Ask for input on essay topics, research sites, presentation ideas, etc.

I'll start.

Assignment: a big drawing of a metaphor (defined by the teacher as "a figure of speech in which a word or phrase that designates one thing is applied to another to suggest an analogy between them, or one thing perceived as representing another". Examples from the teacher: "All the world's a stage", "the ship that plows the sea"). Don't get stuck on the dictionary definition of a metaphor here.
I have to find real objects to represent my metaphor and take them into class to draw. No drawing pictures of pictures.
My ideas so far are more like idioms or proverbs than metaphors: "that's the way the cookie crumbles", "don't cry over spilt milk", "paint the town red". Anybody have any better ideas before Tuesday?

That's a weird assignment.

How about two mirrors set up to reflect themselves into infinity, as a visual metaphor for self-reference?

What about the phrase, "don't eat yellow snow," i think that works right? something to do with caution and something, it's pretty easy to draw, just write your name in yellow on a misty white piece of paper or something.

A child's first time seeing/understanding the number four.

And yes, it is a terrible pun... but think about it, because it also works as a metaphor and not just a met - a - four :P

Gotta got for "the nail/stick that stands up is hammered down". It's somehow so fitting :)

"Don't put all your eggs in one basket" should be pretty easy.

Time is a thief..

When I read that and tried to think of a picture for it, I thought of a clock w/a black robber's sash over its eyes (where ever eyes would go on a clock) and holding a gun on someone w/their hands in the air...

Yeah that just about feels right.

Now off to my meaningless time-wasting job...

I have posters of visual metaphors... there's TONNES!

A woman made of gold with a shovel - Gold Digger

A baby and bathwater being thrown out of a window - Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
a bottle of honey, vinegar and a fly. It's easier to attract flies to honey than vinegar.

a wagon made of rubber bands, with someone jumping on it. (JUmping on the band wagon.

a thin layer of frozen water... "walking on thin ice"
