So after recently learning that a friend of mine purchased (Quite awhile ago.) a cellphone that can take pictures, record video, play music and movies, access the internet, for thirty dollars, I feel the urge to buy a new cellphone.
But I'm just wondering if anyone has one that they use for surfing the internet and watching movies. How do you like doing such things on a cellphone's small screen?

Well personally my ol'mobile phone before could do all those and i used it to watch the sport replays and thats about it, personnally i think its a good idea, for those who can afford to do it alot more then once a week etc. Since it usually is pricey.
Samsung, Motorolla and Sony are usually ahead of the times with these phones, well actually Japan is but since they are all CDMA we cant use them back in our homelands of Aus, USA, UK etc.

Yeah, cell phone companies cash cow is data transfers. Make sure you can afford it.
And I thought 10 cents per text message was bad ...

Got all that..for $30??? Must have been a hell of a cheap phone, because I was just at a Sprint store yesterday, and I never saw a phone go for less than $120 and if they did all that your friend's phone does, than it cost over $150.
EDIT: Oh and web on a phone is pretty limited. There is a certain type of webpage that cellphones can show on them. It's mostly news, weather, sports, etc. Than when you try to go to other sites, most of them are text based, though you can find a few with pictures. They have google and yahoo and stuff to help you.
The movies on a phone, if your wating to watch it from a file you downloaded, you need coverting software to make it the right file so it can play on the phone. Movies over the internet on your phone, I don't know how that works.
Mobile phones?
I plan on buying one of those schmick new Sony Ericsson K800i babies as soon as I'm into a regular job.
There, my zero point zero two cents worth. :)

Wait, they have mobile phones now? Without cords?
For using the Internet and watching movies on your cellphone- it's possible, but such services are usually limited to rather expensive cellphones, not to mention that you'd have to cough up some extra money to have access for such services.
I have a friend who has a Treo- the phone itself cost somewhere about $200-300 USD, and while it has a camera that can also record/watch movies, he really does not use it that much. Browsing the web works surprisingly well, but for having unlimited Internet access he pays something like $90 per month. Plus, Treo does not use Wi-Fi, but goes through the carrier's line, in this case Verizon.

My Razor is cool. It doesn't have quite as many bells and whistles as some of the other phones but it works well and feels sturdier than it looks.

I would think he had to commit to a plan, but he never said anything about that. (And I can't remember if I asked him about it or not.)

I've got a RAZR, too, Trump. The pink one! It sure is pretty, but I'm not as impressed with it as I wanted. I wanted it SO FREAKING BAD and my mom finally bought it for me, but it really isn't as terrific as I expected. I've dropped it ONCE and the glass over the camera shattered. It is a lot slower than my old phone, like it takes it several seconds to load my pictures I have saved, etc. If you set the alarm & leave the phone on vibrate, the really loud noise alarm still goes off. I don't love it. But at least it's pink.

I got the black RAZR. Yeah I was expecting more bells and whistles, and it's definitely laggy, but I -lothe- having a ton of crap in my pockets, so it being crazy slim was a huge selling point for me. Far as durability goes, I've dropped it more times than I've collectively dropped every other cellphone I've ever had... which is a shit ton. Also, it's the only phone I've ever fully submirged in water (stupid sink...) and after it dried out, it's still working fine. I have a tiny water spot on the main screen, and a bit of water seeped in to the outer, tiny screen, but both are barely noticeable. Good pixel quality on the cam, answer tones, and decent quality of sound of the ringer has made me content with the purchase, although as soon as my contract is up I'm getting the Chocolate through Verison, gotta love a 2gig mp3 player/phone O.o)b

I am posting this from my phone. It isn't ideal, but I use it for most of my web activity now (still looking for a good irc client though).
I have a PPC-6700 that I bought used off ebay for 220 USD (it's like a treo, but it has wifi, a slide out keyboard, and windows mobile 5.0)
Since I'm an employee of radio shack, I can get an employee plan through either Cingular or Sprint.
I went with sprint because the employee plan is 3000 anytime minutes, 1000 night and weekend minutes, and unlimited data, all for 20 USD (I added on unlimited text messaging for an additional 15). And all of that is just by the month, I'm not in any sort of contract.
It's going to be really hard to quit this job.
To answer the original poster's question; the screen on my phone is a little bigger than most and is touch sensative, but it still isn't as nice to use as a desktop or laptop. For me, the convenience outweighs the quality problems. I really always having the internet wherever I go.

I got a Samsung Z510. First slim style 3G phone, though I hardly use the 3G functions. Still pretty snazzy looking.
One thing I don't like on it is the predictve text, its screwy.

I'm broke when it comes to phones mainly cause I'm 13, irresponsible, (I lost textbooks, Money, binders, backpacks, Ds, and fucking clothes) and my parents were still using phones from fucking 1999. So I was happy when my parents looked in to getting a Go phone for my birthday, (nice phone and a nice plan) So I was totally disappointed when I got a nokia tracfone. This phone was a piece of shit pretty much with worse quality and range than my parents craptastical phone, I was roaming at my school down the street from my house, it a ten minute walk at the most.
Fast forward to December (Got the phone in November)
The fucking phone has tarded out completely by roaming anywhere not next to the store where we bought it at, I was being charged for people calling me because some one else had the number who apparently was a Ceo or something, plus the phone screen had died. I get a new phone a bit better but not great and this was all good until may when someone stole my damn 20 dollars phone, didn't even have the nerve to change the voicemail password and message.
Fast-forward to today
I got a new phone that is a step from great. It a Pocket phone and it excellent, a bit pricey though but hey 110 USD don't seems so bad when I get unlimited minutes for 28 USD

(slight bump)
I used to have a cell phone from AT&T that could take pictures with a 4x digital zoom lens, and a decent calendar/reminder application, and it wasn't an absolute whore like my new phone in advertising how "You can log on to AIM/Yahoo/Our Own Craptacular IM Thingy!" My new Cingular(read: From Satan) phone doesn't have a zoom and a really shitty calendar, and it takes FOR-EVER to turn on. :bang:
I don't need to take video or anything with it though, so I'm not going to spend money just for a better phone for at least another year.

I don't own a cellphone because there is no one I need to call and no one that needs to call me.

Nokia 6265i - Does everything in the world. I own it because I hate the home phone companies around here and had a horrible experience with VoIP. Unlimited everything, 40 bucks a month. If I am so inclined I can hook it up to my laptop and browse the internet at the equivalent of a little better than dual channel ISDN.
