I'm jumping in with my vote: Frogger for the PS2.
My childhood was destroyed. :D
hmmm... "The Fall"... even after a gazillion patches that shit doesn't run. I had high hopes for this game too.

Legend of Legaia
I mean, c'mon. It was just so incredibly dull. It was uninspired, had horrible gameplay, and was just flat-out horribly designed. The menus were nightmarishly poorly-designed, the graphics sucked, the game itself had a horrible balance of difficulty and simplness -- it was just terrible.
Xenogears

Okay, so it's a Genesis game no one's heard of. I can cope with that. But man, it was just awful. I mean, I played it through, many times, but it was just plain awful. The controls were sluggish and sloppy, it was easy to get stuck, progress was not self-explanatory, and it was bloody HARD to boot.
There are many, many more. But I don't have the time to explain why. These are my top three methinks. If we were just talking about over-rated games, I'd have a much more comprehensive list...

I think there was a thread on this somewhere earlier. I mentioned Altered Beast (Genesis) and Crossed Swords (NeoGeo) back then and I'll probably stick to that.

E.T. of course which was already mentioned. Let's see, I played some pretty bad generic games on the C64, Umm Can't even think of the names, but there were like 50 on one disk. A disk then only held what 320K if that much Probally much less.

Bulletproof, featuring 50cent. An 8 year old beat the game in a couple hours. It was just running around and hammering the punch button in the midle of a big cmmercial for 50 cent.

I mentioned Altered Beast (Genesis)
But... but it was a classic!
Battlecruiser 3000AD, now there was an atrocious mockery of a game.

I guess it was a classic when it first came out, and had I played it then I would have thought so too. But the first time I played it was at a friend's place many many years after it came out, and the controls were clunky and sound was hilariously bad by those standards.
I'm one of those young whippersnappers who's been spoiled by 3D graphics, good music, and complex play mechanics. :)

Did anyone actually play Daikatana? Wouldn't it be amusing if it was actually a really good game, but because a lot of "popular" sites said it stunk, noone gave it a try, except for that one guy who KNOWS. He knows.

Well here's my picks....
Final Fantasy XI
(Sorry Cobra but Id play through 10-2 ten times before even thinking about installing that crap game again, of course 10-2 wasn't exactly a good game either so I am going to count it to)
ET (mentioned before and I am not suprised)
Fable
Xenosaga II (yes I liked the first one and I have my reasons)
Halo 2 (thats right, I hated it, and I even traded it in for an RPG)
Ill add more later when I think of them :hat:

Fable
Fable wasn't dreadful. It was a long way off being a classic granted, and far too short, but it was still an entertaining action-rpg. It just suffered from over hyping prior to release really.

I will agree with you on the over hyping becuase FFXI was way over hyped with all the stuff that was sopposed to be in it but Fable was just so incredibly easy and boring that I just felt I was mearly walking around the world and messing around than actually playing a game. It just wasn't really fun anymore once you got the grand theft auto stuff out of your system and you get bored of killing people and doing stupid stuff. The game itself posed no challenges and felt like a waste of money...

Hey, if thats what you look for in a game then so be it ~.^

Star Ocean: The Second Story - I tried playing it again to give it a chance but the voice acting just kills it for me and they don't even give you the option to cut it off.
Xenosaga All of them - I will never except them as a part of the Xenogear Universe.

