As some of you know(none of you) my family are friends with the Gores. Last night my parents were talking to Al when he mentioned that he tried to send his private jet to pick up survivors from New Orleans. However, for awhile FEMA wouldn't allow him to send his jet. It can carry over 100 people.... and it would all be payed for by the Gores... Eventually, FEMA gave in and let them save some people. I just think it is crazy that FEMA would actually deny someone who is wanting to help.

well.
You would be wrong.
I could be wrong. I could very well be wrong.
But I'm not.

Honestly, if you expect us to believe that your family is friends with the Gores, then you'll have to post irrefutable proof. Excuse us if we're the slightest bit skeptical here.

In all honesty, you can't get upset at people for being skeptical of claims someone makes on the internet.

okay.
Here is a picture of Al Gore with a personal chef in our kitchen...

That dinner was for a local newspaper to do a food review on the chef's food. Al was invited because he is friends with the family.
and proof it is my kitchen:

One of the reasons they don't immediately allow these things is that it's still somewhat unsafe down there.

... And is that your family/kitchen...??? Honestly, I can't tell if that's really your family/kitchen or not, only way I'd know is if I met you in real life and/or I've stalked you for the CIA.
If that is your family though, then that's some pretty irrefutable proof.
For the record, I haven't stalked you for the CIA...
EDIT: Although... hmmn... perhaps I might have forgotten a secret spy career after retiring from the service... *pondering...*
You can't blame people for being skeptical. I mean how many terms was he vice president for?
He's probably one of those madmen over there raving about how the world commited all these crimes against humanity, with a ski mask on his head. :p

I never said that was my family he was standing net to.
It doesn't matter though.
You don't have to believe me, I just wanted to share with you guys something that I thought was interesting.

I'd have to say that the Gore family consists of people too, and it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility that Shinigami's family knows and talks to the Gore family. Depending on what your family does, you'd be surprised whom you might have indirect or direct ties to. Just as an automobile mechanic, my father has come into contact with some powerful figures in several industries, alumni of prestigious schools (who would offer to talk to admissions deans for me,) schoolboard chairmen (who offered to help me start teaching at the school of my choice rather than working out in the boonies when I get my degree,) state politicians, mayors, etc-- all as a mercedes benz mechanic.
So it would not surprise me at all if Shinigami's family knows, talks to, and are friends with the Gore family.

All right, fair enough. Back on topic, FEMA's been doing some really stupid shit in the wake of Katrina. Walmart sent three truckloads of bottled water on Monday, FEMA turned 'em back. Later on, the Coast Guard sent ships to dock with the remnants of New Orleans harbor with some diesel fuel on board, those got turned away too. Then inexplicably, communications lines were cut by FEMA, and the local sherriff had to go and reconnect them, afterwards posting armed guards next to the station, "No one gets in or out," were his orders.
Mike Brown, director of FEMA, is probably the first to hang after this is over.

If you REALLY are friends with the Gores, make him turn of the internet, after all, he invented it! sorry lame joke.
What is the current situation of New Orleans airports? and maybe these airports are already being swamped by governement aid planes. What is FEMA anyway?

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised, not at all. I'm just a skeptical old nag. :)

Federal Emergency Management Agency. They handle situations like this.... From the way they made it sound, it seemed as if FEMA really didn't have a reason to deny them. Along with that, my friend's father works for the hospital company whose hospitals were some of the ones that were flooded. That company sent 5 helicopters a few days ago to help out... It turned out that there were only 5 other helicopters there. The other 5 includes the news helicopters. Finally, the military is only today getting involved with it. I think the government really screwed up.
someone post why FEMA is turning down aid and help.

Certain organizations turned down aid when the tsunami hit, as well.
Why? Because aid becomes useless after a certain point. Few people seem to grasp this concept. For example, millions, if not hundreds of millions of dollars more than what was needed was sent as tsunami aid.
I'm not saying for sure that that's what's going on, but it's possible.

It may be the old too many hands in the kitchen problem. In both cases, the manpower and time to coordinate small donations make them unpractical unless they go through the system in a specific way. I would guess the Jet might fall into this category. 100 passengers may seem like a lot, but during the miltary evac weren't they doing 100 per minute? Does it take more than a minute to find a landing strip, and coordinate special evac for only 100 people? Definately.
I have to say some of those decisions sound pretty suspect though. Turning away water, and cutting comm lines just doesn't make any sense at all.

Though, where did the military take the people? Al was planning on flying them up to knoxville.

you know what, NO ONE WILL EVER BELIEVE YOU ON THE INTERNET.
there is NO SUCH THING AS PROOF ON THE INTERNET.
the internet=skeptic, proof=photoshop, if there is any reason, any reason at all it could be fake, that reason will be the most accepted one.

The Crawfords were among more than 100 Katrina victims from New Orleans — half of them unable to walk by themselves — who received medical help at Middle Tennessee hospitals yesterday. Another 130 hospital patients and evacuees from New Orleans arrived in East Tennessee yesterday afternoon on a flight arranged by former Vice President Al Gore.

I'd guess the director (whose name I've forgotten) has an ego or is incompetant. I'd hate to assume the worst however (yet), so does anybody have a better answer?

Technically, he is incompetent. The only experience the guy has had with emergency response has been volunteering a few times with an ambulance, or something of that nature. Prior to that, he had something to do with Persian horses? Can't remember if I read that here or at another forum, but in any case, the guy's resume has absolutely nothing to do with anything that his job entails.
