View Full Version : Google Talk
Just got this, seems like a pretty decent messenger, much smaller than the massive msn boxes and has no ads or anything, I like it :)

I think you need a gmail account to use it though but I got like 50 invitations for people so...send me a pm or something if you want it :p

Yea i got it like right when it came out... Its pretty simple so far. They really need a chat room feature. But the talk feature using your mic is really good. It has like no lag when i used it with my friend, better then ventrilo or teamspeak.

I think it's a neat idea, and I like they way they implemented it. I just don't have any friends using it, so I don't have a reason to get it right now. The same thing happened to me with Skype. I got it, and my friends all got it and we had fun with it. Not two weeks later did the fun die, and they all abandoned their accounts, so I got it for nothing. I'd love for them to get this and then I can kill my msn, yahoo and AIM.
Yeah I know what you mean Sedated, I'd love to get off msn, it annoys me to hell >_<;
Just see if I can get all those people to move though...

I have GTalk; it's great. Google is working on making it compatible with other services, such as AIM, MSN, YIM, and more. Also, they are going to add tons of features. Next up is probably file transfer.
Man, GTalk has a really, really good voice chat function. It transfers at great quality.
In case you are curious, I am qreepyboris at gmail dot com.

wait, nevermind, I've got your email. I sent you 3, you know, in case a friend wants one or something. Check they haven't been put in spam folder by hotmail, though.

Get Yahoo chat instead, guys. You can have a chat room with multiple people being able to talk, rather than just one on one conversations. Also, it's free... for more than 30 days.
SpikeSpiegel14096 is my name on it.

Every time I try to sign on to Google Talk I get an error message. A lot of us already have Yahoo so the switch should be easy.

Uh. You don't need either. What the hell does living in the US have to do with getting a gmail account?

To quote the google talk site:
"Get your invitation code
To sign up, enter your mobile phone number below. We'll send you a text message with an invitation code to create your account. If you've already received a code, skip to step two!"
And it says US Only in big bold letters.

If you get a g-mail invite from a friend you can get it outside the U.S. and without the mobile phone.
G-talk sounds neat, however if you're looking for an alternative to aim/msn/yahoo/irc (and can easily still use g-talk) without having to actually use aim/msn/yahoo/irc, then use what I use, a great program called, GAIM. It's free, and it's a collaberation project.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/gaim/
Sourceforge is an amazing group of people, I respect them a lot.

I hated GAIM and Trillian. I tried both, and they obliterated my preferences and overrode too much. They also lost functions from each program. In order to keep things how I like them, I'm forced to simply have each client. I still haven't downloaded Google's yet. I'd still love the day when all of my friends use one client :\. Pizza is yummy. This will be a big hit in Japan I think: http://wonderpizzausa.com/
