View Full Version : Windows XP on Mac
Ever since Mac switched their processors to Intel, people were talking about the possibility of dual-booting OS X and Windows XP in Intel-Macs, and lo and behold, it is quite possible. http://wiki.onmac.net/index.php/Main_Page
As my Powerbook is showing its age, I am really thinking about getting an iMac then have the option to dual-boot. The only reason I'd need XP is to view certain media files (WMV3, for example) and gaming. Ever since I got my Powerbook, I've been out from computer gaming, and that's the only thing I miss from XP. I like OS X a lot, and happen to think the latest iMac is a helluva machine.
What do you guys think?
I think I'm afraid. :box:

My bro's thinking the same thing, as his powerbook is showing it's age, missing two keys, and the battery doesn't work very well.
I wonder how elegent (and safe) the XP Mac videocard drivers will be, though.
Well, seems that games like Half-Life 2 is running well on Mac mini dual core- and Mac mini's don't have a dedicated graphic card, but instead pulls the graphic power from the system memory (RAM).
Check out this link for the list of working softwares:

If I get an iMac, it will be the 20" one with ATi X1600 256mb graphic card, which should be more than adequate to handle the games I play.
I was thinking about a small form factor PC able to run Vista, if it was going to come out in 2006- however, it doesn't seem likely, and sounds like Vista may become a huge dud, given that a lot of people have no problems with XP, and they might as well push for XP 64 bit edition for now instead of pushing for Vista.

It would be cool to have a system running all 3 operating systems. And I've been thinking about getting a Mac.... Hmm...
I don't use Linux and don't give a damn about it. I believe I'd be perfectly happy with just OS X, but if I can play games with XP installed, that would be freakin' sweet.
However, it's interesting that Mac will be the only platform that can possibly install 3 OS's. Also, I think the Macbook/iMac happen to be one of the best machines at that price range.
