View Full Version : This is why I want to sometimes strangle friends....
I am LowTcP My dumb friend is Pimp Wallice
Pimp Wallice: so, episode 151 is a manga huh
LowTcP: ummm
LowTcP: they come out every thursday
LowTcP: the manga is way past the anime
LowTcP: because it obvouisly started first.
LowTcP: well in japan they come out tuesday/wednesday not sure but their available to dl by wednesday 11p-midnightish/thursday
LowTcP: sense make?
Pimp Wallice: so when does ep, 151 come out?
*sigh*
If you need any backround he's just asking me when episodes of a certain anime comes out if it's not obvouisl already.
Manga = book form not anime/episode.
episode #151 = 151st episode.

Did you create this thread in order to show us that there was someone who knew less about something than you?

same thing with changing your quote, I was playing/trying to be friendly with you.

I'm sorry I just don't care that your friend doesn't get the sequencing of Naruto, and I find it befuddling that you would actually make a thread about it, apparently using his real contact info... what were you expecting? everyone to say "omg what an ass, he doesn't know the difference between a manga issue and an anime episode? geez0rz!"
I just don't get why you keep making new threads complaining about other people, in jest or otherwise.
edit// well i read your other post after hitting send, I still don't see why you're being so prolific, and your passive-aggressiveness has just been getting on my nerves.

When does episode 151 come out? Is it a manga or an anime episode? Is 151 the most recent one to be released?
You answered none of those questions in the original conversation. I fail to see where your friend was being the slightest bit dense.
snip
LowTcP: they come out every thursday
LowTcP: well in japan they come out tuesday/wednesday not sure but their available to dl by wednesday 11p-midnightish/thursday

In Japan, a new manga comes out every tuesday/wednesday, and is available late thursday on the internet, but that doesn't answer anything about whether or not episode 151 is going to be released next, whether or not it's even a manga which is available for release, or otherwise answering the question.
If you were going to answer the question, and as you seem to be implying yet never said in the conversation episode 151 will be released next, on tuesday/wednesday in Japan and thursday night in the US, then you should have answered 'Thursday night.'
Then the question would have been simply answered. The fact that the entire thread is rather baffled by what the Hell you were talking about should indicate that you didn't answer the question very well if at all.
snip
so...
LowTcP: well in japan they come out tuesday/wednesday not sure but their available to dl by wednesday 11p-midnightish/thursday
Isn't obvouis enough? My friends only interested in the episodes. He's been watching the old ones trying to catch up. He doesn't really know his way around what sites to go to and etc. so when he said
"so 151 is a manga huh" he was under the assumption that since HE only found 150 eps to dl, it must stop there.
So, you think tuesday/wednesday in Japan but wednesday 11pm-midnightish(which is actually when they almost always come out)/Thursday wasn't clear enough??
Are you saying If i replace that whole thing with "thursday night" would have made it better? I could have just said thursday, but
A) I wanted to let him have a little background of how it works since he made a confusion with the anime and manga
B) alot of times their out late wednesday why have him wait because I was too lazy to explain it?
but yeah, what's not clear about my answer. Mabye i made a mistake, i'd like to see what.

Well gee, your clarification worked so well for your friend, that he had to re-ask the question because he didn't have the foggiest idea of what you were talking about! And many of the people here don't either!
But then again, like a nice friend, you quickly answered him simply and to the point, rather than making a thread about him on OP9 talking about how dumb he was.
...oh, wait...

and I still explained it to him afterwards. and laughed @ him IN A FRIENDLy way :P
please don't say it's not clear on the account of he didn't get it,
tell me why it's not clear. doesn't it say tuesday/wednesday in japan and available for download wednesday/thursday?
And we look at things differently, to me, making that post doesn't make me a bad friend at all. How I treat him in real life does. And I go out of my way for my friends alot of the times. Anyways,
explain where this doesnt warrant a "wow i just said it" to my friend.

I think the point is that if someone asks a question, you should answer it simply and then further explain the mechanics behind it if your audience is willing.
As an example, if I ask you what colour the sky is, the answer "blue" is a nice, concise, no-nonsense answer. You kind of did the equivalent of telling me that it's actually white, but because of the refraction of light rays, etc, etc, it appears blue. If you want to tell me why it's blue after you tell me it's blue, that's cool.
In this case, you probably should have said "thursday." Then you could go on to say why it is thursday, but always start with the easy answer.

Well apparently I'm getting a reputation for being a jerk to Kokujin, but seriously answer this: Why do you start these kinds of threads? I realize this forum is kind of like a free-for-all, but what did you hope to accomplish by trying to make your friend look stupid?
to henjin:
hmmm not really pointed at my friend. just scenerios in general when someone asks you a question, and it's your friend, and you tell them but then they ask you the same question again.
It's like a "if you weren't my friend I would just stop talking to you" moment which I think is a humerous position.
as to cnagy, makes sense. Reason i explained it though is because I saw where he made the mistake and I wanted to explain that so he doesnt get it confused. I know sooner or later he's going to want to know how it works.
IE if someone who just started driving said "uhhh this guy says something about changing oil...like every 3 thousand miles.??"
and you reply with "yeah you should do it every so n so miles. I usually do it every so n so. Stay carefull though or else you car might [insert low on oil car tradgedy here]."

