View Full Version : hm I lost my new cat.

It's a long story, but basically a friend of mine is having me take care of her cat because she's in the army and the cat needs a temporary place to stay.
He was terrorizing my cat and acting like a complete asshole and never did anything you asked him to do for a few days, but lately he was acting much better.
He's never been outdoors, but since he came to my apartment he's been increasingly curious about it. As I left for school yesterday morning, he bolted out the door, but after about a minute, he was coaxed back in. This night, he just completely bolted again when I opened the door and I have no idea where the fuck he went.
I'm worried about him because he's completely unfamiliar with not only being indoors, but also with my neighborhood. I hope someone finds him : (. I left food out for him, but he hasn't come back yet to eat it. I think that he ran so far that he got lost. I hope he doesn't get hit by a car.
If he doesn't come back today, I'm posting posters all over my neighborhood. I hope this will help. Should I do anything else? I'm pretty depressed over this. Even though he's been awful and scratched/bitten me, my friend, and picks on my own cat for absolutely no reason, he doesn't deserve to be freaked out and starving outside. He's a nice cat overall... he just hates being told what to do, or especially if you need him to move from somewhere.
I wish that my friend and his caretakers had bothered to train him -_-. This would have never happened. My kitten is 5 months old. I adopted him from the shelter and he was feral. As a result, he is extremely skiddish. He's just a baby, though. And I'm training him not to run away from everyone and to come out and stop hiding. There has already been progress. Also, he has NEVER been violent to anyone, even strangers with whom he's most afraid of. He knows he can't pull that shit with me. I usually have to balance between disciplining him just the right amount and acting as a loving surrogate parent.
Moral of this story- train your damn cats/pets when they're little so they don't have behavioral problems as they get older.
This is the same friend who insisted I take on her ferrets. I did take them on for about 4 months before I could put them in a good home. I was only supposed to take this cat on for a month before he would move to a more permanent home. Her animals always give me headaches.
I hope that Ashes/Gouki(StreetFighter Akuma) is safe. I kinda nicknamed him Gouki because it was easier than calling him "devilcat". Akuma is evil, but when you're not pissing him off too badly, when he's not shinakuma, he's just an ordinary guy looking for a good challenge. This describes Ashes. Ashes feels like being ShinAshes sometimes, but everyone forgives him because 5 minutes later he will be very nice and snuggly.

I would check animal shelters to see if he was picked up, and ask neighbours to keep a look out.
A good place to put flyers is in petstores and vet officies. (The ones in my area don't mind.)
many purely domestic cats are easily killed by wild cats. Shouldn't let those kinds of cats outside at all.

........
.................. you DO realize thats what cats do, right? Unless you have food in your hand, cats dont hear anything you say.
:D
if the cat realizes where its house is, it will constantly scratch on the door till someone lets it in. If its lost, its lost.

and dogs are nasty ass rags of shit
Cats are just awesome overall.
Dogs, well there are alot of varieties! From what I found, little ones are pretty dumb and easily excited, while the bigger ones are more calm and intelligent. My friend owns one of both and its hilarious watching the little one jumping all over the big one, and having it take it all in stride.

Speaking of cats.. Isn't today "Neko no Hi" (Cat Day) in Japan?
(I wonder where that came from..)

Yes I like dogs TONS better. However, I'm very familiar with cats. Of course I know what cats do. The thing is, that even though they don't take as easily to being trained, if you keep training them their behavior will be pretty good.
Like I said, my cat has NEVER been violent towards anyone yet. Violence in an animal is often a sign of an owner's neglect/abuse. He's still a kitten, however he was feral and usually those kinds of cats get pissed if any human corners them. My cat just usually runs away from me/everyone else. He has never gotten pissed and hissed/scratched/bitten. He probably knows he will be punished if he ever pulled that shit on anyone. Time will make him better.
I put food outside... .problem is, he has NEVER been outside! Nor has he been long in this neighborhood. Man, I wish he wasn't so stupid. I guess he's a cat, he doesn't know he did an incredibly idiotic thing. I will be depressed if he ends up dying/missing forever. I just wish he was safe.
Someday, when I can move into a house permanently, I will have more than one dog. Dogs are my favorite kind of pet. I love Weisse- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v326/MajesticArcanine/chibilizar10.jpg . But there is no way I can properly take care of a dog anytime soon.
I'm beginning the flyer process in a few mins.

