Maybe some of you haven't seen this, maybe you have. i heard about it when it happened, but i just watched it last night. almost died crying. the satire...it kills me. well anyways, if you havent watched it and would like to, heres the link:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-869183917758574879
there is also the speech with only President Bush's reaction, but i cant find it at the moment
So...just wondering what people think of this speech
Quick Note- I am NOT one of those kids who come on here and says, "i want to move to japan cause i hate my country. its so blah and so blah, etc."
I realize that America has done a lot for me, and I am greatful.
BUT, i will be one of the first to admit that America will not be #1 forever. It's not exactly being "unpatriotic", but more of taking a moment to rationally think about it. (funny note- my friend told me yesterday that he thinks america is on top because of technology help from aliens. he was dead serious.......we were on the topic about possible conspiracies...sp? and we were talking about the men on the moon, and how i thought it was B/S)
So yeah...heres a few things i thought
1)I don't know how this man can keep a straight face(in even his tv shows) and/or not get all sweaty or something
2)BIGGEST balls in america?
3) Its whoever allowed him to speak's fault. they shoulda known who he is...man...whoever allowed it musta been fired:frypan:
another funny note- i love that after he bashes the president like crazy, the president shakes his hand at the end, and gives him a "ya did good son" kind of look. he may even say something like "good job"...but i forgot
ah well, enough...if i need to fix anything ill edit later...
Quick Edit: Heres the Presidents reaction through Stephen Colbert's movie "Press Conference": http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2724944?pg=latest&htv=12

When was it ever, besides spending more on their military than the next 12 countries together?

yeah that was a mistake. no use editing.
i definitely didnt mean "#1" but more of...a major power in the world. does that work ok?

Of course. There is no denying it has great power in the world. It's also a fantastic country to live in, in many aspects.

They knew who he was and probably what he was going to do.. It was a roast for Bush. Previously in that meeting they had a Bush look alike right besides the real Bush and he was completely making fun of himself with the Bush look alike. Although Colbert did offend the most people. XD
Side note: Bush and his wife walked out after that.
Colbert rubbed as much as he could into as many faces as he could. A little rude, maybe, but he basically got up and said what so many people are thinking right now.
I give this thread another hour or so before people start talking about disrespect. Respect should be earned, not just thrown to anyone with a title.

*doesn't want to wait an hour*
yeah... it seems kind of stupid to bring colbert to a dinner to make fun of bush. if they'd watched his show at least once, they'd go "hmm... perhaps he'd be a smidge bit too out of place here..." i mean, look at Jon Stewart at the... umm... grammy's? i dunno. all i remember is that someone asked Jon to host something... and it was a fiasco because the people he made fun of were in the room. most people (especially stuck-up celebrities) don't like laughing at themselves. I thought Jon was hilarious because i watch his shows. the people who hired Jon and Colbert probably thought "oh, they're comedians, and they're popular. let us hire them without reviewing their particular style of comedy against the audience that will be at the dinner/social event/bore fest." perhaps i'm wrong here, i have no actual information that this is what happened, but it seems like it to me:meh:

I give this thread another never before people start talking about disrespect. You're preaching to the choir for the most part.
I watched some of it, but it seemed kind of forced at first. I'll watch the rest later since Stephen Colbert is such a funny guy.

I have a little more respect for Justice Scalia now. He knows how to take a joke.

I thought it was funny mainly because it's a roast and its Colbert. I mean, if you invite a man who basically does a show based on government in satire and not expect him to speak that way, then you don't know what a roast is or what he does. I didn't know the president left after that. Was it really because of THAT? I think it had to be something else. I mean 31-32%? He knows where he is in the eyes of the masses. Plus, the Jay Leno Bush look-a-like. Eh, I laughed.
btw I don't believe for a second they didn't know who he was. Even with botched intelligence reports, I know they can find Comedy Central.

It is the number one economy by quite a large margin.

Which begs the question: is this all some sort of elaborate scheme to achieve some hidden goal?

If there was any such goal, It failed. He is about his lowest ever. Besides, it was his people that got him [Colbert] on the roast bill. It's his last time in office, so I don't think it would matter anyway. He is just flowing with the stream...Though, Jeb might be running, and if all the negativity was displayed so candidly, yet so true, that might hurt his chances. I don't know how huge that might is. Depends on your take on the border, war in Iraq, etc.

Well, if Jeb runs, he won't win.
Just because people will remember the previous Bush, and go with Clinton. (Whom is supposed to run...oh god..)

I hope Hillary runs because she will basically give the Republicans the election. I don't know much about Jeb Bush to comment on him. Anyways I thought the impersonation was funny but bringing Colbert to the dinner...someone was really really dumb. It's not so much about respecting individuals at the party but about the image it portrays to the rest of the world. It makes the U.S. government look worse than it already does. Some humor is good, in fact necessary I think but there are limits.

Thing is, people all ready KNOW this stuff. It's not like it was swept under a carpet from the world. If you watch CNN, MSNBC, and even FOX (who was under the Colbert charm, you'd know. He just made a collage. It's a roast, you don't say good things and the time limit didn't help but complete it. Most times, a roast doesn't last that long for each person. Too late, now. :D

" Being a patriot no longer requires a cannon.
But it still takes balls."
based on this quote, Stephen COlbert is a true patriot
....Along with The Boss and the Big Boss from MGS....but....they're video game characters...:knockout:

what bugs me is people who equate patriotism to licking the current administration's sack. And voting for the guy who's already in there just because he's already in there.
patriotism is loving your CONTRY, from local culture, to the natural surroundings, to your neighbor..not the elected jackasses trying to milk the system. They're SUPPOSED to be working for the country... bleh.

Also, cutting off the administrations sack isn't patriotism.

The White House Press Corps or whatever the media group is called is the group that hired him to do the speech. Not the president or his administration. And the speech was absolutely hilarious in parts, not so much in others.

I listened to that part a couple of times, amplified. It is just random garble. Perhaps someone's mic was accidentally turned on during his speech/set.
Ahhh, I love that man Stephen Colbert = awesome
