View Full Version : Do you D&D?
Well? Do you? Are you a geeky freak like me who can name rules and mathematic forumlas off the top of his head without breaking a sweat? Do you play Dungeons and Dragons? How about something else like GURPS? Or D20 Modern? How about anything where you role play? - not including video games -.
- And, would you want to start a game here at OP9? In the chatroom (Probably a different chatroom just on the same server)

Dude, I had the 2nd edition books memorized. 3e is easier to learn, but I don't have the same "flip to page 95" ability with it that I had after years of poring over those second edition handbooks.
Oh my god! I'm not alone! I thought I was the only one on this forum... who indulges in his geeky desires.
Cnagy - I was thinking about maybe start an Op9 dnd session in the chat room or some such fun. I got a dice bot that is great, all I need are you know, more people. Would ya be interested at all?

It's been a while, but I daresay I still have a pretty darn good handle on things DnD. As someone who can be severely obsessive-compulsive from time to time, I had the DnD bug pretty bad for a while...

I believed you. I want to start a dnd game in the chatroom. I've done it before, It still works fine. Would you be willing to start a game with Cnagy and I?
Sorry if I didn't make that clear. =(

I would never do D&D! I certainly never played that game! I never created a cleric named Adara who was a half elf and chaotic neutral! I have not gone on adventures through my living room! I have no idea what 2d6 means, and have never seen nor heard of the existence of a twenty sided die! Now leave me in peace, before I summon a level 3 beast to kill you and absorb my attacks.
Never huh? So does that mean you would never be interested in starting a game a OP9?

09-08-2005, 06:59 AM
I almost had a chance to play but it never happened. I think it'd be good fun with enough booze, but with my luck whoever wanted to be dungeon master would be real serious and not as much fun...
Here's an old Steven Lynch song, called D&D...
I got my twelve-sided die and I’m ready to roll
With a Wizard and my Goblin crew
My friends are comin over to my mom’s basement
bringin funions and Mountain Dew
I got a big broad sword made outa cardboard
And the stereo’s a pumpin Zeppelin
Its that time of the night we turn on the black light
Let the Dungeons and a Dragons Begin!
It’s D & D
Fightin with the Legends of Yore
It’s D & D
Never kissed a lady before
Nope.
Now the lord of the rings a dark crystal and things
We use these as a reference tool
And when we put on our cloaks and tell Warlock jokes
We're the coolest kids at the school
No we’re not
I know...
Now Tak's a real bastard
But a fair dungeon master
He’s got hit points and charisma to lend
And I rehearse in my room or what I call the dragon’s tumb
When I’m not I’m with my girlfriend
Wow wow wow
You’ve got a girlfriend?
Yea...
Yea...
No.
It’s D & D
Warriors who terrify
It’s D & D
Viiirgins till the day we die...

Hey, I aim to please. Unfortunately, I do have pretty bad aim... and if I was a man, I could make a mean ejactulation post here. Damn.
And as far as OP9... I am going to say something very weird and creepy.
I can't because I feel like I'd be cheating on my brother.
*Runs to shower and scrub her skin raw*
Ah, that's better. What I mean is, every time I play, my brother's always been the Dungeon Master. Not too mention I'm way too flakey to actually commit to anything online... however, seeing as how I am flakey, my opinion may change. The instant is does, I will let you know.

I've been into it on and off, but for the time being I don't have anyone to play with. Hence the books are collecting dust on my shelf for the time being. Have to resort to pulling together a group on AIM, but that only works so well...

Hey, I'm not a Draconion, or a Vistani....
I don't live on a Demi-plane or frequent the Outer Planes, or have Psionics....
and I don't know Raistlin, Takhisis or Lord Soth from Krynn,
although I'm certain they're really really Evil.
We have an evil god called Bane, not Iuz.
We speak Dethek and Espruar, not Common.
And Its 'TIAMAT', not ' Takhisis', ‘TIAMAT’
I can proudly slay every monster in Undermountain.
We had a “Time of Troubles”, not a “Greyhawk War”,
AO, not the Lady of Pain,
and that the Dracolich is a truly proud and Evil dragon.
A Drow can be a Ranger, a Scimitar can be dual wielded,
and its 'Elminster' not 'Bigby', 'Elminster' !!!!
Faerun was the second D&D setting created!
Its 3 times larger than the contiental United States
And the most popular campaign setting EVER!
My name is Kyaa!!
And I am Faerunian!!!
Elminster is a freaking beast. Level 35 beastly mofo. I think Mordenkainan is craftier though.