At least you can teach a dog to fetch the paper, or your slippers. Or ANYTHING. A cat doesnt do anything and doesnt get trained to do what you say. A dog sits when you train him to sit.
Cats lick themselves, lounge around, and scratch up your furniture first chance they get.
Bite me, Garfield.

That's cause cats aren't born to be your bitch. You treat it right and it'll show you the affection you deserve. If you want a slave, fine get a nasty ass dog. But you know what, at least a cat knows where to put its shit, which isnt in the middle of the living room carpet like a dog. Cats know how to clean themselves, unlikea filthy ass dog. Cats can keep to themselves when youre busy and if you want em to play around they can do so in your lap. Dogs get everywhere at the most inconvenient times. And I'd be willing to sacrifice scratched up furniture as opposed to chunks of shit and piss everywhere in the house, filthy mudtracks everywhere and dogs intruding every part of your space.
So lick my balls Snoopy.

You can train a dog to go outside and do it somewhere specifically. Even better, you can walk it and have it do it somewhere else. A dog gets trained not to go in the house.
Cats shit in a sand box. Yippie.
Dogs can be trained not to go everywhere and be quiet. Dogs can play in your lap too and run around and do other stuff.
So eat my ass, Hecliff
(This isnt fair! You have more clever funny names to work with than I do, you still havent pulled Scooby, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Beethoven, Fido, and anything else you wanna pull. What do I got, Scratchy? Baaaaahhh.)
Seriously though, use them all, this is hilarious (not being disrespectful, I just think it's hilarious to hear "Eat me, Lassie!")

Are you talking to me? Are you specifically TRYING to make me more miserable than I already am? Like I don't feel bad enough LOSING my friends stupid cat. I'm getting very depressed about this. I don't care if people turn this thread into an argument about if they like dogs or cats better, but I don't like it if I'm patronized and told "oh well your cat just ran away, that's great and all... JUST BUY A NEW ONE."
Wow. I have a problem with you. :|.

Sorry for offending you, but ultimately you are either going to find the cat, buy a new one, or take no action in the direction of owning a cat.
You like cats, can't find the one that is MIA, so the logical thing to do is buy a new one.
Now if you find your old one, then that would be great. So I hope you find it. :)
edit: Perhaps I am too terse?

Dogs>Cats in many ways. Cats can be cool, too, though, I used to have a cat, who acted like a dog. He came when I called him, played like a dog, and was really fun. He was an outside cat, too. It was crazy. I loved that cat, when I was 3 I took his grandmother in, then she birthed the litter his mum was in, and she birthed his litter, it was great. I used to be a CATS FUCKING ROCK person. Now I'm all about the dogs. My old dog, he thought he was human, he'd sit on chairs, and was just generally chill. He copied me in nearly every way, he was basically just a really lazy dog. He was so smart though, and when we moved, he adapted to our new house's rules within about a week. It was a HUGE change, he went from an inside dog to an outside dog, from a couch dog to a floor dog, from a single dog to sharing the backyard with another dog.
Eh, I get in staring contests with cats, and I always win :D
I want a tabby, and a west ontario terrier XD

You mean that's an actual day?
Wow, the first time I saw that, I just thought it was something cutesy that the calendar company did because I bought a kitten-themed calendar.
That's awesome.

My cat greets me at the door everyday when I come home from work, comes when I call her and knows "sit" and "kisses." Cats can be trained. You just have to be patient and consistent. Now, they will ignore you if they choose. Performance can be spotty.
Dogs and cats are both great. Different, but great.
So eat my ass, Hecliff
Both of you knock it off.

yeah. I kinda figured you were laughing at nerd and not me. I guess I don't always understand internet sarcasm :p. I don't really know who established trolls are around here. I usually don't take offense to most internet trashtalk, but I was offended by that comment. At least until he reworded it.
So is it a problem that you lost your friend's cat in relation to that they'll want them back after they return from vacation or some such, or were you trying to find a new home for his/her cat?
Of course maybe the problem is confined to you having a missing cat. Any luck finding him?

funny you mention it now!
ASHES CAME BACK!!!
or rather, MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR found him. He was wandering outside for the last couple days. Little bastard. At least he's proved that not only he can be trusted to stay in the neighborhood. I think he liked being outside. He's been having fights with the neighborhood cats. He will be confined indoors till I can order his tag. My kitten is getting his tag by the beginning of next week.

^ yes, you know, you're right. I should take him to the vet. I have an appt for my kitten scheduled, but I know for a fact he's had all his shots. I guess I need to find out what kind of stuff this tomcat has had/not had. At least he's neutered XD.
