this doesnt really belong to the Entertainment section i feel it has more to do with politics mixing with animated films. recently i watched this anime called Zipang, i was surprised with the amount of right wing crap that appears on it.

americans portrayed as sneaky bastards when they fought the battle of Midway, as war mongers who attacked a ship without really ascertaining whether its a warship or not, japanese are never portrayed as the one who started the war but as peace loving ppl. japs being stereotyped as honorable individuals and being in the army is all cool.

i was like "wtf?" i wonder how many japanese ppl actually buy their own revisionist history?

Classy.

Probably about as many as there are Americans who buy our revisionist history.

Or were you actually at the battle of Midway?

I would stay away from shortening it to "japs" if you're trying to make a straight argument.
But thats the stereotype. In fact, most western anime characters are overly forward (girl = slutty, guy = asshole).

Everyone knows that Chinese revisionist history owns ALL of you.

I sense a popcorn fight. I'm actually considering buying a microwave just so I can make popcorn for the battles on this forum.

It is the follow up to the more popular Silent Service - And I guess you don't get the premise.

Zipang (manga) (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zipang_%28manga%29&redirect=no)

Zipang (Japanese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_language): ジパング, Jipangu) is a manga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manga) by Kaiji Kawaguchi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiji_Kawaguchi). It was first serialized in Kodansha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodansha)'s Weekly Morning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weekly_Morning) magazine in 2000 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000), and has continued to 21 volumes. Its popularity has extended to middle schoolers who enjoy history. Four volumes have been translated into English by Ralph McCarthy (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ralph_McCarthy&action=edit) for the Kodansha (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodansha) Bilingual Comics library (ISBN 477002908X (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Booksources&isbn=477002908X), ISBN 4770029098 (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Booksources&isbn=4770029098), ISBN 4770029101 (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Booksources&isbn=4770029101), ISBN 477002911X (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Booksources&isbn=477002911X)).

Synopsis

A Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Yukinami-class Aegis escort vessel, the Mirai (みらい, meaning "future"), while enroute on foreign dispatch is timewarped to the Pacific Ocean just prior to the Battle of Midway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Midway) of World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II). After rescuing an Imperial Japanese Navy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_Japanese_Navy) commissioned officer, Takumi Kusaka, the Mirai and its crew go on to affect the course of history itself.

I've been following this show too (Fansubs) and I think you have it a bit wrong. From what I've watched they never really showed the americans nor Japanese in a bad light really.

"as war mongers who attacked a ship without really ascertaining whether its a warship or not"

In reality, they wouldn't have identified it as warship or not. All they would have to do is see wether or not it was Japanese or not. If it was japanese they sank it, no questions asked.

"japanese are never portrayed as the one who started the war but as peace loving ppl. japs being stereotyped as honorable individuals and being in the army is all cool."

The crew the show focuses on is from the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force of present time. Not the Imperial Japanese Navy from 60 years ago. That why they kinda go on the "Oh we love peaceful, honorable people, but we'll fuck you up if you try hurting other people" thing.

Though I might be missing something in between the lines here. Just had to throw in my .02 cents since I know a little of the subject.

It's a variation of a Time Travel film - The Final Countdown (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Final_Countdown&redirect=no): ... In a different take on the idea, the manga and anime Zipang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zipang_%28manga%29) has a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan_Maritime_Self-Defense_Force) Yukinami-class Aegis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegis_combat_system) escort going back in time to just before the Battle of Midway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Midway).

It's not that right wing. - Sparky

i've been following the series till ep 14, getting ep 15 now. they tend to gloss over their history and focus on the good bits, it has a bit of a right wing slant. afterall right wing japanese are the ones that favour rewriting history to suit their agenda.