Used to play a lot. Mostly D&D, but did some Gamma World and a few others for a change of pace. Just recently packed up all my old books, modules and such. All my books are from before TSR was bought out by Wizards of the Coast.
We'd take turns DMing...so had several very long term campaigns (think 10+years) going. One of the core games we started out at zero level, and based on our actions our classes were determined (I was pretty szchizo, Cleric/MU/Thief).
The campaign I was running, based in the world of greyhawk, the core adventures were all inspired/based on Jethro Tull songs. Grabbed some Dungeon Magazine side adventure stuff to spice things up...and unexpectedly nearly killed off the entire party (group of 5 lower level characters faced with an adult green dragon). The MU, thinking out of the box, decides to cast a web spell at the beast's mouth...which normally would do *nothing*, but I made him roll to hit...and he nailed a natural 20. Took me 5 minutes to figure out how to handle it. Rulled that the web went off in the beast's gullet (that's enough web to fill several 10'x10'x10' cubes to being impassible), which effectively suffocated the thing to death. Was a remembered evening. We had some pretty cool ones. One of our guys ran a one nighter, holloween adventure, where we played ourselves and had to deal with all sorts of vampires and werewolves.
Anyhow...we stopped playing when I moved out of the area. I'm back, but the group pretty much went our seperate ways (sad). Anyhow, I have my best set of dice, in a felt lined polished wood container, on my desk at work. Decision making tools };o)
Cheers! and happy gaming!

I used to D&D a bit. Although whenever I did I'd fall asleep because I usually played right after work with my friends. It was kinda funny because I had this rogue with awesome hide abilities that for some reason my friend could never roll and see me. I slept during one of the bigger battles once and was the only one not hurt :D That and I god rolled an umber hulk once... backstab that was a critical hit and like 5 d6's all rolling a six. The hulk was meant to be a challenge because we were at early levels too.
As a side note though, I've always wanted to play Shadowrun but no one around me that I knew got into it. The Shadowrun setting was bad ass. I mean magic and tech in a not so distant future version of Earth was a really cool setting.

Did you go to my college?
Seriously, drinking, drugging, and gaming were a staple of a year or so of my life. We usually had some liquor and a bong on the table. Harder stuff at times. Had loads of fun.
One of the members of our group, who has done more drugs than all the members of Bon Jovi COMBINED and has screwed well over triple-digits worth of women, wrote a book for White Wolf (I forget which one, don't ask) and ran a midnight game of Vampire, a game I had never played.
What was supposed to take an hour or two ended up with two dead vampires (one diablorized by me, oops?), about 30 dead civilians, and a mess of other nonsense. Loads of fun.
We also played a D&D 'campaign' (though it was more like a set of adventures) called 'the Portal' in which you paid X gold and got Y hours in this portal dimension with a ring that let you come back if you yelled 'take me home' and you'd carry everything you had on me. The rewards were HUGE but the risks were equivalently large.
First character to go in: level 6 thief.
Result: Javelin of slaying through the chest shot from a great bow by a medusa.
Second character to go in: level 4 ranger.
Result: Poison arrow shot by a pack of lizardmen.
Third character to go in: level 5/4 thief/illusionist.
Result: Crushed by a boulder shot by a catapult.
Fourth character to go in: level 3 paladin.
Result: Found a giant black pudding covering the floor, I checked to see if it was evil, it wasn't, stuck my foot it, started getting eaten, said "TAKE ME HOME!" and sucked the black pudding back with me which wiped out the village.
Fifth character to go in: warrior/druid Alaghi (like a Yeti).
Result: Got an arm chopped off by a kobold (the embarrassment).
Loads of fun. Lots of death.

I'm not as well-versed as Balain, but I've made my way through a bunch of RPGs over the years. I started out with D&D and then moved up to first ed AD&D, back when there was a difference. Then I branched out into Top Secret, Gangbusters, Gamma World, Champions, Twilight 2000, Traveler, Star Frontiers, Call of Cthulhu, Runequest, and a bunch of others that I'm forgetting.
The only thing I keep in touch with now is CoC, and that's most through their Delta Green setting, and that's only through discussion of it online rather than playing. Did I say that out loud? High school was better.
The only time I ever tried to play Gangbusters was when my parents were punishing me for something and took away all my RPG material. Will the DnD be using IRC? If so, is mIRC really the best client?
Mushu
09-13-2005, 04:43 PM
we could use team speak
I have a dice bot that is set to use mIRC. So the dice bot will be on mIRC, but if you guys want to use a different client than mIRC, go for it. Mirc is the standard client for IRC, pretty much.
You can get it here at www.mirc.com
Go to file > select server > add irc.blitzed.org > connect > join #op9
For the eventual dnd chatroom, I suggest we use #op9DnD
I'll have my dice bot in there at all times, if for some reason someone needs to roll with him.
I also elect Random to DM, because for some reason I feel he will do us good.