I've been pondering this for a while, and couldn't come to a conclusion... it had to be something I've played, 'cause, y'know, it's just lame to say "ET". Have yous played "ET"? I did.
Thing is, in this modern era, I don't play bad games.
Two disappointments come to mind:
Metal Arms. I got this for twenty bucks, used. I'd heard it was a real buried treasure. I slogged through the first few levels and then tossed it aside for (we'll call it for now) Game X. Ho-hum.
Then, after a long stint with Game X, I went back to it for completion's sake. After those first few levels, it's still kinda rough but the damn game rocks. Awesome. It needed a bit of polish time, if it had that it'd easily be one of the best games ever. Shame, kinda... what's there's still real good though. Play it.
Advance Wars 2. Again, used copy, twenty bucks. I'd just come off Fire Emblem, and, what's this? Another Intelligent Systems strategy game?
But whatever it was, it wasn't Fire Emblem. I couldn't get passed that... it was just so bland, and overly difficult. I did push myself to finish it off when I got my DS, prettied up real good, at least...
Then one day I found myself stuck in a mall for a few hours, waiting on someone else. Fifteen minutes in, I was bored out of my mind. I'd just polished off Kirby's Canvas Curse, and was bored of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
So, I tossed my blind faith in Nintendo upon it's roughest waters (what?) and bought a brand new copy of Advance Wars Dual Strike. It was a bit cheaper than usual, I told myself.
This time, I like it (This is "Game X"). I'm still playing it. Honest, put it down not an hour ago. It may not be as good as a Fire Emblem DS game coulda been (that's what Path of Radiance should have been), but it's a great game thick with content. The hard mode, I've discovered, has completely re-done maps. Doubled. There's still pages of maps I've not unlocked. I'll be sick of it again before I get it all, but there's always next time.
What was the topic?
Oh, right, Grand Theft Auto. Complete gutter tripe, loaded with ketchup.

holy crap a lot of you people don't know the definition of 'worst', and instead list a pile of games you were disappointed with but are overall ok-ish..
ET is a good nominee.
My mind goes to Superman 64... you know, the one were supes SWIMS (appearently) though the air, with 'kyptonite fog' eveywhere?
but but that's wiped away pretty quick by "aquanaught's holiday".. i could think of more with time, but these are truely HORRID games...
i can't believe some of the games mentioned here... erk... some of the ones that have been mentioned are greats, even if they're not to your taste.

Well, the problem with aiming for "worst" and not "personal spittoon" is that very few people have played every game ever made. You can say "ET", "Superman", "Daikatana", but you're just repeating what everyone's said before. Even if you have played them, it’s still been said.
Then there are games that no one (with an audience) has played; games that never see release, even games never intended to be seen by human eyes. I myself made a Tic-Tac-Toe game back in high school, but nobody recognizes it as the greatest Tic-Tac-Toe game ever made 'cause I was too humble to release it.
Finally, there’s terrible games that aren't recognized as terrible due to mass delirium or other such phenomena, like the Grand Theft Auto games, I mentioned. People actually think they're enjoying them.
Personal opinion, rather’n cold hard fact, is just much more entertaining.
…I mean, it had secret characters and AI with real pity (sometimes, it let you win), and it was all text based…

Anybody play the bouncer for the ps2? That game had to have the worst combat system I've ever seen, and that's saying alot. On top of that, the game offered roughly 25 minutes of gameplay in the story mode. (I'm not joking)
And then there was that Taz game for the SNES, that I swear was so poorly desinged, it was immposible to complete. And then I recall the terminator game for the nes.
And then that god damned South park FPS. That game was hideiously boring.

I enjoyed GTA3/VC/SA as mindless diversions that you can quickly load up and cause some mayhem you're bored... they don't fit my definition of 'terrible,' but certainly HIGHLY overrated.
Worst game I've played in recent memory would be The Warriors. I coudln't believe the ratings that stinker got. It was the second game I've ever rented and returned right away... the first of course being the absolute worst game I've ever played. And what game owns that special distinction and 'honor'? It was the NES Robocop... I can't quite remember which one (of three). All I remember was it was unbelievably frustrating, and controlled poorly enough for me to cause serious damage to one of my two NES controllers. And that's quite a feat, considering I was not very old at the time, and those controllers can take one hell of a beating.

I played the arcade version of RoboCop. It was pretty gay.

what'chu talkin' 'bout Willis? The Warriors is awesome. of course not everybody has to like it but what makes you say it's so bad? any particular reason??
