Double child murder suspect asks friend to look after Chihuahuas
SAPPORO -- A man under arrest for abandoning the bodies of his girlfriend's two daughters has asked a friend to look after his four Chihuahuas, police said.
Police found Atsushi Inami, 29, carrying two cardboard boxes containing the bodies of the two girls, aged 4 and 3, near his apartment in Sapporo's Chuo-ku on Sept. 24, and arrested him for abandoning the bodies.
Police officers also suspect that Inami murdered them.
The girls were the daughters of Inami's girlfriend, who fled their apartment, police said.
"He loves those dogs. I wonder if he couldn't love the two girls, despite being his partners' children," one officer said.
Inami's four dogs were left in his home after his arrest, and officers took them into custody. Inami asked a friend via the police to take care of the Chihuahuas, an expensive breed which sell for around 100,000 yen each, according to a Sapporo pet shop owner.
Inami began keeping the four canines before he met his partner. Sources said that local residents often saw Inami out peacefully walking the dogs while living at his previous apartment. (Mainichi)
Interestingly, I read the other day that dogs in Japan now outnumber children under the age of 12. Not hard to see why.