Howdy people...Random here was just telling me you may be doing some RP'ing in which case I'd like to join if possible...:D
Also..Joe, as the main DM for the games me and Random play together, I've seen the extent of his DM'ing abilities..I'd be careful, he can come up with really good ideas and plots but is also plagued by a sort of inbuilt ability to mess them up...Still not a bad choice :D..
Oh neat, come join the chat then, and hang out with the rest of us. We still haven't oficially decided on a DM though, so if Neko doesn't want it, he's not being foreced to take it.

There shant be any team speak, not all of have mics. Plus, the quality would be kind of lacking.
Also, by all of us, I mean me.
Wooo, we got a DM, and it's Random! All you hopefuls stop by the #op9DnD channel, that's where the dice bot resides, where you can roll up your character.
We're starting at level three. I'm assuming any classes from the Core books, and complete books are allowed.
Please, keep a savage species to a minimum, and if you MUST have that special whatever, it's going to be heavily edited.

btw: It turns out my roomates love RP games, and they are also heavy gamers on pc. I might ask them to join and see if they want to..so we may have 2 extra people..(unlikely though)
Thing is we were planning on getting completly and utterly hammered on Fri-Sat night. Apperantly Ian's found a pub which has a part going from 12 pm- 7am and we may be doing an all nighter...also drinks are supposed to be dirt cheap at £1 per pint...
So I'm not sure in what condition I may be on Sun..I'll cut back on the drinks maybe drink only a bottle of Vodka and no more..I'll have to figure out a way to do it without losing toooo much sleep..>.<
Note: Jesusland? Never heard of someone calling America that before..I thought you were mostly Evangelist or some other crappy offshot of the Catholic Church( all other Christian churches are basically cheap ass ripoffs..talk about an unimaginative lot.."Hey let's split from the main church and start our own..")
Mind you I don't mind them too much..worst people I hate are the really stupid believers..stupidity and faith unfortunatly tend to go hand in hand, even though they aren't the best pair >.<

Played a lot of D&D growing up. Still play now, though my campaign that I ran ended due to time conflicts and such with my friends that I play with. I really enjoyed running it too, and they enjoyed playing it. Too bad. The way I ran it was I had ongoing sideplots that I would write short 'chapters' for and send them out to everyone. It felt more like going through a computer RPG in that respect. They got to get a bunch of 'cutscenes' that really filled out the whole story with interactions that they wouldn't know about or be ableto see happen, giving them as players, more draws and immersion into the 'story' so to speak. Was an interesting experiment and it ran quite well, though taxing on my time.
Played mostly D&D, AD&D, and 3.0, though I've been itching for a real chance to play WhiteWolf. I love the Storyteller system. GURPS is detail heavy but it seems really fun too, just takes a good amount of game knowledge to get into it fully.
Played around with custom rulesets and stuff, cause I like that kinda shit.
Tried running and playing in internet campaigns, over bbs and chat. None worked out. Its just not the same. You don't have that person to person interaction, nor the comraderie of your friends in proximity.
On a side note, I find it hilarious that Vin Diesel is a huge D&D fan and has been playing for over 20 years. Doesn't really surprise me though. After growing up and getting out of school, I've met some people who you would never expect to be huge D&D nuts to be hardcore tabletop gamers. It's pure hilarity when ex-bouncer action movie stars go on Conan O'Brien and talk about their Drow with double specialization.
Vin diesel is the crazy shit. He's so cool, yet so nerdy, yet so dreamy....

What can I say? People never cease to amaze me with their incompetence. In this I include myself. Still, from what I've heard most of you were fairly sure you could make it. You knew it was there anyways, and if you didn't check with everyone that you were gonna be availabe at the times you agreed to then..
Obviously, Me, Joseph and Random are unimpressed by this. Guys what happened? This was both a real let down and a disapointment. Get yourselfs sorted, and wake up!!!
For reasons, which should be clear I'm not even sure we will continue this. I know Random's put a lot of energy into creating something for us, and I know Joseph was looking forward to it...Again, you guys were a real let down. You really do need to get your acts together.
We may or may not be attempting this again. If we will (probably) Do not repeat what happened today, all your going to do then is disapoint people and get them angry at you.
If we do try again I expect to see you each there...
Thanks for your time
