Ok, here's me, presenting something I just gotta say.
My little speech on Bands That Suck
I hate MTV. The only good thing there is the Andy Milonakis show.
If MTV promotes a band, I usually tend to hate that band's guts.
Here are my top THREE worst bands of the moment.

1.) Green Day
How ironic, that the band that sings "Don't wanna be an American idiot." is infact now, a bunch of American Idiots. They call themselves punk, but they're really just guys wearing mascara singing emo songs. I HATE emo!

Mainly I hate them becuase they are just so popular, and such a bad band. I can understand people who liked them from the first album, but anyone who likes them simply because of American idiot is well.... a blind follower of pop culture.

2.) My Chemical Romance
Yet another emo band. Yet this one has fifty times more wrist-slitting action that green Day. They're REALLY emo! And freakin' popular because everyone loves 'em at my school. Yeah. Popular + Emo = NOT VERY GOOD
Please people - stop whining and do something for a change! Why are they bad? Angsty, for one. And everyone in America has their new cd.

3.) Pink Floyd
Ok, give me a break on this one. I don't hate the band , I just hate how everyone I see -EVERYONE!- has that stupid prism shirt. Yeesh. So there were only two bands I hated. I do hate more (Every freakin' rap 'artist'- and I do mean that term very liberally - is just.. .. Rap just plain sucks. Period.)

That's my rant!

Yeah Black album was great and all (the most old era out of all the newer stuff).

But you got to admit it there was a definate style difference in the Black Album from ...And Justive For All.

Strange, they go from what is their best album ever (Master Of Puppets being close behind) to something complete different just like that.

It's preference and content. I've heard a few people I know that make music praise Coldplay, but their sound is too damp for me. Some others like "the Supersuckers", but it's too dry. We can't really percieve bad music on "facts", because there are almost none.

However, any "musician" who doens't write their material, or band that does not write together at least once in a while, is in my F-list. Another point is that the said "musican" or band cannot depend on anything else but their sound to attract an audience. Groups like the Polysics are an exception; I speak more of those who always prattle about "punk" "hard rocK" "style"; just....no, please.



I think one thing that annoys me most, though, is Bono (U2) and his stupid sunglasses.

Good music. There are hundreds of genres and subgenres out there. The ones I mentioned, along with the other various poseur metal genres are piss-poor excuses for music.

Although I prefer rock from the 60's-80's, classic hard rock, classic metal, jazz, and the various dance genres.

Indeed. The rock and metal in that period is my favorite. Can't stomach the new stuff at all.

Not many people seem to like jazz... At least not the other rock fans I talk to. They say it's too erratic and lacks a formula. But that's the beauty of it. Damn man... and I'm a sucker for the sax.

Dance music is fun. It's nice to listen to when cruising and can create some funny situations.

Now as for bands that suck... Metallica in the present, not past, Slipknot, Limp Biscuits (I know I mispelled it) and... well you get the picture.

Hmm. I'm fascinated with a lot of Japan's newer stuff, though. The Jindie stuff; some of it has me hooked. As for the U.S. or Europe for that matter, I've never really had a preference for what has been offered; some Jazz is nice (not smooth jazz, which makes me crash into telephone poles), as is the acoustic music...but almost never the more mainstream, or rock, for that matter. I know I'm just being relatively lazy and not looking, though.

Actually, I'd punch you for the Rush mention. And probably the Dio mention, too.

But I've never liked Guns 'n Roses, and Metallica has become a bad joke.

Emo sucks. Period. Ditto for its cousins screamo and hardcore.

As for popular stuff that sucks:

1. Coldplay is absolutely horrible. One of the most overhyped bands ever. And anyone who compares them to a band like Radiohead is a complete fucking moron.

I don't even like post-OK Computer Radiohead, but it's still better than Coldplay.

2. Queens of the Stone Age have become a huge disappointment. Their first, self-titled album (which has become increasingly difficult to find) was great, Krautrock-inspired desert rock. They've gone downhill since then. Plus, Josh Homme cannot sing on key when they play live.

