You can vote above. My favorite is 7 but 6 was very good too.

(I am not countering tactics and others that were not in the direct series.)

8. I liked 7 a lot, but the graphics didn't do it for me, especially since I started from 10 then worked my way down to 1. I liked 8 the best, overall. The plot in 7 was awesome and everything, but still, 8 gets my vote. Because Zell is in it.
And I am Zell.

In my humble opinion FF7 blew more chunks than college girls at spring break.

6 was the best hands down.

But the plot to 8 was so terrible.

Yes, i know. But it had zell in it. The thing is see, when i played 7, i didnt have glasses, and it made it even wors, so now everytime i play i get pissed (its a pavlovian response mech i guess). so its 8. can u imagine how legendary it would be if they remade 7 now? fuck...or even a sequel to it.

My favorite is 9. Vivi is win. Steiner is win. A male lead that doesn't shrug off his romantic partner's advances, but instead chooses to squeeze her ass at every possible moment is win.

1-3 hurt my eyes, so they're out.
5 had a job system which I really didn't like, so it's out.
9 had IMO the worst characters in any FF (especially Steiner, the anal-retentive super-annoying less-badass version of Barret), and the trance system takes it down a few notches further.
I haven't played anything after 9 due to lack of a PS2.

Of the remaining ones (4, 6, 7, 8), I'd say FF7 because it's one of the most complete in terms of storyline, battle system, game mechanics, and even graphics I'd say.

Well, like I was telling Fujin one day, (with the help of Joey and Michael) My favorite is the one Fufu can't beat or is having issues in. I think it was 6 if I remember correctly. *Fixes glasses. Erhem. It is like teh ultimate and cool.

Six wins because it has Locke in it. Locke is the coolest character ever.

Edit: But that comment about Zidane was very true however. I loved Zidane for being a pimp.

6 had the hugest impact. It was the first final fantasy to pull me away from Phantasy Star 3 and Shadowrun.

Things of importance to me in 6:

Atma Weapon 1
World of Ruin
Shadow
the spell Ultima
the spell X-Zone
the vanish + xzone = insta death trick
the opera house
Espers!
Cyan
Sabin
Edgar
Kefka's laugh!

These things made 6 great!

I absolutly hated Final Fantasy VII and still for the life of me cannot understand the huge fan base and consistant sequals that it is spawning.

When I first played Final Fantasy VII I was quicky drawn in and amused by the central storyline...when I was 13. Fact was is half of the story I wasn't even sure that I got it. It didn't matter to me though, Cloud had a huge sword.

Anyway I never really finished it during that time and actually ended up playing it a few years later and lo and behold I hated it.

I found the storyline to be deluded and mornic. I hated the story so much because it expects you to jump every time there is a twist in the story. There is a lot of twists in the story. A LOT! Cloud was an inperfect clone of Sephiroth and Sephiroth have Jenova cells in him and Jenova was the "Calamity of the skies". Topped off with all that crap they had a corrupt corperation and freedom fighters and something stupid about Ancients and lifestream.

Sephiroth, to me, was a gay man with issues. I think Cloud and Sephiroth had a relationship and just couldn't work out their issues. There was also a subplot, as if they could cram more story, of a guy named Zack. I didn't really care about him though.

I also find it halarious when people cry when Aries died. She was the most useless character in the game. I was happy to see her go because she was a pain in the butt to use in battle. "OHH LOOK! I have no great physical strength and my limit breaks suck hard, but oh well, I'm central to the story line loser."

I never really bought the who relationship between Cloud and Tifa and the storyline actually helps point it out. They never really should be. It only got more boring right about Disk 2.

I did every last detail in that game and have come up with the conclusion that these guys winged it the whole time.

Of course you guys liked it and that's all that matters.

I'm going to have to say Final Fantasy. The swan song will live on forever as one of my favorites. It did a whole lot right, and set the ground work for square to take over the rpg market.

Kusoyaro

Aeris was fucking useless.
That being said, FF7 was really good specifically because it looked like the characters and the designers were basically winging the shit. And they pulled it of as one of the best action rpg's ever. Anyway, saying you hate FF7 is like saying you hate The Beatles. It simply isn't done. And if it is, you just SHUT THE HELL UP!!11KYAAAAA!!!!!!!
But FF8 had Zell.
I'm thinking about changing my avatar to Zell. Any takers?

I liked ten. I don't know what the big deal with 7 was. It was OK. I had to put it down for a few months to finish it.

BTW, Aeris had the most powerful limit breaks in the game. If you didn't use her (and level hers up) your loss. She was also the best character in the game in terms of the story line. I'm not talking in terms of battle (which seems to be how you judge her) but in terms of story.

Masa the Masta
09-20-2006, 03:30 AM
Her final limit break (if you went through all the trouble of getting it by disc one) made the party invincible, if I recall.

Though in a one on one bitch/catfight, Terra/Tina would FUCK any FF7 bitch up.

I'll say this much, FF7 was the worst game i had ever had the displeasure to play. The whole series of games lost steam after FF3, and now we have FFXII coming out soon, what the hell.

I'm not sure, I really did like Zidane but FF9 was lacking something. FF7 sucks, Cloud was a lame main character... the rest was ok.

I'd have to say FF6 and FF10 / 10-2. The reason I list 10-2 is because I really like character development, and it had lots of it. The story didn't take itself to seriously and it was just a fun game to play. Battle system was great as well.

