I hope the script got a rewrite. Last I heard the demons of hell had been written out of the Doom story.

That's what I heard. Why make a DOOM movie when there are going to be no demons from hell?

There is such a thing as using a license to make some money, but that's just ridiculous. Using the name but not the content behind the name.

Still, I like the Rock, so he's cool... Just needs demon-fighting action.

From what I heard, scientists discovered the last (whatever)% of the human genome. From there, mutants take over the base. I think IGN had a trailer.

**edit**
opps, I see that the link above has the trailer too :(

There is a trailer you can access from the above link. If you watch the trailer, it certainly appears there are demons involved, or very very deformed and hideous mutants.

Some of them do look like the demons from the game. Bah I dunno anymore. x.x

I think the whole first-person perspective is going to be interesting. Might make for more heart-racing.

I have a sinking feeling it will be as good as "House of the Dead".

The first-person perspective will do very, very, well in theaters; almost like a simulation. I do think they need ot rewrite it with demons, rather than mutated humans, though; it really ruins the atmosphere. Aliens clone, or Resident Evil, whatever monster flick that has to do with science, it would be remiscent of it.

We need Demons.

Now.

Please god, no. Why can't they just leave games alone? What a stinking pile of wank that's going to be.

Plot reminds me of a RE game, but I have to agree that the first person aspect will be quite interesting to see.

No demons from hell tho... :(

Lone Marine + Mars + Hell + Demons + Asskicking = Good Doom movie.

And Hollywood couldn't get it right..mutants?!
The first-person perspective looks interesting so I'll probably check it out anyways but goddamit, if there's no demons, that's just wrong.

I have little faith in this movie. Game movies tend to suck, badly. That, and The Rock can't act, in the ring or out of it. Never was much of a Doom fan either.

I won't give it my final verdict until I see it though. Just not gunna go into the theatre expecting anything. At all.

i'm not going to see it expecting anything about doom

they should rename the movie, "the rock killing zombies" because it has nothing to do with doom

Oh the Rock, the most sucessful wrestler-turned-actor(that doesn't say much)

I think they should have cast someone who looks like the guy with the bad haircut from the status window in D2.

But, it seems that this will have nothing to do with Hell or demons. So, it'll be like Aliens: Marines go to a isolated base, their ride out will get destoryed, they fight the 'mutants' and try to survive, they find a way out, the Rock fights the big bad, then they blow up the base.

Umm... the Rock isn't the main character in the movie. Actually from what I've read he becomes a bad guy ala Sarge in Doom 3. I also think they explain the mutant thing as hell's way to corrupt humans thus allowing them to take over... again only speculation I've read about. So hopefully we get a little of demon action going. At least it does take place on Mars though.

And the Rock isn't that bad of an actor. I mean for the few movies he's been in he has the potential to be the next big action star. The Rundown was fun with all the blowing things up, Chirstopher Walken, and some good action scenes with the Rock. Scorpion King... well only good for Kelly Hu being a hottie and goofy one liners from the Rock made it kinda fun. And who can forget about Walking Ta.... wait I think we can all forget that one. Honestly though if he had better material to work with I think he could do pretty good as a movie star.

And Citizen, the Rock ain't all that bad in the ring. Sure he's no Benoit, Lyger, Guerrero, or old school Mutoh/Muta in there. However he's entertaining more often than not.

He's just an entertainer, and that's about it.

I think The Rock is a decent actor. Considering there is a lot of bad actors. I actually looking forward to Doom and The Rock other movie call the Gridiron Gang.

As far as wrestling goes (I used to love it when I was a kid, not anymore) The Rock ranks among the worst wrestlers, technically speaking, including Hulk Hogan.

Maybe it's because of his bad movies, but I can't see acting ability in him at all.

So, they are taking a game with relatively little plot, changing the plot so that it is completely different (no teleports? No Hell? No demons?), and naming it after a video game they just bastardized.

So in that regard it's like I, Robot, but with the Rock, and probably fewer in-movie advertisements.

