Does anyone else go to this website? For those who don't know, its a site where people can send in postcards with a secret on it. There are new postcards every Sunday. I think that I might want to send one in, but I always stop myself before I make a postcard.

~My favorite card from this week~

Shouldn't it be "realized"? Engrish?

Unknown
04-23-2006, 04:04 PM
It wounldn't really be engrish. I think the person was trying to write in present tense to show they are learning about how much they are like other people.
It makes sense to me either way.

yea, as long as you can understand it who cares

No no, Trina. Think of it as if that thought was running through your head RIGHT NOW, so you realise it, as opposed to "ago", when you realised it.

It's cute nonetheless though.

Surely that would be "I am realising". "I realise" is for things that you do regularly or continuously.

Blah, blah, it's not really important.

I've seen that site before and it is interesting...I think a lot of people can relate to some of the pictures even though they wouldn't admit it to anyone or even themselves.

Some of them make me wonder what could have happened to the people writing them, "In a way your suicide saved my life" is one I found pretty interesting.

Unknown
04-23-2006, 05:11 PM
I wonder then same thing loc.
Some of them are so emotional, it must feel great for someone to see their secret up on the website. Their secret is out, but no ones knows its them so others don't treat them differently.

04-23-2006, 05:14 PM
"I finally realize" is perfectly acceptable. It is the same as saying "I now realize."

Saying "I finally realized" would be telling about the past, specifically the moment you realized something. Saying "I am realizing" indicates that you are beginning to realize and have not yet fully realized something. To say "I finally realize" means that you have come to an epiphany, the pieces have fallen into place just now. Perfectly acceptable and very descriptive of the moment through the choice of tense.

this one actually intrigued me cause at times i feel that when I screw up, I suck at whatever I'm doing at the moment. *edit* but not in a suicidal, "im never gonna be good at anything" kind of way. Just in a way where its like "god I suck, better get better."

I don't know any female who cannot relate.

I've never known anyone who hasn't thought this once, twice, or three million times. Hell, I know it still crosses my mind.

Most women I know, this crosses their mind everyday (at least once a week).

My dad is sort of concerned about my brother and sister's and my future. :meh: I get $10 a week. I give $1 to a charity. $4 goes into the bank. The $5 I have left if for me to spend, but I am not allowed to get anything for myself with my parents money. They say, "You get an allowence so you can save up your own money to buy extra things." I guess it's to learn the importance of money and not to spend it all on candy. >_> We don't really have to do chores for the money, but that is an unspoken rule.

Anyways! Back on topic: Yes, these very cool!

Wow, that really sucks. When I wanted money when I was younger, I would just bug my parents until they gave it to me--although I was a good kid, so they usually gave it to me without my having to ask. ^_^

I am thankful... but I work for it. I wouldn't get any at all if I didn't force myself to get a job. (Motivation to go to Texas, money for Prom, summer clothes, and driving school. My dad decided he isn't paying for anything for me anymore.)

But... we're off topic.

Good friends, loving family, respectable talents.... I'm sorry, but beauty isn't everything folks. I wouldn't trade those sorts of things for beauty ANY day. Just because you're "beautiful" doesn't mean all your problems will go away. Some might, but you'll just get different problems. Many "beautiful" people can attest to that. And throwing things like that away in order to obtain beauty is one of the stupidest things I think anyone can do, yet I see it happening every day.

Heh, well of course you'd want to be pretty. But, at least for me there aren't many things in my life I'd sacrifice for beauty. Maybe my fish... Yeah okay ... anyone who wants to magically poof me into my ideal form, your prize shall be my lovely beta fish! Till then, I'll settle for thinking I'm pretty mostly but hating how I look in most pictures, or when I'm sitting or eating.

You know... I'm not sure it's possible for anybody to look good eating... unless you're really thinking about it.

In most casess a couple words is just as effective as a paragraph. A long post is not necessary to fyrther discussion.

Besides, the majority of people that complain about post content have never posted anything worth reading.

What's disruptive about being succinct?

Jay
04-24-2006, 06:14 AM
In fact, what's disruptive about 'I do' or other short replies? It just intones that you have nothing to say about the original post, so you're just ansering someone else's already-on-topic post.

adj. suc·cinct·er, suc·cinct·est

1. Characterized by clear, precise expression in few words; concise and terse: a succinct reply; a succinct style.
2. Archaic. Encircled as if by a girdle; girded.

This one made me sad, I hate when people kill bugs just because they are there. I went to an all girl school for two years, and everyone one such a baby when it came to bugs and spiders. They would talk about how stupid I was because I saved most of the bugs. They thought I couldn't hear them because I was always reading.

Some people are very scared of bugs, like me. :box: It is not like you can just decide not to be afraid. Sometimes you can't help it. *shrug* It's natural to want something you don't like and are afraid of gone or dead.

I understand that people just don't pick what to be scared of. It's ok for people to be scared of bugs, but the thing was they just didn't want it to gone. They always wanted to have the bug dead before I could have a chance to open a window to put it outside.

What do you do when they're all over your cupboards getting into your food, and simply taking away what they're after (which is now destroyed) doesn't work?

You have a cool SN, by the way.
Thank you. Yours is also very cool in a nice, monosyllabic sort of way.

This shouldnt be a phobia because phobias are irrational fears. Your cat really IS out to get you and you should be afraid. Just remember that youre like 20x its size and youll be fine.
Good point. But I have to sleep sometime. *twitch*

I'm not sure what I'd do in order to slake my thirst for power.

Powerade = best thing to drink to get energy back.

After heavy physical exercise, when I drink Powerade it makes me feel less like flopping and just vegging out than I do when I DON'T drink Powerade. :D

This one made me sad, I hate when people kill bugs just because they are there. I went to an all girl school for two years, and everyone one such a baby when it came to bugs and spiders. They would talk about how stupid I was because I saved most of the bugs. They thought I couldn't hear them because I was always reading.

i dont think this card is so simple. i dotn think its the childish, "haha i killed them", i think its the, "i controled this. i have the power to kill, i am god, i killed these things for no reason with no negative effect on me." kind of deeper disbelife in the creators own control over an aspect of existanc.

Thats what I have a problem with, not people acting like kids but the feeling that they are so much better then the bugs that they have a right to kill them if the wish. People think that they are so great that they can kill others just because they are smarter and have more control.

I guess I could step in and answer this. It's really quite a simple matter of diction. You have the suffix phobia, from the Greek word for fear. If you stick another word in front of this you create a new word meaning the fear of that particular base word.

For example, brontophobia is the fear of thunder. It's simply two Greek words wedged together. Sure it is possible for brontophobia to exist (being scared of thunder seems quite feasible) but just because the word can be made (in the case of say, barophobia) does not mean the disorder exists. And that is important to know; these are disorders. Being spooked because some thunder shook your house does not mean you have brontophobia. Being scared that Russia might nuke us back at the height of the Cold War would not constitute atomosophobia. Quitting your job to dig your fallout shelter and hiding in it everytime somebody's car backfires would.

PS: That website is amazing. I bookmarked it. Too bad there isn't a way to go back and read old entries.
