What do you think is the worst Japanese song ever? I dont mean parody or a song thats meant to be a joke, but a popular song...

I give it to Da Pump for Honey.

Terrible.

Makes me sick.

You?

Really?

I think most SMAP songs (although I'm ashamed to say I like 'Lion Heart' and a few others) and any song by SPEED qualify. SPEED sounds like a catfight in most of their songs (my Graduation).

Really like Chemistry, though!

Agreed. Hips Are good. But the music from journe is better.

Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill,
everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice,
just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

(chorus)

Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlight people

What does that have to do with anything? ^_^*. No offense, but that was completely random. lol. I really, really love that song though.

Last summer when I participated in this program where I was a "student activity leader" for a bunch of Ichinensei from Niigata, all 100+ kids were in groups and had to sing these English songs. The very best performance was from this group of really roudy boys who *REALLY got into Don't Stop Believing. I mean, they were jumping all around the stage, they dragged in their friends from the audience and it was mayhem with them all screaming "DON'T STOP BELIEVING!!!" My superviosor was *pissed* but she was somewhat bitchy. We all loved it though!

I don't why you listen j-pop....there's a lot of good music in japan...i don't like j-pop because some songs until today hasn't change the rythm and some sounds like some 80's songs.

Anyway, as for j-pop itself, i just love Namie Amuro <3, like i said once, she's the only one who doesn't make my ears bleed to death...

There's a ton of good japanese music(in fact i have a lot of unpopular japanese music in my hdd) ...but i guess j-pop is the most popular over there....

if you want to hear something different...there's good j-jazz, j-chillout, and l-electronic music...and even good j-rock that i listen everyday...

Answering to the OP, i had no idea what could be the worst j-song ever, i listened a lot when i was in HS...so i couldn't really tell...

but right now one came to my mind....strawbery pie by those minimoni girls or whatever....that song was a pain for my ears for real T_T

You should make a new thread of recommending good Japanese music that won't cause internal bleeding. The only good Japanese music I know is mostly from soundtracks of various animes and video games, but it is all breathtaking. I want to explore more styles within Japanese music such as Jazz, and Ambient Electronica, not that I am a Japanophile or anything, but listening to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack made me quite curious.

LOL, you do realise the people that make the pop tunes are pros that have been doing it for years? Have more talent then you could even dream of. Just try to do a pop song in 10 minutes. If you would listen pop music, maby you could understand it. But its not any easier to do then music in the puristic genres you might listen.

Okay, to be fair, my friend and I were both musicians in the past, but for us it was a ten minute affair. Make some catchy little rif and add some beat to it. Then add in some pop-ish words. Ten minutes tops for something that sounds like that. It was a simple game that we did to waste time, being trained in classical and jazz. What, it has 3 verses, hardly any different, doesn't change keys or meters, and uses the same 5-6 chords? Don't forget the same monotonous rhythm that could have been put together on a typical mixing/sampling console, either.

The sad truth is - 90% of the pop music industry has no talent and it's all show. I've even seen studio musicians acting like they are doing something nobody else can do... transposing a simple melody. Um - I learned than in High School. Now, there is real talent, to be sure, and I've heard musicians that you look at three times and still can't figure out how they puilled that off. But most of pop is well, it's show and looks and oh yeah - if you can sing a pre-made song, well that's good too. :)

Well your post said anyone, which is untrue. What you meant, any professional musician, is probably correct.

I'm always amused when people talk about pop music though. It's actually pretty impressive to create something that has enough market potential that you can manipulate such large numbers of people into buying it. American Idol is a great example of the power of marketing and how you can, relatively easily, create someone from nothing.

True - the music is dead-simple to make, and the lyrics, too - maybe half an hour. But the marketing and exploitation/image and all of that is pure genious. As I said, that's 90% of what goes into it - and that does take some real talent.

P.S. Take American Idol - seriously, I knew girls in high school that could sing better than any of them - just jaw-dropping good. And the singing competition is the only good part, too, because it showcases the real lack of quality inherent in the industry(and is darn funny, too). The other 90% of the show, though, is all about appearance and so on - real talent isn't a factor anymore. But if you flip it around, the process of turning a mediocre singer and musician into something passable as a pop star is amazing in terms of effort behind the scenes.

She's the bass player in the band. No supermodel, but she's absolutely amazing in person. Not very photogenic, but probably a 6 in RL and an 11 in personality(overall 8-9). Saw them the last time they were in Los Angeles a couple of months ago. Possibly the best female bass player in Japan at the moment.

The website's pictures are a couple of years old. She's amazing to watch - the others are just there. She's all over the stage, in her own funky world. And she's hilarious in person, too. If you are in Japan and can manage to see them, it's worth the trip(though bring earplugs - holy crud it was loud)

Not like the toad above. Ack. Make it go away!

P.S. Stance Punks also rocked - lame on CD, but great in person. The Emeralds were there, too and were exactly the same. Horrid mixing and sound on their CDs, but 10x better live. These also are good to catch if you are in Japan.

BTW, me and Miss Wong were doing the Zuiikin Dance, drunk, on a bridge on the way home a few nights ago.
I would pay money to see that... Okay, maybe like one Canadian dollar and nothing more.

How deep is YOUR heart? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KalO-G44UZM)

It seems to cut off early at the end, and that makes me sad because I need closure in my songs to keep them from haunting me at night.

Somebody might recognize this as the opening theme song for a recent anime. I have to admit I really like that version, but the PV is just...

Buddha Brand, forget the song title, but the classiest lyrics in the world:

"My shit is tight like shougakusei no pussy"

Has anyone noticed that in J-Pop videos, they tend to change the camera angle too often to actually see what the heck is going on dance-wise?

Does it make anyone else nauseated to watch videos edited like that?

And usually not even with the beat... just random angle-changes. Like they want to show off how many cameras they have or something.

...I'm also going to use PROPER ENGLISH SPELLING as there's just nothing more homosexual than that! ...

...Oh, here's something. Does that mean I'm a homosexual? xP Some on the forums have pointed out that I type in such a manner.

Painful to watch, but the song itself really isn't that bad.

So samurai ghosts are like piñatas? Tommy is funny.

I can't remember if I posted this before, but they've been playing this song on IMF a lot...

That guy is really... feminine when he talks. And his hello's crack me up. E-lo E-lo E-lo... kinda like Ashley Simpson.

Oh god... he's "singing" the chorus.

I'll be surprised if he has vocal chords in a few years.

I don't find a lot of japanese music I don't like. I guess uh... ill just say bomb-a-head. That song does rule though, very musical and there is some singing, but I recognize how gay it is.
