So, I was browsing the English language version of asahi's website, and came across this article:
http://www.asahi.com/english/Herald-asahi/TKY200607030132.html
In summary, it talks about a Japanese woman who did a bunch of interviews with people in countries occupied by Japan during the war who had their lives destroyed because of medical expenses from accidentally setting off abandoned bombs, or other similarly unfortunate events.

I was thinking "Wow, so there is some awareness and feeling of responsibility for acts committed during the war, and the aftermath"

However...
I can't find a Japanese version of this article.:eyepop:

Now, I don't want to jump to any conclusions.. Perhaps I'm just not searching well enough (definitely a possiblity)

However, if this article truly doesn't exist on asahi in Japanese, the question is:
1) Is this simply an oversight? Perhaps this is a weekly column that never runs in Japanese, and only this week it happens to cover the effects of the Japanese occupation? or....
2) There was an editorial decision made that this was too sensitive a topic to have an article in Japanese on.

I suppose I shouldn't be suprised by either. :gloomy:

Here's to hoping my Japanese sucks and I just couldn't find the corresponding article...

Maybe it just happened that way, I think.
she is the film director who often receives media exposure.

I think the Japanese media leaves a lot to be desired. The news is dominated by business scandals and "hot hot it is" top stories, but you rarely hear about anything else except the big stuff. Not to say crime doesn't occur here, they just don't report it unless it's something huge.

it'd pretty funny if it actually didn't exist in Japanese.

No. It would be pretty sad.......yet not surprising.

Yeah, there have been times when I come across stories that seem so unbelievable and then I can't find the Japanese version ... but usually it takes some poking around on Yahoo News or Kyodo before I find it. Usually.

It happens all the time here in the U.S. as well.

Thank God for the InterNet - at least while it lasts.

You know, I should. I was last there in 2000...

It rained so much though. Coming from Texas, that'd be climate shock.

My grandmother lives in Suffolk, near Ipswitch.. If you know the town, it's Woodbridge. She lives kinda on the outskirts of that, on the beach itself... Look up Shingle Street, and you'll see.

She also lives in Malta for most of the year, but I think I'd rather stay in England and watch the house.

You know... I can just -go- if I wanted to. I still have dual-citizenship.
