I know I'm slow with the uptake, but that movie is MESSED UP! I enjoyed it greatly though.

The only thing I could think through the whole movie was, oh I dunno, everyone was stupid. I especially hated that slutty girl or whatever her name was. The Kazumo guy was AWESOME, but in the way that you should hate a villian and I did hate him.

I know I wasn't sapposed to laugh, but the gunshots were way too fake. Fake in the way that you could literally see it be computer generated. Made me think how the people had to react when the director said, "Okay get shot!"

"That's it move around like a bumble bee. Now run around as if their IS a bumblebee on you. Now die! DIE LIKE YOU MEAN IT!"

It was sadistic, cruel, unusual, and a great movie to watch. Which makes me think that the American adaptation (I assume they are going to make it college students or high school seniors) is going to suck hard.

SPOILERS AHOY!

The only thing I could think through the whole movie was, oh I dunno, everyone was stupid. I especially hated that slutty girl or whatever her name was. The Kazumo guy was AWESOME, but in the way that you should hate a villian and I did hate him.

How were they stupid? They had two choices: Fight eachother, or try to blow up the school. Only one person had the knowledge to do the latter, and we saw how that turned out. If they didn't kill eachother, they'd be dead in twenty-four hours or three days. If they tried to swim off the island, they would get shot by the boats.

I hated Mitsuko and Kazuo as well, but in a, "They're monsters... heh." way. Both of those characters, and every other one for that matter, are better in the novel or manga.

I know I wasn't sapposed to laugh, but the gunshots were way too fake. Fake in the way that you could literally see it be computer generated. Made me think how the people had to react when the director said, "Okay get shot!"

Yeah... my guess is they're going to make the students college level so they can add stupid sex scenes and nudity in to attract the "male audience". There was some stuff like that in the book, but the fact that they were ninth graders made it more impactful. Some of the stuff Mitsuko does in the novel (aside from the killing part of it <_<) is just normal things for college students.

Anyway, I love the movie, but the novel and manga are so much better. The manga started off iffy, and it seemed like they added too much blood, guts, and sex just to attract people, but it eventually toned down on the latter and kept on going with great characterization. The manga follows the novel more closely than the movie does, but still changes some things.

I'm very annoyed with how Hiroki Sugimura turned out in the movie. He was the guy with the GPS device. He's awesome in the novel and manga, and his fights with Kazuo and Mitsuko in both are excellent.

I also wish the ending of both the written works was left in (I'll just say "chase scene" and "Who kills Kazuo?" so I don't spoil it for you in case you wish to check it out).

Definitely at least read the novel, and check out the manga if you like comics.

I thought the manga was a bit sleazy myself, and the silly Sugimura, Kazuo and Kotohiki fight put me off.

I don't read any manga, but I have been interested in reading the book. I just kinda want to compare it with the movie, because the movie was awsome. Which came first? The novel or graphic novel? I remember hearing about it for a long time before I got to actually watch it and when I finally did see it I was like "WTF I thought this was a sci fi movie about kids killing each other on spaceships!?!" Uh, don't ask, I think it was the title and the implicit violence XD.

The novel came first, then the movie and manga.

I like the movies. However, I always thought it was funny (at least in BR2) how everything stopped so they can toss some emotional dialogue like salad. Then, right after the action starts again. Well timed, I must say. I still like them both. I hope that the guys trying to make the US version stop. They can't finish it (Columbine people will be all over it) and if they do, they will leave a lot of stuff out to compensate. The shock is that they are younger students. The older they get, the more diluted it gets and it stops being unique.

I never laughed at a movie/unintentional comedy. But one scene (even though I liked the film as a whole) made me grin.

When all those girls in the lighthouse (was it?) had a fight, one poisoned another, and they went berserk. Because when they argued, they moved around like they were trying too hard. Everyone needed to slam their hands on the damn desk themselves...

the book was so much better. i enjoyed the movie, it was like a super condensed novel...but the detail in the novel was amazing. made such a good read, I really really recommend it for all BR fans.

...they're making an american BR? =/

If you have the time, the fanfic 72 hours is an excellent example of how older kids can work in Battle Royale. One of the best fanfics I've read.

Tbh, the movie had the faults that common in animes, wounds wereclearly just red liquid on a white shirt and also I think quite many survived too long after horrible amount of red liquid stains on their shirts etc.

Can't remember much more about the movie, except all the stuff Saitou and PCP said.

I'm probably the only person that hated this movie. I prefer Fukusaku's Yagyu Conspiracy, And Makai Tenshou.

The novel is fucking awesome.

The movie is fucking awesome.

The manga is... meh.

I thought the scene (In the movie.) where that guy gets the axe in his head and Shuya asks if he's OK was hilarious. I mean, how do you think someone with an axe in their head would be doing?

It was a good movie. Little over the top to me, but good. I never read the novel or the manga though.

I only saw this movie once and that was a while ago- and while it was not a bad movie, I would not call it a great movie either. Definitely over the top at some parts, and was a bit cheesy at times. Frankly, I think there is a good amount of hype behind this one, what with being banned in US for a silly reason. I did hear good things about the novel.

It's not banned in the US, Toei just hasn't sold the rights to a US company.

You are right, though I do remember that no distributor was willing to pick up the movie due to the controversial content and the money Toei wanted for it.

I think there was no way an American distributor would've made profit especially if the media jumped up on the story where students kill each other in a gruesome (though fake, silly looking) manner.

The first time I saw the movie, the first thing that came into my head was "Where the hell is the UN!?"

Then I read the book.

It's quite a read from just a glance. I will check it out, though. I just figure kids going at each other was more intense than with people who we always see battling it out in cinema. It was a brutal change of pace.

Yeh, BR over here would just remain a cult hit. It might enlighten a few more people to the Japanese version, but it wouldn't be a blockbuster. If it became such, it would probably be worse off. New Line Cinema (haven't yet gotten the rights) might be doing it with Roy Lee (who was labeled the "remake king"). The sources say it will remain high school students and will pull from the novel and the movies.

John Travolta could be Riki...okay maybe not.

Koushun Takami wrote the novel.

And Viz published the English translation, in case anyone didn't know.

Unfortunately, it's rife with spelling and grammar errors that interrupt your suspension of disbelief, but it's an incredible novel, nevertheless. One of my favourite books of all time.

Eh, the translation isn't that bad, but it annoyed me when they called Shuya "Shinji" a couple of times. I kept thinking to myself, "Shinji's not with that group of people..."