There are many more I could list, but it would end up the length of a book.

I agree. As long as they don't change their music for the sole purpose of pleasing others, it's not selling out. I see no problem with making a profit off of what you love doing.

There are also some bands who, while not overrated in their own right, tend to have quite a number of overrated songs. I'm really quite sick of hearing "Freebird" or "Stairway to Heaven". Especially when I hear them a dozen times a day for various reasons.

I still hate that the first band put down was Green Day, I do have all of their albums, I like them a lot. Don't call them American Idiots, they changed their look to go with the times, what teens rockers are interested in, they could have done without the mascara but maybe its to hide their age a bit, they're in their early 30s now~ Don't hate on the American Idiot album, it good to know how they felt about the whole 9-11 and the current situation in America (or at least how Billie Joe felt since he wrote the songs~). Anyways thats all I have to say for now, can't think of what bands I hate off the top of my head, i kinda block them out.

I have little to no respect left for Ozzy. It's not the drugs that bother me. It's the disbanding and then reforming of Sabbath 10,000 times, the going on MTV, and the years of letting Sharon/Jack/Kelly fuck up the music industry and Ozzfest. I'm so sick of seeing good musicians get tossed out of Sabbath or pissed off to the point that they leave Ozzfest because of Sharon. What happened to Iron Maiden was the last straw. To be honest, Iron Maiden has and always had more talent than Ozzy or Sabbath. They lost plenty of other bands because of her as well. Rob Zombie, just to name another.

I believe I've also mentioned before that 90% or maybe even 95% of all emo, indie, pop, new punk, and new alt. sucks.

As for Pink Floyd, they're far from overrated. Why? Because they earned every true fan they have. Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here alone are enough for them to deserve all the fame they have. Not to mention Animals and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. In all fairness to the comparison, I think a lot of people make it because Coldplay tries to rip off Radiohead's style. There's no denying the similarities in style, it's just that Radiohead does it so much better.

As for bands like Greenday and Nirvana, well, you may think they're overhyped now, but they were extremely influential in the 90's. Greenday was never my thing, but they did influence a lot of bands of today.

Nirvana is undeniably one of the most influential bands, post 90's. That's not saying there weren't other great bands like Alice in Chains, etc, but Nirvana solidified grunge as a viable genre and introduced new sounds to the public. Ok, bands that suck. Lots of people will disagree with me on this one, but I am entitled to my own opinions.

Bob Dylan. No, it's not his voice. I like his voice; yes, from a technical standpoint it sucks, but I like it because he sucks honestly, not like today, where any moron can have a computer modify their voice until it's palatable to the ear. In fact, his voice adds character to his songs.

But, what I really don't like about Bob Dylan are his lyrics. Lots of people love his lyrics, but I find them way too vague to enjoy. I want my music to be approchable to some extent, but when I'd have to spend hours trying to dissect his lyrics just to get anything out of the song, that's going overboard to me. Mind you, I'm not exactly the type of person who is too interested in lyrics.

I'd tee off on all the lame Emo, Pop-Punk type crap, but that's too easy. Same goes for modern rappers. I think the thing I hate most about modern pop culture is goddamn bling...

And as for Green Day, they are not a terrible band, but they have absolutely nothing on even an average mainstream rock band from the 60s, 70s, or 80s, which is why I don't listen to them very much. I think they do all of that mascera crap just to pander to their main audience (teenagers who can't think for themselves).

Bands that sucked... how about Ratt? Great White? White Lion (except for the Transformers movie theme)? Like the whiney teen pop-punk/emo stuff of today, many and I do mean many hair bands of the 80's sucked some serious balls. Though there were occasionally good songs i.e. Poison's "Everyrose has it's thorn" (though only cuz it's the meaning of life :D ) and ahh... umm... White Snake's songs (only cuz the videos had Tawny Kitaen).

Oh and Pfalzer if you like Kanye and Common I'd give Mos Def and Talib Kweli's Blackstar album a shot. Some of the tracks have this good spoken word poetry vibe like Common's tracks.
