LOL. Crowley wins the thread in a record one post.

As the article is concerned, though, I can't see any reason why that would be so. But, perhaps it has something to do with the same sort of biological satisfaction enduced by chemicals that men feel when we have sex. You would think, however, that that biological reaction would only occur when a woman climaxed, and not have anything whatsoever to do with absorbing semen--but who knows. Interesting study anyway.

Oh, just what we need-- another reason for guys to jack off.
*sigh*
We poor, poor girls.
----
On the serious side of things...
I think it makes sense. I mean, mood is controlled by hormones-- which is why we girls get pissy once a month when ours are out of whack-- so introduction of "feel good" hormones will make you "feel good."
I mean, seriously, when you get down to the hormone level, it's just about the same stuff as is in those happy pills.
I don't know if I find it controversial. *shrugs* Am I supposed to be offended? 'Cause... I'm not.

Yeah, I read about this about a year ago in Discover magazine, and found it really interesting.
Perhaps that's why gay men are filled with such... gaiety? I am guessing that the testosterone in the semen is absorbed quite expeditiously in gay men on account of all of the anal fissures which give the semen unobstructed and immediate access to the person's blood stream.
Thus concludes my attempt to make someone puke.
P.S. This makes the epithet "Joy Juice" even more poignant.
old new.....i don't think it's the semen or anything else...sex is like prozac...even better....everybody knows that....after it you're in good mood, let you feel 100X better with yourself and blablablabla....

small whoop. It's just an article sensationalizing a small change in the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). I guess the data may be significant statistically. But, on a scale from 0-around 63 (I think)...the difference in points really isn't that much. The only difference is that people are waivering between mild depression and normalcy.

um....that's eggs, not semen. Or whatever that other word is that they call fish semen.
I find it interesting that the only statistical numbers they gave actually proved nothing....
In a scale where, basically, bigger numbers equal more depressed:
Never used condoms: 8
Sometimes: 10.5
Always: 11.3
Chaste: 13.5
Usually: 15
Those numbers are all over the place. And in fact, the "always used condoms" number is closer to the "never used condoms" one than it is to the "usually used condoms" one. If this were really an accurate portrayal of semen as an antidepressant, wouldn't it make more sense in the order of "never, sometimes, usually, always, chaste?" Or at least, wouldn't it make sense if the "usually" and "always" were a little closer together, and "chaste" was nearly the same as "always?" It almost look like someone made the study, and then without looking at which number goes with which category, points and goes "ooh! Each group has a different number! I have been proven right! Mwahahahah!"
And to the people talking about drinking the stuff or gay people...that brings up a good point. I wonder if the study made any sort of distinction between vaginal, oral, or anal sex? That can make a really huge difference in how stuff is absorbed into the body, and if they didn't differentiate, I would argue that it makes their study essentially null and void.
Well, theoretically it could be assumed that those who never use them never feel the loss of sensation, those who always use them are accustomed to what they get. Those who sometimes use them know what it's like to make do and generally don't, while those who usually do but sometimes don't know what it's like without but usually end up having to make do with the circumstances because of their decision. Looking at it in that light, the numbers make a bit of sense as far as ordering goes.

But I think the numbers were just for "general state of mind," not specific sensation immediately after intercourse. The Beck Depression Inventory isn't geared towards assessing how someone feels after a specific point in their life, it's used to generally test whether you might have depression or not. I had to take it too when I went in for counselling.
The assumptions you made are kind of grasping at straws, I think. And they kind of imply that the body can become immune to the "antidepressant effect", e.g. "those who always use them are accustomed to what they get," which the article mentioned nothing about.
My argument was just that the article said, pretty straightforwardly, "semen makes you less depressed!" and then went on to present a set of statistics that did absolutely nothing towards proving that statement. Statistics should speak for themselves without guesswork and speculation as to why they fit in there.

thats def fake. well...not fake like he didnt do it....but like she knew it was gonna happen. they got a bunch of videos with stuff along the lines of that. for example, lifting up random womens skirts. the sad part is though...i could always be wrong (even though i said "def fake" :D ). japanese women may not do too much about it. dont want to make a scene or let people know that it happened to them. hurt their image i guess. sad
i still personally think it is fake.

True, but what's to say it doesn't play a larger role overall, no? The study is trying to cast it as semen being the antidepressant, but doesn't mean that the resulting data isn't an indicator of a flaw in said assumption.

I think we obviously need more testing, volunteers? ladies? its for science after all. This will need to be recorded for posterity as well.
