I inserted my first post into an already-established thread along with an actual comment, so they couldn't make snide remarks about sending me to the intro thread. Hah! :stirthepo

Are there many people with Filipino heritage where you live? It's pretty much normal where I am. Please excuse my possible rudeness, but I'm curious, do you "live" here or are you just here for a year on exchange?

(quick note: jsut a heads up, some people dont take "gaijin" lightly here. as a normal joke, A ok. But as a normal way to refer to a foreigner...ダメ. 外国人(gaikokujin) is the preferred in any serious matter. im not scolding you, just giving the new comers a head up. :D)
Really your gonna be in japan for the rest of your life? why'd your parents decide to move? half japanese? just interested in your situation. also, where did you move from?
patrick797
05-30-2006, 11:14 AM
my dad's japanese, and my mom's here for about 20 or 30 years, so they decided to live here. im from philippines, BTW
If you're half-Japanese, you hardly qualify as 'gaijin', or rather, you're as gaijin as Beat Takeshi (http://www.debito.org/meijigakuin071705.html).
So did your family move to Chiba recently?
patrick797
05-30-2006, 11:20 AM
No. my father's a native resident here.
thankfully, no one kanchoes me yet. probably the closest ive ever got to it is when i'm in grade school (and i'm in Philippines then, so it happened right there.)
Coolness. I hope that you can get exempted from English classes (hah! yeah freaking right!) and put your time to good use. By the way, ever since Rika left, we've been looking for a new "insider view" on Japan. You are hereby nominated.

Yes! We need someone new to tell us that clothes are better left outside to collect the dust and dirt and grime of Tokyo!
(My roommate dried his bedding outside recently. He got so sick in a single night he had to go to the hospitle the next morning to get an anti-allergin. Sun kills the germs indeed ...)
... but seriously no one could ever replace Rika.

Unfortunately, im not exempted at english but am good at it. basically, what Azrael-sensei experienced ive experienced (kinda 30% of it).

Wow. at least were in a more quiet and cleaner place than Tokyo. hehe.
I hang my clothes outside, but I sure as hell don't live in Tokyo :D
I recall in fourth grade I tried to get myself exempted from spelling class. It didn't work. :(

:Sigh: im slow with these things......
:(
my host mom dries things outside...but...meh.
I dont know how, but my first host mom had to be the secret japanese master at washing clothes. i still take my more important clothes to her. It's amazing....simply amazing. she does hang them out, but i guess she does other stuff also. im gonna have to learn from her over the summer...definitely....

Actually our neighborhood is very clean and quiet as far as these things go. Really my comment was about the fact that in general the outside is pretty dirty and you don't even realize it.
It sucks that Rika is gone. Isn't school out soon though?
I assume she had all kinds of after-school academic activities to keep herself busy.

Off the record, Yesterday I saw a midle aged man wearing school girl uniform and an old guy singing and moving to Jay-z big' pimpimg, which he turned off as soon as saw me. I almost wet myself, damni me for not having my camera with me.

Wow.
totally unrelated, but i remember seeing a car while going home from school. those riding the car are evangelists or something. they have this loudspeaker on the car and are driving in the streets while saying (or shouting) standard evangelist stuff.
i wished i had a videocam then...(^-^)

Juuust Joking. (?P??P)
Well, the other day the black vans were going by my apartment yelling about Korea (South, actually!), so I got on my bike and chased them and got them on video. Oh, and coming back I found that the new Mormon church is offering free English lessons. For free! That's right, the cost is nothing ... just your soul. :D

Disneyland! At least that's what I was doing when you posted this, heh.
It's very fun. I got to ride Star Tours in Japanese, of course. I even learned the word for elephant. (Yay, Jungle Cruise!) It's actually amuzing how all of the rides are in Japanese, but in the parades any of the western character actors still speak English.
Next month Disney Shii! :hat:

Whenever i speak Japanese, (I stillcan't say i'm fluent but i can now go on conversations, just clarify what you say) I have a weird habit of ending sentences with 'ja' often.
Anybody else who has some quirks when speaking Japanese?