Hollywood really needs to learn which games to leave alone. Actually, he also need to learn to leave games alone entirely. They won't be able to get it right. I mean, when was the last time you saw a good movie that was based on a video game?

StormShadow
08-26-2005, 10:18 PM
Amen to that brother! Leave video games alone. And comics! Why can't hollywood come up with an original idea with out copping out and stealing somebody elses, and then bastardizing it (I'm looking at you CATWOMAN. You belong in BATMAN) What the hell are these people being paid for exactly?

Yah technically he wasn't great but he was leagues above Hogan at his best. Certainly far better than alot of people the WWE has employed over the years and even now.

And some video game movies could have worked... too bad they have people who say they are big fans of the games but in actuality have no idea what the games are about or what made them good. I mean Uwe Boll needs to get bitch slapped for his crapfest movies... same with Paul Anderson (more for claiming that he came up with the script for AvP. It's just the first AvP comic series only altered to make it seem as his and then butchered on screen). At least Anderson's first game movie came out okay. Mortal Kombat was not great by any means but it was fun. Oh well I can hope Doom doesn't suck total ass.

Goldberg and Stone Cold make appearances in "The Longest Yard".

It was like a Comedy-Wrestling-Football dream come true for most people.

Oh, and stupid Nelly had to make an appearance.

"There's a level 5 quarantine at a remote scientific research station on Mars, and the only souls allowed in or out are the Rapid Response Tactical Squad - hardened Marines armed to the teeth. The research being done at Olduvai station has unwittingly opened a door, and a legion of nightmarish creatures of unknown origin now stalks the countless rooms and tunnels of the facility, killing what few people remain. Sealing off the portal to Earth, Sarge (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) and his team must use every weapon at their disposal to carry out their orders."

Um, hello? Besides the genome thing, (the original plot was close to this anyways), this is the *exact* plot of the original doom, except your crew has been killed off already.

There's portals, creatures of "unknown origin" (demons), etc. etc. and the first person view is awesome. stop bitching people, and if you wanted a good video game movie, you've got two options;

#1: make your own

#2: write to the people making the movies

It looks kick ass to me..atleast it is now on Mars, and it involves UAC(doom 3's big bad company)..and the plasma gun! But if their is no BFG 9000 or any model BFG for all that matters, then I will not be as thrilled

I'm not into the first person thing. Then again I don't like first person shooter games. (Except halo 2. Damn you, Halo 2!! *shakes fist*)

I think the Rock can't act. Sorry. He's nice to look at, but that's about it. I hate Vin Diesil (Sp?) but I think he would have been better. By about .05 %.

Honestly I don't know who I would have liked to see in this role. but that's just my opinion.

Edit: also, the slogan is "All hell breaks Loose" so I'm asusming they're keeping the demons.

Also.. The sets look like the newest game. (I don't remember but I think it's Doom 3. I only played it for a few minutes.)

IT KICKS ASS, I just went to see it with a few friends of mine.

*SPOILER WARNING*

I really liked the ending of the movie, i wasn't expecting "The Rock" to turn evil and turn crazy! but the real kick to the movie is the guy who has issues with what happened to him on mars when he was a kid is the one who turns out to be the hero and is the one who kills "The Rock" at the end. I suggest you all should go see it if you haven't done so already.

Well I just watched the trailer for it, and while I AM definitly going to watch it (DVD or theater) I'm in the middle right now. I really like the first person views, and the location/costumes/etc are REALLY good. It does look like the game. Especially in the begining when the scientist was running and got dragged down.

My dissapointment is that it doesn't look scary, it looks all-action. Doom 3 was scary as hell and this just looks like all-out action.

From what I hear, the movie be mediocre. It accomplishes it's objectives, which are pretty much just Action, Entertainment, and Noise. However I don't think the Rock is to blame. I think he's a good actor when he needs to be, and frankly, his recent interview on the Daily Show cements him as a decent guy in my book.
