I got a nice camera on sale a while back, and started making some videos ... I have crappy Windows Movie Maker as my editor, but if you'd like to see what a yakiniku party in Japan looks like, click here.

I actualy like WMM. I have the Sony Vegas suite, and Ulead suite, but I tend to use WMM the most. It has all the main features I need, and is simple and straightforward

I completely forgot you were canadian until you had begun to talk 'aboot' the emperor and royalty and all that with that one Japanese teacher lady.
The cat thing was pretty weird, as were the bunch of Japanese guys standing around that computer. I don't feel like watching it again, but what was it that they were waiting to open?
Lol, Rock On.

That was entertaining stuff. You could start your own videoblog and load videos of your travels in a chronological order.
Ahh, Shinbashi. Why do you think I said Ikebuuuukuroooooo?
The guys were waiting for Don Quixote, a giant electronics/cosplay store to open. Although half of them were waiting for the pachinko parlour next door to open.
And I do NOT say 'Aboot'! Fuck you, eh! :-p
And isn't Adobe Premiere the absolute damn best video editing suite?

nah, you said 'aboat' just like all the other canadians i've ever heard :) but those were definately entertaining, in a weird mundane kind way. i think its because i've never been there and am wanting to go there. are you going to show us some more, eh? :D

It;s either Premiere or Final Cut, though they have similarities and differences. Windows Movie maker sucks as in terms of getting files off of camcorder and editing, in my opinion.

Yeah. It was on the plane trip, when he was introducing the woman in the planeseat beside him. I'm thinking somewhere between 9 & 10 minutes into the second video. ;)

Rather boring compared to the first one. And it may be blurry pixels but if you want the 200MB WMV you can set up a transfer :-p haha
Ikebuuukuroooo! Actually, Rika, I've been showing 'Shinbashi' in elementary schools here to much rioting.

I went around New Year's, so it was pretty expensive, about 60 000 round trip with Dragon Air (which was an ok airline) from Narita. This time I'm going in mid-March for about 30 000 round trip.

your second day was my birthday ^^
kinda familiar HK...we also rode on the second deck on the very first seat.
your change for two reminded me of one time, we wanted to get one-yuan bills by exchanging a five-yuan bill by buying an ice cream... We got to the ice cream parlor, and I just randomly picked one...it turned out to be five bucks! o.o
I noticed a lot of your Japanese's been translated literally... some things don't flow very well.

I think it may be the outside noise at that time. I know china's crazy about initial d for something reason.
it's funny, cuz the first time I saw it, I cried out "tou mo ji D!" and my cousins looked at me funny, and they said "you mean "tou ji mou D?" Cuz in Japanese, it's "kashira (tou) mo ji D", and in Chinese, it's the complete opposite.
but the Initial D anime they're showing on TV is quite hideous. it's not quite animated, but it's CG'ed. I've never actually seen the real D anime, so I don't know...is it suppose to be CG'ed?

It's cel shaded, at least 4th stage is. 1st stage was primitive compared to second, which pales in comparison to 3rd Stage, which is eclipsed by 4th stage.

Notice the beginning where it was just nasty blocky 1990's cgi, to 2nd stage where they made the CGI better, along with the anime (no more slam dunk animation!). They then went to 3rd Stage, which had much more quality in animation, and even the CGI backgrounds were removed, mixing in the CGI with the animated backgrounds and characters.
4th Stage increased the quality by cel shading everything, making seamless transition between cars and everything else.
Fan of the Initial D music, I guess. As for the anime, I only saw about half of First Stage before I just forgot about it (hey! I'm busy!). But I quite like that kind of music.
And yeah, I know the Japanese is very literal and doesn't flow well. That's because a)I'm translating it myself so I KNOW it'll have tons of mistakes b)I HATE using katakana words, if I can use any clunky jukugo compound I will rather than resort to the damned stuff and c)What I think in Japanese on how to translate what I just said in English is so long that it wouldn't fit in the subtitle ^^

b) I wasn't talking about katakana words... more like, one of your shorter sentences. like "I'm in trouble", I would have said やばいかな, instead of 困るかな.
c) try to think in Japanese? don't think you're translating, but just telling your japanese friend the same thing. maybe that'll help it flow better.
b) I think I had used やばいかな earlier and didn't want to repeat myself. I'm also translating for my Japanese friends/colleagues who have zero English and thus it doesn't matter if it's a little off (speaking as someone who loves pointing out the difference in spoken dialogue versus the subtitle in movies).
c) Thinking in Japanese assists B. I had considered doing all my commentary in Japanese but I have a larger English-speaking audience ...

I could be wrong, but I seriously thought (it's been a day or two since I watched it now, so I could be wrong) I heard, "Aboot." And I could tell he was Canadian from the first time I heard him talk (and not just because he has a Canadian flag in his signature. ;))--but that could be because one of my better friends is from Toronto.
羽之助 the song that's the lead-in to the second and third video (and maybe the first, can't remember), where is that from? I wouldn't ask, but it's eerily similar to Shenmue (the greatest video game ever)'s theme song for the second game (that takes place in HK).
It's called 'Sirius', from a CD of erhue music that my friend lent me. Unknown if it is a ripoff of some game :-D

the graduation ceremony is kinda touching...and it seems a great event...i was impressed by some student wearing traditional clothes... it's something very unusual(for me)...anyway..
the video itself owns dude! oh i think the japanese teacher is cute, i mean, the way how she talks in english to you lol...

Is it just me, or do you have a "camera voice" in japanese, that is more emotion-filled than how the people you film usually speak?
Intense
05-29-2006, 03:45 AM
i reckognized one of the songs in that. It's the theme song they used in the movie "Babe", the pig movie. Odd choice of song for a graduation ceremoney but it worked :D
I probably do have a "camera voice". Gotta imitate the bloody announcers, don't I.
Anyway, I'm going to a school that's so far out there are no bus stops nearby and the total school population is 37 kids. I'm only going there about three, maybe four times for the whole year, so I thought I'd do something special. I'm recording the English classes and will eventually make a CD for the parents and teachers. I have a little bit of footage, so I made a "preview" video, just so they know I'm actually doing something constructive with the video I'm taking of their kids.
I do have other shots, like the car ride to the school and bursting out of the forest into a hidden valley of rice fields, but I'll save that for when I'm no longer going to that school.
Enjoy.
