Ok, I wasn't sure if this belonged in all things Japan or in entertainment, but, meh, here it is.
Did anyone see this show in Japan, I think it was last summer, where it had these Japanese men dressed only in loincloths, jumping back and forth to music on a stage going, "Yatta! Yatta!"? It was the funniest thing I have ever seen and I can't remember the name of it :(
Can anyone help me out?

Happa Tai, was the name of the group.

(Happan and Hapa are not to be confused, please.)

It was actually a group of comedians that got together to do a funny/weird song.

I heard of a Japanese Rock Band called "Pornographers," or something.

Three of the guys are from a comedy group called The Neptunes. They also work independently, and have done serious acting work in dramas and what not.

One of the guys, Nanbara (the main guy) is a well-known comedian. He often teams up with Uchimura (not in the Yatta! video) and does comedy shows/specials.

The other guy (Bibiru Ooki - the one with the slight gut) doesn't really have any affliation with the others. He does his own thing, and appears on a number of shows.

I believe it started off as a joke on a show, where they all sat around in the leaf-underwear and talked about politics and what not. It became unexpectedly popular, which lead to the Yatta! song.

Vocab: You're probably thinking of Porno Graffitti, a pretty popular rock band here.

...I have been in Japan for entirely too long.

Hahaha... へ~ ;)

Oh, and just for reference, I'm pretty sure Porno Graffiti got their name off of Extreme's album (the one with "More Than Words" on it).

Does anyone have an English translation of the lyrics to yatta? I've known about this song for years, but I have no idea what they're singing about.

An accurate dub of that show aired on Spike TV for a time. What happened to it?

I'd say Ex Girl. You like Modest Mouse? Nice, it's better than any J-pop shizzle.

No, these guys have got to be the* weirdest(or scariest, depending on how you look at it) japanese band ever.

...and this is one of their more normal pictures.

Nah. I think Malice Mizer wins for weirdest, because there's nothing stranger than a man dressed up as a little gothic girl.

Dir en Grey for scariest.

The Gerogerigegege. A strange act consisting of two gay men (one is the main creative force, and the other is an overweight, middle-aged man who likes to masturbate in public). Recordings of masturbation are prominent in many of their releases.

They haven't released anything since 2001 (the CD "Saturday Night Big Cock Salaryman"), and it's rumored that the brains behind the outfit is currently in an asylum. No verification of those rumors, but highly believable based on their musical output. I can't give any concise description to do these guys justice, but you can poke around at http://www.artnotart.com/gero/ and read for yourself. Read the album and EP & single reviews to get the best idea of what this band does.

You don't need to go to Japan to find a band like that.
