicked your ass! What's that say about you?"
I think I'm more for it because talk about a much-needed morale boost for New Orleans. If they won the Super Bowl, then from then 'til Mardi Gras it would be one big party-- and the city definitely needs the tourism!
Drat, I'm being a sensible person. *sigh*
You know what's sad? This is what I think about the Super Bowl on February 4th-- fourteen days 'til Daytona! *happy dance*

They seem more deserving than any other team. Even more so than N.O.
To go to the playoffs so many times only to get knocked off gains my sympothy for a franchise/team/players. Even if it's a team I hate (like the Eagles for example. Sorry Steph).
But the team that will always be my #1 is the S.F 49ers (Yay area, woot woot!)
Yeah I know. Gone are the days of Bill Walsh, Joe montana and of course The west coast offense (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_coast_offense)

QFT. This state is choke town. Everyone gets near the show, but never IN the show. I would like to see them at the Bowl because I am tired of the talent getting them nowhere in the end. Also, we are building them a brand new stadium and they need to earn it. It's a shame with the talent they have, that they haven't gotten one already.

It's just that today in the NFL there is a much more emphasis on the running game. And nowdays Defense wins more games than doe's the offense.

The only teams that really ran the west coast offense that way I thought it was meant to be done were the Raiders with Rich Gannon and the Eagles. The Eagles have changed their offense quite a bit over the last 2 years to the point where I don't even think they run it anymore, and the Raiders have abandoned playing offense, so yes, I'd say the west coast offense is pretty much gone. Now you have teams running variations of it all over the league, but no one really runs it in its true incarnation.

No kidding. I haven't followed the NFL closely since the early 90s. What changes do teams make when they run variations?
Im still calling the Bears. This game coming up against the Saints is going to be tough since they are both defensive teams but I think they could take whatever the Saints dish out. As long as they do that, it seems likes a straight shot to winning the Super Bowl.

No kidding. I haven't followed the NFL closely since the early 90s. What changes do teams make when they run variations?
The idea behind the west coast offense was a short passing game based on timing and three-step drops. It emphasized receivers with good hands and route running rather than speed and height, and a quarterback who was extremely accurate passing the ball rather than one with a cannon arm. The running game was supplemented by the short, high percentage passes so backs in the system typically were smaller guys who could split out as receivers or catch passes out of the backfield.
Today you hear a lot of teams "Trying to impliment the west coast offense" but they are almost always not. Rather the west coast offense was a highly influential system that it now a part of a lot of teams playbooks. You'll see it in Tampa with Gruden's motion offense. As I said before, Philly ran it for a long time with Brian Westbrook serving as a perfect west coast back, but Terrell Owens did not fit the system very well so they started adding a lot of plays for him. This year they started running the ball more and they added another guy, Donte Stallworth, who really doesn't fit the west coast scheme either, so they've molded their system to fit their personel. Atlanta has been "trying" to impliment the west coast offense for years but that was never really possible because they have perhaps the worst personel in the league for it.
Really, in a nutshell, the biggest thing remaining from the west coast offense is the frequent use of motion and short timing routes that you see. My team is in the NFC South so the only time I see it frequently now is with Tampa.

Yes, I am quite familiar with the west coast offense. The right personnel is absolutely needed. An accurate QB who makes good decisions, strong WRs who can break tackles and get good YAC, an agile O line, and a good possession TE, a strong back with soft hands (Roger Craig was perfect).
I was just curious about the variations that have been made.

Now I have to root for the bears =/
Come one guys, like the Colts are going to beat the Bears.
Bears > Colts. No doubt in my mind. Told you guys, outside shot and look who is still rolling on.

But Grossman is either very on or very...well...sucky. he is too inconsistent.
He seems to have been very on all season though so I see no reason for him to stop now after he has gained some serious momentum.

he definitely took a fall somewhere in the half of the season. his interception rate went WAY up. And correct me if im wrong, but QB ratings of 10.2, 1.3, and 0 aren't exactly "very on". I will admit though, i dont watch the Bears play much. When i have watched though, it seems like a jumble of incompletes mixed with a few long passes. I dont think the Bears as a team suck though. They do have a solid defense and a good coach. Best of luck to them, but i would rather see Manning win so all this hype about him will be over.

As much as I love and feel for the Colts and their fans. I'm gonna have to side with Josh on this one.
In football. A excellent offense can't beat a excellent defense.
Remember the Bucs and Raiders superbowl?

If the above was toward me:
oh im not saying that the bears cant beat the colts, i did note that they had a good D. Im just pointing out that Grossman is inconsistent.
If the above was not toward me:
Lalalalala...

No it wasn't towards you. It was just a "In general" post, lol
Fair enough, he has played a couple bad games, but the Bears have only lost 3 games this season and Grossmans stats arent too terribly bad considering his QB rating is about 8 points below the league average.
23 Touches downs and about 3,200 yards aren't something that can just happen. Compared to the league average, for both of those, Rex is pretty good at what he does.
All this being said, I don't like the bears, i've only taken an interest because the Redskins never get far into the playoffs and they were my pick to win it. :D

Just wanted to come in and say
"woo colts!"
Yeah, I'm not a regular football watcher. But meh, doesn't mean I can't enjoy a game!

I know how you feel. My home team is the Browns....as far as playoffs go, just watch that one beer commercial with that guy in a press conference if you wanna know my view on the Browns going to them.
My favorite team besides the Browns though are the Chargers. Im still not over the win that they practically gave to the Pats.
Should be a good Super Bowl though, since neither the Steelers or Pats made it. :D
I was rooting for San Diego too. But ah well, it just wasn't in the cards. can't wait for this Super Bowl. Friggin awesome offense versus a friggin awesome defense. It should be a pretty close game I would hope.

Colts> Bear. After all, I am a true fan of theirs. Why would I side for the Bears? It will be a good game, though. There is no rivalry between Bears and Colts and many Colts fans are Bears fans and vice versa.

They play on my birthday. I'm from Indiana, so everyone and their brother is emailing me with:
"The colts play on Feb. 4 in the Superbowl!!! Are you gonna be in the US to see it???"
Everyone forgot it was my birthday. :(

Eagles lost .. by 3 points...
My dad was extremely angry. He's been in a bad mood all day and taking his anger out on everyone in the house -_-.
I was going for the Eagles myself. It was such a letdown.
Cowboys, now THAT was a heartbreaker.
