I'm flying home tomorrow. My airline isn't one of the targets listed, and I'm flying in from a completely different continent, but still. If I miss my connection in Detroit due to customs crap, you guys will know.

They've banned liquids on all U.S. domestic flights, and all U.K. to U.S. flights. Various American airlines have cancelled flights to Heathrow, and Heathrow is advising other European airliners to cancel flights to them for now, too.

Anything that has liquid, even LCD displays in electronics, are banned in carry-on luggage.. You have to put them in your luggage that goes in the cargo area, or in severe cases, chuck them in the trash.

Alert level for U.K.-U.S. flights is severe (red) on our side, domestic flights and other international non-U.K. flights are high (orange), and our national security level remains at elevated (yellow). Britain has put it's alert level at Critical, which is the highest.

Lottts of things going on.

Yeah, I saw on yahoo news they're even banning things like coffee. How the hell can you disguise an explosive as coffee?

There are endless ways to disguise explosives.

The problem was that the explosive has a clear water look to it and could be colored or shaped in any way.

They were doing it in eye drop droppers. So, I think they have their ways. Yeh, I posted this in the thread about bringing ramen noodles through customs when I saw the breaking news last night (Well, 4am). Messed up time in the skies. May your journey be a safe one.

On CNN, I heard they were going to mix it all up in Gatorade. Who knew Gatorade had such explosive properties?!?!

It's a chemical(s) that you can convert to a powder and then mix it with the substance. It's also non-flame-creating, and contains no nitrogen... it won't be detected by most bomb-chemical tests, because these tests look for traces of nitrogen. No nitrogen, no detection.

I'm quite pissed that they are actually gonna ban liquids on carry on, not to mention other little technicalities they got going on. Because it will cause more headaches than preventing any possible acts of terrorism, not to mention prolong the waits and delays at the airport- for a frequent flyer like me, this actually made me consider travelling by train. For five seconds.

I do have the utmost respect for the people who were able to foil the terrorist plot before it took place- granted, if such plot actually took place, I'm pretty sure there would be no flights period, just like they did right after 9/11. What is really sad though is by the disclosure of their plan, the terrorists were able to alter our daily lives and put us through the fear of a possible threat, which is exactly how terrorism works. Even if their plan did not go through.

Let's just say this war against terrorism is far from over.

My laptop is my saviour during long flights. Movies, games ... I hope the LCD ban is only temporary.

It actually was a rumor. You are allowed to take electronics, including LCD laptops, on the planes. Beverages are absolutely banned.

that's just messed up. I read a couple of days ago (i think it was tuseday or wednesday) in which a lot of the muslims in high polical places here in england are saying how the police over here are being racist by using racial profiling to arrest terrorists.................and in the opinion column of the same paper a person was saying that the muslims in high places are totally stupid because of course the police are going to looking for muslims because it's muslims (or at least that's what they call themselves) that are acting like terrorists......

tis a sad world we live in friends

I have to fly in September, I wonder if things will have calmed down by then.

The odds of being killed in a terrorist attack on airplane are very low. There are many others things that people do that are far more likely to them. I wouldn't worry about it.:gloomy:

I plan on brining ice aboard the plane. Cleverly disguised as a miniature glass sculpture of course which will be wrapped in lots of bubble wrap, when in fact, it will be plastic, and filled with solid water. So right as we begin to approach NYC, I can whip it out and scream "NOBODY MOVE! I HAVE WATER."

I'm more worried about standing in line and wasting even more more of my time than I am worried about my safety. I used to get to the airport ~1.5 hours before my flight took off. I would also try my hardest to have no checked baggage at all so I could just leave without having to wait for the slowest baggage claim known to man (Orlando international... 30 minutes for the bags to start coming is a short time ... sigh)

I would just like to register a complaint against the world for making me spend 12 hours in a dehumidified box with no lotion, no chapstick, and four small cups of water. My skin is flaking off.

Oh, and I got out my cd player to discover the batteries were corroded. :gloomy:

I got back from Europe like 2 days before this stuff started and im glad I missed it. I must've had like 2 gallons of water in my carryon because damned Lufthansa and Alitalia never give any friggin water.

9 hour flight and they passed out drinks twice... Damn them...

Stupid Homeland Security being cheap as usual I guess. TSA is bitches. Bitches and Ho's.

pfff now I can't carry my camera bag onboard since its too wide according to the new hand luggage restrictions.

if I check in my cameras and lenses, and they break something, I bet it would take months before I could get compensation

Im an ass.

I flew back home from Japan in Aug. 2002 and my friends had brought me balloons... and as we were leaving the baggage area I popped one of the balloons as a joke cuz my friend hates surprises... and like 9 million people in the airport jumped and gasped.

Kinda cool actually, but stupid on my part.

Flew back from china to the US yesterday. Security took forever, and they screened us twice which created long lines. First the normal one, then a hand search of your person and all your carryon right before you get on the plane. The security lady laughed at me cause i had a chinese version of Maxim in my book bag(I bought it because it different from a american maxim, thats all).

They didn't allow chapstick my flight either : (

I think lots of terrorists are scared of snakes too
besides, not all terrorists are as rich as LA urban gansters are. it cost lots of cake to source the snakes and taking care of them before putting them on the plane, and all of them have to be male snakes, snakes have feelings too, they probably don't wanna die a gay snake. so chemicals that only cost 35 bucks over the counter will do.

I'm coming back from Oregon as we speak, and the trip there was no big deal.

Put your pastes and makeup in the check-in, and don't complain. Arrive maybe an hour and a half ahead, and you'll make it in no time. I had a delay prior to a 3 hour advanced arrival, so waiting was the only thing to gripe about.

Oh yeah, and laptops are ok. Just take them out of the bag prior to scanning.

NOTE: this is my experience for inner-USA flights.

National flights are okay from what I know, but they confiscate something silly like chapsticks, though they are basically petroleum jelly. It was the UK-US flights that were under most security clearances.

I think I'll send most of my school supplies and stuff like toothpaste/shampoo over the mail.

Hey what about ground bus trips to the USA? I have a vacation from Canada to Yellowstone park in the states by one of those vacation buses (greyhound I think). I've been to those types of vacations many times before and all we did was put our luggage in the scanner and picked it up when we walked pass the conveyer belt. It would SUCK so much to not be able to have liquids on buses. I'll be leaving on Aug 26th and back in 5 days. Hope security is not a problem...

NERD

I wouldn't think the security for ground buses would be anywhere as tight as they do with airplanes.... unless the terrorists are trying to make Speed 4.

I know that there is almost no security checks for trains/greyhounds in the US, so maybe when you guys are crossing the border, MAYBE. You guys should have it much easier than our Mexican friends.
