Letterkenny - Umm... has anyone even heard of it?
Apparently it's somewhere in Pennsylvania. From what I hear it is in the middle of no where? I get to spend two weeks there... Does anyone know the area? I'd love any advice or info on things to do around there!

I was in Letterkenny last year but I'm sure it was in Ireland at that time.

I know more than that Wiki article. There is an army base there, that's really about it. Are there interesting things to do (daytime, nighttime, hell... anything really) closer than driving to Harrisburg?

Oh, I know Letterkenny. I live not too far from there. There's a nearby town called Shippensburg. It's a college town (Shippensburg University), but there's lots of little stores, boutiques, and dining choices. It's a neat place to explore, but be aware that pretty much everything ends at five o'clock, unless you manage to find a college party. (Check out the back streets for those, or wander onto campus.)
I hope you don't mind the country too much, because in between towns, it's a lot of country.
Hagerstown, MD, a moderate-sized city, is nearby, too. (Little over a half-hour depending on how fast you drive.) It's mostly a transient city, but there's malls, nightclubs, bars, etc. Chambersburg, PA, is also nearby, about the same time away, but it's a lot smaller than Hagerstown. It's more of an old school city, but it has some nice shops, too.
Does that help? If you go onto the Shippensburg, Hagerstown, and Chambersburg websites, I'm sure you'll find more information than me. Just whatever you do, don't go wandering into Fulton County, because you'll probably get lost. We have so many twisty back roads that we get confused, and I've lived here my whole life! >_< Plus, FC is pretty boring. Our biggest town is under 2,000 people, so not a whole lot of life going on here.

That sounds like a really happening town.
Make sure to attend the local ho-downs and ice cream socials.

Hey, I feel the need to defend ice cream socials! See, at those things, everybody gets drunk and starts talking, right? Hell, if you stay sober, you can find out the dirty little secrets of half the county.
Trust me, very good info for getting your way. *nods*
And that is another reason why Trump should stay out of Fulton County, lol.

So you're saying if I just bring my own booze everyone will like me? I think I can do that!
I did hear them mention Chambersburg so that is probably where I will end up staying. I think it is going to be a long two weeks.
My dad used to work at Chambersburg, did some government contracting work out at the depot there. It's a really quiet area, last I went there the locals were complaining about the traffic because there were 3 cars on the road at the same time. Also watch out for those Pennsylvania-Dutch intersections, I seem to recall several where 5-6 roads all converged at the same spot.
As to things to do, the big thing out there is Hagerstown, but if you're used to a larger city to begin with then chances are that you'll find it rather boring, as I recall...

Well, I managed to get the company to pay for my trip home over the 3-day weekend in the middle of my trip! Sadly, that was cheaper than staying in a hotel lol

Letterkenny is a fucking dump. It's not even in Chambersburg proper, it's on the edge of town. There were a bunch of developments in the area, but since the army downsized Letterkenny about a decade ago, it pretty much went to shit. Chambersburg is also a dump -- there's tons of development on the outskirts of town proper for people who may or may not come to Chambersburg for reasons incomprehensible. The town itself could be described as a college town, except it's home to a small college that used to be a women's school and is known for its veterinary specialties, I suppose.
The thing is, a lot of the shops in town are getting ousted by the local wal-mart, so that's not terribly interesting either. Three exits down the highway is Scotland, Pa., where I live. Not much to do or see here -- just houses. Nothing like that indie movie.
Harrisburg is 40 minutes to an hour away depending on how fast you drive, Hagerstown is about the same. Not much to do there either unless you want to shop.

Well, I'll be there Monday! wee...
I'm so glad I don't get to waste a three-day weekend there. I guess if it is a "college town" there might at least be a decent bar. It is kinda funny at work because the guys here keep talking about strip clubs. One guy suggested I drive all the way to Allentown for a club. Something, BYO... heh

It's not a college town, it's a town that happens to have a small college that used to be entirely a women's college. As I recall, it only stopped being one about 20 years ago.
I'm not the bar sort, but I've only seen one bar in the area, called the Norland Pub. There is (or at least, was four years ago) a strip club called Tiffany's, and then there's the usual seedy places along the highway either way (towards Harrisburg or towards Hagerstown).

I have a feeling it will be a long week. Thanks for the info though.
