Well we get to Japanese today, and we notice we have a sub teacher, nothing to worry about, he draws our attention to a sticky note, saying.

"Thursday Sept 7th, Listening and Speaking EXAM."

Well FUCK that.

Im sorry but the school diary says we must be given atleast 2 weeks notice before all exams, we were given our, listening, reading, speaking and writing exam notice exactly 1 week ago. Now 2nd of all, our next lesson after todays is the exam one, so the teacher isnt even here to give us a last 50 minute revisional period.

Thirdly, the school exam notice for speaking says we will be told what format we are to use, like if it will be a convosation, answering questions, interview etc, we dont know that either.

The exam notice also states the exams for listening and speaking are Week 10, currently we are Week 8. So another misjudgement on the teachers behalf.

Now if this were my old teacher i would be happy to comply, atleast he would have listened and then moved it back to another week.

But not this teacher, she is a bitch 24/7, basically, she hasnt given us a revision period this entire year for any of our exams or assesment tasks, while french and german have been revising for the last 2 weeks, we have been learning stuff not in the exams.

We have taken our blight to the head of the language department at the school and she is going to discuss the situtation with the rest of the class (8 people) and the teacher on thursday, she says she can understand the problem.

Sorry needed to vent.

BUT DAMNIT if that teacher didnt F*** us royal.

...also she doesnt even speak English as her first language (her first is German)....

Hmm while it sounds like it suck, I must ask:

we have been learning stuff not in the exams

So what? Should you only learn things that are going to be on the exam? Does that make non examed things any less useful?

Current trend in educational theory is too look at just how useful exams are for most subjects anyway, and exploring alternative assesment forms.

I mean that after we have covered this terms work (Which we have) and the 2 week countdown towards the beginning of all exams for end of year begins (which it has) the school asks that the teachers have atleast 1 every 2 lessons for revising the work that will be tested. We have had 6 schools days since the 2 weeks began and yet to have an exam revisional period, and the next period for Japanese is the supposed Listening and Speaking.

So thats why im peeved, that and she speaks all her Japanese slurred and with German accents so it sounds messed up.

Nup none of those, Year 10 used to get it aswell, but last year's grade 10 fucked it up by partying instead of studying so they removed it from Grade 10.

Dude. We had pop-quizzes every time the teacher's roids flared up, they got cut off on the way to work, or if they just felt like it. In college, it was actually part of every class for a couple of teachers - 10 minutes at the beginning was to see if you actually studied and break the ice.

It happens. And "speaking and listening" exam by a sub is going to be 99% stuff you already know. More liekly fun than not.

... going off because of a pop quiz...(shakes head)... wow school must be getting easy lately...

In my college European History WWII class we had a book as thick as my goddamn head and we had a WEEKLY exam. Considering we met only 3 times every week, it sucked balls.

And when I say exam, I mean exam... not quiz that they called exam... like a 70 question exam plus an essay over 3 sections each week...

Huge book, hard exams... but I actually have to say, I know a LOT about European history, WWII... which I hardly ever come from a class being able to say I know a lot about the subject.

I wish it were a pop quiz, but it isnt this test is work 40% of our overall grade for the Entire Year, its a hell of alot more important then a Pop Quiz.

Unfortunately for a listening and speaking exam, individual study is difficult, and so is study with same ability peers.

He really does need a few in class revision lessons with a teacher.

Hmm, forgot about that. :watson:

Then maybe you can ask the teacher after class if she can help his study, or show him somebody who can. A teacher's job is to help people learn so I don't think she can refuse if you ask her for help. And that's if you need it! :P I wish you luck.

It's pretty harsh to do this in high school, but if you plan on going to college, start getting used to it. Pop quizzes and syllabus changes aren't uncommon.

Also, you mentioned that she's foreign. Is it possible that she doesn't know about the school rules that you mentioned?

Oh she is foriegn but she has lived in Aus for well over 10 years considering she marks parts of the HSC for Japanese (HSC = NSW's version of the USA's SAT's)