My best torment. A friend loved Snickers bars. For christmas he got a 27 sqft (3x3x3) box filled with packing peanuts and 18 lbs worth of Snickers miniatures. You know, "Snickers, Packed with Nuts". Anyway, he gets slightly ill if he sees one now. Mission accomplished

And yes, this forum is definitely the wrong place to hope for any manner of coherent communication considering the average age and the amount of anime freaks, but there could also be productive dialogue if it weren't always torn apart by cockknockers with too much free time and a major lack of English skills.

I made no claims of using perfect English online. Out of curiosity, what does the fact that these boards are riddled with anime freaks have to do with the inability to communicate?
nice gaijin
09-05-2005, 09:33 AM
if you make no claims to perfect english, then you have no place criticizing (incorrectly) the grammar of others. I've used an 84-word long sentence that was grammatically perfect, as in I could not break it into multiple sentences, in a term paper a few years back. I remember this, simply because the sentence was so damned long.
As for the inability to communicate: It seems that the amount people watch anime is inversely proportional to their ability to form a coherent thought, let alone organize it into a statement, assertion, or agument. For example, one of the biggest problems kokujin has is he does not express himself in a concise way; he confounds his own messages with poor grammar and useless information, then doesn't get why people don't understand what he's saying. It makes perfect sense to HIM, why not everyone else?
You have to write so that people who aren't YOU can understand your intentions. If everyone else is having problems understanding your meaning, or has to reinterpret it several times to finally get to your message, you are not communicating.

So you two blokes are trying to tell me that you never make an error while typing. Well, you get my praise then. People watching anime or being fans thereof has nothing to do with there ability or inability to communicate. Jesus, you guys are like children. Sure, you can boast all day long that you write like adults, but your childish personal attacks make you look like a joke. If it really bothers either of you, or anyone for that matter, that people on these boards cannot communicate properly, I don't think anyone here is going to force you to stay. Pierrot has flamed kokujin repeatedly for errors in his english while blatantly ignorning the same faults in a number of other members of these forums. Jesus, the parties involved in this drawn-out pissing contest are adults, and still the drama you lot seem to spawn is like that of some sodding emo 14 year-old. Congrats.

I watch anime, I think my English is good enough. Watching anime and being able to form coherent posts and/or communicate efficiently have nothing to do with each other at all. Most people don't miraculously become illiterate after watching anime. I say most because, like always, there could always be exceptions.
I don't claim my English is perfect or even excellent, but it sure as hell is for someone that taught it to himself.

Wow thanks for taking my advice to heart there buddy, I said that if you don't claim to have perfect english then don't try to nitpick someone else's. I didn't claim to use perfect english all the time, nor did I correct you on yours. I don't always capitalize the first letter of my sentences; if that's the best you come up with then you shouldn't waste your time looking for an excuse to correct me.
What I said was that kokujin, as an example, does not clearly convey his messages, which leads to a lot of the issues that result in him getting flamed. He doesn't realize that not everyone can read his thoughts, or his intentions from his words... Can you find a childish personal attack in my last post? Are you done taking the high road yet, or do you have another post-script to add to chide me for using a set of periods instead of an ellipsis?

When did it become okay to flame people of their broken language and the need to correct them? Who made you the parent or the teacher? To they tell them what’s right or wrong?
What’s the next step, you go over to their house and start to teach them how to eat and make they think, act, dress and type like you?
Don’t we have other things to worry about then complain about a guy, that we haven’t met or will ever meet and his typing errors. That we have to prove ourselves to strangers and what they might think, don’t we have better self of steam then that.
I don’t know, but I’ll leave it there as this, as many other threads, has turned to ‘my shit is better then your’.

Did I go off on something? I used an example from my past about a very long sentence I wrote. Seems that you have the same issue with making poorly veiled insults then claiming it's for your own amusement or in jest.
Perhaps it's not one's ability to communicate that's affected by watching too much anime, but it does seem to affect one's ability to stand by his words instead of feigning innocent jocularity.

Oh, and just so you don't have to worry about mistaking what I said for another poorly veiled insult, I'm going to say this as clearly as possible:

Correcting other people's typos and grammar mistakes over the internet, people you will never meet, just makes you look sad in my eyes.
Claiming you are mature and an adult, then constantly inviting me into a pissing contest and making personal attacks at me( no matter how well you hide them), makes you looks sad in my eyes.

I'm glad you were so amused by an objective observation followed by a personal anecdote, but if you wanted to be nonchalant about it then perhaps you don't need to keep reminding us how much how much it doesn't matter to you.
I made a generalization about the amount of anime someone watches affecting their ability to communicate; obviously a generalization such as this can hold no water, since I don't know everyone who watches anime and I haven't done an empirical study. If you took exception to this I apologize. You totally blew my flippant statement out of the water, congratulations.
edit//kokujin, I'm tired of repeating that this is not about mere typos and grammatical mistakes. If all this grief gets you to realize that you should be more concise then it was worth it. Consider that your tone and mood do not shine through your words; those of us on the net only have your words, and a lot of your meaning is lost in your sentences. When people misunderstand you, try to take a moment to consider why they might be doing that.