Josh
09-20-2006, 06:42 AM
I liked all of them, but I have this terrible problem of playing Final Fantasy games until right before the final battle and realizing, "Shit, I need to get stronger because I just got owned." Then doing that and not actually finishing it. x.x I've only finished I, II, VII, X and X-2, but I liked 8 the most. Don't know why, VII was superior in every aspect but eh. Personal Preferences. :)

This is a hard one... I like 2 a lot, 7, 9, and 10... but I've only beaten 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and tactics... I'm like at the last boss for 4 but I'm too lazy to level.

The last one. The very last one ever to be made.

I guess I should play it now.

Final Fantasy Tactics advance ate 75 hours of my life... I want them back >>! Final Fantasy: Chrystal Chronicles, was bunches of fun with friends... only problem is aquiring said friends... and then remembering to save after a hard days work... lost like 2 hrs worth of gameplay by forgetting to save _(_)_...
...So ... I've yet to play any #'d FF game, but I'm looking forward to FF3 remade for the DS.

09-20-2006, 08:33 AM
FF6. Without a doubt.

I'd buy a PS3 if they ever remade that game for it with better graphics. Though, knowing Square, they'd somehow completely ruin that remake.

FFVII because it was my first, so it's the most memorable. I played it for 80+ hours, and was simply awestruck. 8 I never played (due to lack of funds, my friend and I would alternate, I bought and played 7, he watched, he bought and played 8, I watched, 9 was me, then by 10 we were in the military and had our own PS2s/paychecks... :D) I've since went back and played them all, 8 being my 2nd favorite, although at the time I hated it. 9 was decent, I enjoyed Zidane's grabassery and Vivi reminded me of Orko so he was win (big He Man fan back in the day). 10 was excellent, 10-2's mechanics were wonderful, but story was WEEEEAK. Then there is FFXI. I played 11 for about 2 years before realizing how much like a job it was. In it's infancy (in America anyway, it had already been at at least a year in Japan.) it was an amazing MMO, and rediculously fun, but the end game was mind-numbing.

That's about it, I await 12 and beyond!

Six. Most things to do, the least linear, the best sidequests and secrets.

I've been getting more and disappointed in FF games as they become more linear, to the point where 10 was almost a straight line. Boring suck.

But 6...

I've finished 6, but I've never completed it to 100%. Its so huge and complex.

FF:Tactics is one of my favorite games ever. It is fantastic.

Kannon
09-20-2006, 02:47 PM
Tactics was awesome, but didn't consider it in the "fave FF" because of it's uniqueness. Tactics Advance.... sad.

(Also, when I said FF7 was my "first", I meant RPG -ever-, not just FF, so it -really- got me into the genre of video gaming I really only play these days.

Final Fantasy XI, the expansion Chains of Promathia.

...Trust me, the plotline to it, once you understand how HUGE it is, is simply mindblowing and worthy of the Final Fantasy name.

The fights are challenging, the story is deep, and if you can find five other souls to do it with...it only becomes better.

I like 9 the best i suppose lol the characters were not that bad and the story wasn't bad either. i reallt like the chocobo hot and cold game. >_<

7 is to overrated imo although it is a very good game.

i liked 10 a lot because of the blitz ball and the celestial weapon side quests

8 got a bit tedious for me because of all the drawing of magic spells.

I never really played 6 so i can't comment.

My first RPG was Super Mario RPG, but my first serious RPG was FF7. Since the whole experience was very new to me, I'd have to say that my best experience with a Final Fantasy was with FF7. If I were to play it now, it might only be good for the nostalgia.

I liked the other ones, but they got really old fast. The series just seems to be going bland.

FFIV > FFVI > FFI > FFV > FFX > FFIX > FFVII > FFVIII > FFII > FFXI

The series went downhill after FFVI. Never played FFIII. Not sure why FFXII is even on that poll. Is it out in Japan? I don't keep up with game news. Especially not Japanese game news. Although, I will say that, even though FFVII-FFXI/FFX-2/FFCC sucked, I still have high hopes for FFXII. The series seems to have gone back to it's roots.

As for the non-core games, I'd stick FFT after FFI, FFTA after FFX, FFX-2 after FFII and FFCC after FFXI. MQ isn't a FF game, so it doesn't really matter. Dirge isn't even worth ranking. Haven't played any of the other non-core games.

I dont care if people say its too hyped, or if they say the graphics are shit or the characters are lame. FF7 was my favourite; best music, great story, great character development etc etc (moan at me about how much of fanboy i am if you want), closely followed by 8 (because it was the first RPG I ever played in my life)

The FF series* has been going downhill since FF6.

* Not counting FF Tactics and FFXI in this since they're both completely different genres than the rest of the series.

FF Tactics was enjoyable, although something always bothered me. The Samurai class had great skills that would have been better if they were not based on magic, which the Samurai class barely developed.

I played a little of FF6 and I still have not finished the game. The translation puts me off, though from what everyone says the game gets better later. Maybe I'll go back to it someday.

uh, my first FF was tactics advance ^_^*. and this was like 2 years ago. I was never really interested in rpgs. The only one I liked was Chrono Trigger. After tactics, I got really into turn-based strategies. I also beat ff4. the next ff game I'll play will be the ff6 port for the gba when it comes out. I'm excited about that. I also played ff1 but got stuck way too much in the game and gave up after a while. My characters were level 35 and I just got the canoe. I ran around aimlessly way too much in that game >_<
