Ok ... I've sunk to a new low (haha) I just finished watching Sazuka (eps 1-26, subtitled) and have started on ... I don't even know if I should say this ... "He is My Master" *LOL* ... and have Bleach in the wings ... it's my frist major foray into the Anime ... and I'm getting a little confuzzled ...

hope Az or someone in Japan (or a Senpai who how more knowledge abt it then me) can help me out ...

WHAT DO ALL THE SUFFIXES mean?

oniican, oneecan, chan, tan, etc ...

I know Senpai is an older student or like "Professor" as is Sensi ...

but good gosh almighty ... Help me out before I go more insane then I already am.
Oye ... and no need to tell me how bad "He Is My Master is" ... it's just Bleach isn't here yet, and this is all I have to watch

Chan is what an adult or a teacher would use to refer to a student or someone younger. It is also used in situations of familiarity (family and friends). Kun would be the same thing but only for boys.

Oni-chan is older brother. Onee-chan is older sister. Imouto is younger sister. Otouto is younger brother. Okaa-san is mother, Otou-san is father... and depening on who is saying it and who's mother/father/brother/sister is being referred to, it can change. You can basically expect to have about three different words for each relation, one for your own (when talking to other people), one for someone elses, and one when you actually speak to your own.

Just do a search on the internet for japanese suffixes man.

I did a google on "Japanese suffixes" and it was more confusing.

Thank you for your answer ... I'll remember that abt Chan etc...if others can supply more suffixes ... I may start my own lil database on it.

The "correct" form is to say things like oniisan, but often children in their child-like ways will say oniichan and it just may stick.

I thought this was going to be about people that have Jr or Sr or III after their name...

...I was excited because I'm VII, the seventh.

Doesn't take much to excite you, huh?

Judging from you ava, you seem a bit excited yourself. I don't swing like that though.

My AV is merely a joyous assertion of how fabulous... er... something.. is.

Ok I hate you now for pointing out the shallow pointlessness of my feeble excuse for a life. Woe. Woe is me.
