View Full Version : When I go to Japan

I plan on going to Japan within the next 3 years
I hope its sooner than that..but I may have to wait cuz of schooling
I may get to travel there for fun in a year or so!

My worries are with the perverted-ness of the Japanese
which isnt really meant rudely..
Anything Ive ever read or heard about Japan- including Az's editorials.. talk about it alot.
I almost couldnt believe how CRAZY some of Az's students were
and hes a GUY. And well..they were little boys doing it!

I wonder if it would be worse.. (I assume it would be) and HOW MUCH worse it would be for me
Ive been described as a walking anime character before
*lol* (tall blonde blue eyed girl with a big chest)
for someone like me ..I wonder what I can expect from my travels in Japan
I havent come across any-but would love to find an editorial page similar to Az's but from a female point of view. Anyone know of one???

I know one thing I have going for me.. Similar to when Az told his students not to kancho him because he would do it back, but worse
If they ever acted like they were going to do it to me
I would show them my fingers together..
And because my fingers a double jointed I can move my fingers apart while they are still ...together *Lol*( dunno if that makes sense)
I was j.k around with ppl last nite I said: no japanese kid is gunna mess with me cuz Ill just say "If you kancho me. Ill do it back..but watch out. Mine don't come back out"
quite gross-which I wouldnt ACTUALLY do it ever to any onee.. but I bet it would scare the heck out of them.
I should take a pic of my hands so ppl know what the HECK Im even talking about

They would probably be scared of how hot you look. They wouldn't know what to make of boobs.

Are you going there just for fun?

Or is it like the JET or something?

On the contrary, Japanese men, according to Azrael's editorials, are thrilled by the concept of decently-sized knockers. It even extends, in fact, to a fetish with disgustingly oversized pairs of knockers, like the ones you might see on your average overweight American woman (it's getting unbearable down here... ugh). It's fucking scary. I'm assuming however, that your average Japanese man might have more sense than to try for an obese woman and instead go for the slender foreign knockout with the naturally sized pair, so, you might want to be careful out there.

Of course, perverts on the Japanese railway system (apparently where they're most proliferant) won't be expecting a violent reaction. So if ever one of them thinks to touch you, if you've got the room to move, slap the fuck out of him. Scratch him, maybe even bite him if no one's looking. More often than not though, you may be packed in between people like sardines. Perhaps that's why they favor the subways, those perverts.

there are female-only cars during rush hour, that men are not allowed onto, if you are travelling during peak times and worry about getting felt up on the train you could try that; the ones I saw were pink and said 女性専用 (women only).

Considering your looks, you will stand out very much in Japan and likely get quite a bit of attention, even if it's just guys ogling you from a distance, which I'm sure you're already used to by now. You are not going to get attacked by some random kid on the street trying to give you a knuckle enema, that is an unfounded fear. Az is in the line of fire because he works with kids all day and he is admittedly not firm enough to get them to stop their shenanigans, but he hasn't really talked about that kind of thing much in his recent editorials. If you are really worried about real negative attention, I'd recommend travelling around with a buddy, having a friend (especially if they are Japanese) with you will keep a lot of that negative stuff at bay.

I can speak from experience as a female school teacher for ya! I am pretty tall (about 171cm) for japanese people, I have green eyes and a relatively large chest. Japanese people are NOT SHY about talking about the size of my chest to my face, this includes adults. They will say something stupidly obvious like "You have a large chest, ne?" And I will be like... yeah. I still don't understand what they are trying to accomplish by this.

As a female, I have never been kanchoed, and I work in three elementary schools where I would think kanchoing would be an everyday practice. I have spoken to some of my guy friends working here and they all get kanchoed at elementary school every time they go, so I *think* as girls we might get off easy on that one. I do have little girls constantly jumping up to touch my boobs tho, its annoying but its usually the 1st and 2nd graders and always girls so its fairly inoffensive.

One thing that does make me uncomfortable sometimes is the "bad kids" at middle school. The boys sometimes make rude insinuations at me when the teacher isn't looking, sexual gestures and such. It doesn't bother me that much because when you come to it they are 14 or 15 and quite small and very pathetic, but it is really rude. I have taken to sneering at them and laughing with the other girls, they have mostly stopped bothering me. That is the worst I have experienced.

I have never been groped on a train in Tokyo, and I have ridden the commuter trains there quite a few times and the crowded last train home on weekends as well. A friend of mine said that the best thing to do when it happens is to grab the groper's hand and hold it up in the air and yell something along the lines of "hentai!"

Guys stare at me a lot here, but I have never actually been hit on by someone my age (all middle schoolers aside). They seem pretty shy...

I believe you are supposed to yell "Chikan!" which is the term for gropers, hentai is more for general pervert. Either one would be sufficient, I suppose.

But when I go to teach.. I have yet to find a teaching "buddy"
I meant to post it.. that I will be in the line of fire with kancho and ..well I wont get ppl grabbing at my crotch ( I hope not at least) cuz Im not a guy
But I wonder what its like for a female teacher.

There are other ways other than JET to go over to Japan and teach

Tesol is one of them.

Er.. edit *
*lol*
So no its not with JET.
But I may look into JET after I have my BA.. since I think its required

171 cm? How many feet is that? 5'7? 5'8? type deal? I'm almost 5'8.
And funny enough I dont find that many Canadians that shy with talking about my chest to my face. Normally GIRLS and sometimes even they will grab them. (At the bar more than any other places tho..because they are drunk) And guys grab at my butt or chest when I walk by in a crowed bar.. I dont really.. notice it anymore. Thats almost ..sad isnt it?
Thank GOD about the kancho thing.. I think Id be most worried about that. Cuz I wouldnt actually think ppl would TRY to do that to someone ..as a joke??!!! *lol* Hopefully girls get it off easy for that. Like you said. At least I can scare them with my oddly weird fingers.
Im glad I have someone (whos a girl) posting some of their experiences too

I think you can do it if you have a teaching degree or certificate... or if you're qualified to teach here.

Do I need a diploma or teaching certificate to apply for JET?

You have to hold at least a Bachelor's Degree or obtain one prior to departure, or be qualified to teach at primary/elementary schools in the U.S. or obtain such qualifications prior to departure for Japan. Teaching certification or teaching experience is not required to apply for the JET Program.

Have fun shall you travel. Beware of cultural misinterpretations. Above all, do not ever picture Japan as a la-la land (export culture anyone?).

Ive taken a ESL course
and it prepared my class, and myself for extreem culture shock and such
I don't assume anything about a place.. I don't picture it as something its not.
