I had to start this topic. It is always so easy to concentrate on the horrible things that are happening in the world. In a case of tragedy, we need to all remember that things like this can bring out the worst and the best parts of a person's humanity. I want to concentrate on the good. It is by recognizing what you have, and not what you have lost, that you can move forward.
I was just watching NBC Dateline, the pictures and stories are enough to break the most jaded soul. One story in particular caught my attention and brought tears to my eyes.
It was about a family of about seven, with another child on the way, who was able to evacuate their home to Florida. Upon their return, not only their home, but also their entire street was leveled. Soon after seeing this they traveled to a local pharmacy where they ran out of gas and had a flat tire. With what little money they had left, this family bought themselves a few snacks to eat. A little later, a Good Samaritan brought over some more snacks and books for the five children. The happiness on the face of the little girl was pure and grateful and beautiful. Moreover, the owner or manager of the pharmacy gave them two bottles of fix a flat to help them get on their way. And lastly, probably the greatest gift of all at a time like this, a few gallons of gas were given to this family.
What is so special about this story is that it goes to show that although things such as looting, panic, and devastation are occurring there are still human angels on this earth.
May goodness and kindness guide and bless all those who are helping those in need.
